There was panic at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Saturday (28 March) morning when IndiGo flight 6E 579 declared full emergency. One engine of this Boeing 737-800 aircraft coming from Visakhapatnam (VTZ) to Delhi (DEL) had failed. However, due to the wisdom of the pilot and the promptness of the airport administration, a major accident was averted.

Due to aircraft engine failure, full emergency was declared on runway 28. At 10:39 am the plane declared full emergency. At that time, there were a total of 161 people on board the plane and the ETA i.e. the estimated time of landing was 10:52 AM. There was about 6.4 hours of fuel in the plane, which means there was no shortage of fuel.

Ambulance and medical teams standby
At the time of landing, fire engines and ambulances were deployed on the runway so that any untoward situation could be dealt with. As soon as full emergency was declared, crash fire rescue vehicles were deployed along the runway at Delhi Airport. Ambulances and medical teams were also kept on standby. There were no dangerous goods of any kind in the plane which was a reason for great relief.

According to preliminary information, the call was made due to a technical fault in the flight. All agencies were put on alert. IndiGo’s technical team is now conducting a thorough inspection of the aircraft to find out how serious the fault was.

Dangerous single engine landing
The Boeing 737-800 is a twin-engine aircraft. The pilot landed the plane on a single engine. Its training is given to every commercial pilot but this process is very sensitive and that is why in such a situation, full emergency protocol is activated. All passengers and crew members are said to be safe.

DGCA’s statement on Indigo incident
On Saturday, flight 6E-579 (Vishakhapatnam-Delhi) of IndiGo’s wet leased B737-800 aircraft (TCCON) suffered an uncontrolled engine failure. Engine No. 1 failed after severe vibration. The aircraft is fitted with a CFM-56 engine. An emergency was declared and the plane landed safely. The aircraft has been grounded for inspection and repair. Further investigation is being conducted by DAS (NR).

The Indian Navy has started a search and rescue operation to save the Iranian frigate IRIS Dena which sank in the Indian Ocean. According to a Navy statement, the distress message from IRIS Dena was received by the Colombo-based Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) on the morning of March 4, after which the operation was launched. America has attacked Iranian warship with submarine.

The Iranian frigate is 20 nautical miles west of Galle, which falls under Sri Lanka’s search and rescue zone. As soon as the information was received, the Indian Navy immediately started the rescue operation.

Indian maritime patrol aircraft involved in operation
According to the Navy, a long range maritime patrol aircraft has been deployed at 10 am on March 4 to assist the search operations already underway under Sri Lanka and a second aircraft has been kept on standby to deal with any emergency. The training ship INS Tarangini, deployed in the nearby area, received orders for assistance and reached the search area by 4 pm the same day.

Survey ship INS Ikshak also left Kochi to support the operation. The ship is still searching for missing people and acting as humanitarian aid to those trapped in the shipwreck

America had attacked
Officials of the Indian Navy and Sri Lanka are working in mutual coordination. The incident occurred on March 4 when a US submarine targeted an Iranian frigate with torpedoes in international waters about 40 nautical miles off Galle, off the southern coast of Sri Lanka. The ship sent a distress message in the morning informing about the explosion, but it had sunk before Sri Lankan rescue ships could reach the spot. The attack took place about an hour away from the main naval base of Galle.
.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed the action at the Pentagon, calling it a quiet death achieved by torpedoes. He said that this is an important expansion of the operations started by the joint attack on Iran by America and Israel.

After the increase in aircraft related accidents and incidents in the country in recent times, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has come into action. On Tuesday (24 February 2026), DGCA held a high-level meeting with non-scheduled operators providing charter flights, private jets and helicopter services. After the meeting, DGCA has announced to implement strict rules.

DGCA says that after reviewing the data of accidents of the last 10 years, it came to light that in many cases, standard operating procedures were not followed properly and there was negligence in flight planning and there were shortcomings in pilot training. Due to these reasons the risk in charter and private flights increased. Now the regulator has made it clear that no compromise on security will be tolerated.

DGCA made these changes
DGCA has bluntly said that from now on security will be paramount in every situation whether it is VIP movement or commercial aircraft. The decision of the pilot in command during the flight will be considered final. If the pilot diverts or cancels the flight due to bad weather or technical reasons, then no pressure can be put on him.

Under the new rules, charter and private flight operators will have to make public the age of the aircraft, maintenance records and experience of the pilot on their website. DGCA will also release the safety ranking of all non-scheduled operators, so that passengers can know how well which operator meets the safety standards.

‘Pilot’s license may be suspended’
DGCA will increase random checking of cockpit voice recorder, flight data and technical logs. If the rules are broken, not only the pilot but also the management of the operator will be held responsible. A pilot’s license can be suspended for breaking flight duty time limits or attempting to land below safety standards. Along with being fined, the operator will also be in danger of having its license or permit cancelled.

Special monitoring will be done on the maintenance of old aircraft and aircraft whose ownership has changed. Operators who have their own maintenance facilities will also be investigated. If they do not meet the standards, they will have to get maintenance done from a recognized agency. According to DGCA, special safety audit of non-scheduled operators will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will be completed in the beginning of March and the second phase after that. Through this, efforts are being made to strengthen the safety culture in the entire sector.

A case of crash of an air ambulance while going from Ranchi to Delhi was reported on Monday (23 February) near Simaria in Chatra, Jharkhand. All 7 people on board the plane have died. Officials related to the case said that there was no black box in the plane, due to which there could be a lot of difficulties in finding out the reasons for the incident.

According to Hindustan Times report, as per civil aviation rules, cockpit voice recorder (CVR) or flight data recorder (FDR) are not mandatory for aircraft weighing less than 5,700 kg. An expert said that the cause of the accident will be investigated based on communication with air traffic control, analysis of debris and statements of eyewitnesses.

