CIPL and HPCL Controversy: The country is currently facing a crisis. The government has asked to reduce the use of petrol and diesel. Fuel prices have not increased, but companies say that they are incurring a loss of Rs 1700 crore every day. Meanwhile, the Consortium of Indian Petroleum Dealers (CIPD), an organization of petrol dealers across the country, has made serious allegations against Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).

CIPD says that HPCL officials are forcing dealers across the country to sell power petrol i.e. premium petrol to customers instead of normal petrol. The big thing is that there is a difference of Rs 9 per liter between the two types of petrol.

Not only this, CIPD has also accused HPCL that unless the dealers agree to sell premium petrol, they will not get stock orders. The organization says that Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) do not do this, this is happening only in HPCL.

CIPD demands immediate forced closure

The organization has written a letter to the Director Marketing of HPCL on May 13 demanding immediate closure of this forced operation and has said that it may be a violation of the Essential Commodities Act 1955.

What is the difference between normal petrol and premium petrol?

Let us tell you that the biggest difference between normal and premium petrol is the octane rating and the additives added to them. Octane rating indicates how stably the fuel burns inside the engine. The octane rating of ordinary petrol in India is usually 91. This is enough for most standard cars and two-wheelers.

Premium petrol has an octane rating of 95 or higher, such as IOCL’s XP95 or XP100. The higher octane rating means that the fuel will not burn prematurely in the engine, reducing the problem of ‘engine knocking’.
