UPI Payment: The world is moving rapidly towards digitalization. As the world is progressing, the ways of working are changing. UPI payment without internet

However, being based on internet access, sometimes it becomes difficult to make online payment due to poor network, lack of mobile data or using a basic phone. To solve this problem, National Payments Corporation of India has started UPI payment offline through USSD-based service. This option works without internet and has simple text menus that anyone can follow. By simply dialing a short code from your registered mobile number, you can send money even in low network areas.

What is offline UPI payment?

Offline UPI payment is a feature that allows users to conduct UPI transactions without any internet access or WiFi. It works through a USSD service, which can be accessed by dialing *99# from any mobile number linked to the bank account. To start using offline UPI payment, you have to activate it on your registered mobile number. For this follow these steps-

• First of all dial *99# from your phone.
• Select your preferred language.
• Enter the IFSC code of your bank.
• Select the bank account you want to link.
• Enter the last six digits of your debit card.
• Enter debit card expiry date.
• After verification, offline UPI payment will be enabled.
• Once activated, you can use this USSD-based service anytime without internet access.

How to make offline UPI payment?

After activation, it is easy to send money through offline UPI payment-

• Dial *99# from your registered mobile number.
• Select option ‘1’ to send money.
• Enter the bank account details along with the recipient’s UPI ID, mobile number, or IFSC.
• Enter amount (up to Rs 5,000).
• Enter your UPI PIN to complete the payment.
• The transaction will be processed instantly using the USSD system.

The National Payments Corporation of India has announced that now Person to Person ‘Collect Request’ or ‘Bridge Transaction’ feature will be closed from 1 October 2025 i.e. from today. Apps like Phone Pay, Google Pay and Paytm will no longer allow users to send payment requests directly to friends, relatives or their experts.

What is UPI ‘Collect request’ feature

Actually, with the help of this feature, one person could send a payment request to another user by entering UPI ID. For example, if you want to take money from your friend, then you could send them a request from your UPI app. After this, your friend would accept that request and put his pean, the money would be transferred to your account. This feature was very convenient, but at the same time it was becoming dangerous over time. Let’s know how.

Why was this feature dangerous

Actually, even though this facility was made for ease, with the help of this, the fraudsters were benefiting a lot. Scammers used to send fake requests to unknown users and implicate them to pay. Although earlier, the National Payments Corporation of India had reduced the request limit to ₹ 2000 to prevent misuse, but even then the fraud continued. Now after this, this feature is being closed forever to stop this fraud.

Traders will still have access

The important thing is that this feature will not be completely eliminated. Marchants like IRCTC, Flipkart, Amazon or Netflix will be able to send payment requests to customers for ticket booking, shopping or subscription. This feature is being banned only for Person to Person Transaction.

How to affect users

After the closure of this feature, from 1 October 2025, you cannot ask for money from friends or relatives using UPI Collect request. To transfer the money, you have to use the mobile number directly from the QR code, the receiver’s UPI ID, or the mobile number linked to UPI.

This feature is being closed for the purpose of increasing the security of digital payment. With this, now after this step, users will get relief from the scam. Users are advised to always check the payment request thoroughly before transferring money and must find out where the money is going.

At present, UPI users will be able to link only savings account or or overdraft account to UPI. Payment can be made only through them. Some Rupay Credit Card has also been linked to UPI, but their number is less. Now with the new rule, customers will be able to withdraw money from gold loan and personal loan online without going to the bank.

NPCI decided some rules

The current rules of UPI have the facility of P2M money transfer, but with the implementation of the new rule, P2P will be able to do P2PM transactions. You will be able to withdraw cash. However, NPCI has also fixed some rules for this, such as users will be able to pay up to Rs 1 lakh in a day. Also, the limit to withdraw cash in a day is only Rs 10000. Apart from this, the limit of P2P Daily Transaction has also been increased to 20.

With this, the bank will also decide which payment you will be able to make through UPI. Suppose you have taken a personal loan, then allow loan money for the bank hospital bill or school or college fees. This facility will be especially beneficial for small traders who take a business loan of up to Rs 2-3 lakh and every time they will not have to cut the bank repeated rounds to pay.