These questions are arising
According to an official, one of the aspects that investigators are probing is whether the aircraft C90 King Air deviated from its planned route due to a faulty weather radar installed on the aircraft. Two flights operated by Air India and IndiGo had earlier faced bad weather on the same route and had appealed to change their routes to avoid it.

what the officials told
The Indigo flight had requested to go to the left side, while the crashed plane had requested to go to the right side. An official said that it is being investigated whether the weather radar of the crashed plane was working properly or not. It has to be found out whether the crew misunderstood the situation as seen on the radar or there was some fault in the radar itself.

When and from whom was this aircraft purchased
The aircraft, operated by Delhi-based Redbird Airways Private Limited, was on a medical evacuation flight from Ranchi to Delhi. The people on board the plane included patient Sanjay Kumar (41), a doctor, a paramedic, two attendants and two pilots. Pilot in Command Vivek Vikas Bhagat had approximately 1400 hours of flying experience and First Officer Swarajdeep Singh had approximately 450 hours of flying experience. This plane, built in 1987, was purchased by Redbird Airways in 2022 from Orient Flying School, which had purchased it in 2001.

India has lost 2 indigenous Tejas MK1 fighter jets in accidents. According to media reports, the Air Force may soon add two new similar jets to the fleet of Tejas MK1 fighter aircraft or replace it with the advanced fighter jet Tejas MK1A.

Tejas MK1A
Tejas MK1A is much more advanced than Tejas MK1. Tejas MK1A is equipped with high-tech AESA radar. It also has electronic warfare suits and indigenous weapons. It will have onboard oxygen generation system and the ability to fill fuel in the air itself during flight. According to media reports, only Tejas MK1 is being upgraded until Tejas MK1A enters the Air Force fleet. Electronic warfare, software defined radio and SATCOM are being installed in it.

How powerful is this jet
Software-defined radio in this fighter jet is a flexible communications system that uses software to process, modulate and decode radio signals instead of traditional fixed-function hardware. It enables secure, high-speed and interoperable voice/data communications over multiple frequencies and waveforms in real time.

SATCOM, or Satellite Communications, refers to the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and Earth-orbiting satellites to simplify, amplify, and relay radio signals for voice, data, and video transmission between distant locations. It serves as an essential backbone for global telecommunications, providing connectivity in remote areas, aviation, maritime and disaster relief situations.

Let us tell you that there are 16 Tejas MK1 FOC aircraft in the Second Squadron of the Indian Air Force. These jets are equipped with old ELM-2032 radar and avionics. However, in matters of air defence, they fulfill operational requirements and training missions.

How high tech is Tejas MK1A compared to MK1?
Tejas MK1 is not as high-tech as Tejas MK1A. Tejas MK1A has advanced electronic warfare (EW) system, pod based jamming capability and improved avionics architecture. The Air Force has purchased 73 Tejas MK1A single-seater and 10 two-seater fighters. Recently, the Air Force has signed an agreement to purchase 97 more single-seater Tejas MK1A and its entire consignment is likely to be received by the end of 2032.

On Wednesday (January 28), a bird collided with an IndiGo plane coming from Goa towards Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (Shamshabad) during landing. There were 211 passengers on board the plane during this incident. The pilot immediately understood the situation and landed the plane safely. Due to this, all the passengers came out safely without any injury.

The Indigo plane taking off from Goa was landing towards the runway of Shamshabad airport when a bird collided with it. The pilot immediately informed the Airport Operations Control Centre. After the safe landing of the aircraft, the airside safety team inspected the runway. During investigation, no remains or parts of the bird were found on the runway, following which normal flight operations continued at the airport.

The pilot handled the situation immediately
According to aircraft experts, the pilot immediately handled the situation with a calm mind as soon as he realized the collision with the bird, due to which a major danger was averted. ATC officials along with the security team conducted a thorough inspection of the aircraft. All parts including engine, wings, nose cone were examined in detail. However, no major damage was reported.

Bird strike incidents increased
Incidents of bird strikes have increased in India in recent months. Such incidents were recorded at many airports like Bhopal, Nagpur, Patna, in which emergency landing had to be done in some cases. Two more incidents were reported at Shamshabad Airport on the same day due to engine failure and other technical problems. All these incidents indicate the need to pay more attention to aviation security.

In this incident, the lives of the passengers were saved due to the skill and teamwork of the pilot. Indigo Airlines and the airport administration took immediate action and confirmed that all passengers were safe. Experts say that such incidents show the need to further strengthen bird control systems around the airport.

Russia has proposed to India its two indigenous passenger aircraft, Superjet-100 (SJ-100) and Il-114-300. Both these aircraft have been developed completely with Russian technology and are not dependent on parts from western countries. Russia says that this offer can prove to be a good option for India’s rapidly growing aviation industry.

To attract India, Russia has prepared a special design on the Il-114-300 aircraft with the colors of the Indian national flag. This is believed to be an indication that Russia is considering this deal not just as a commercial but also as a strategic partnership. If this proposal goes ahead, then a new chapter can be added in passenger flights after India-Russia defense and technical cooperation.

Video of interior of Superjet-100 released

According to Sputnik report, Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade has released a video of the interior of the Superjet-100, in which the PD-8 jet engine has been used. This aircraft will be kept on static display in the Wings India 2026 exhibition. At the same time, United Aircraft Corporation will present its new regional aircraft Il-114-300 for the first time in this event, where it will also be a part of the flight demonstration. The Il-114-300 is powered by a TV7-117ST-01 turboprop engine, while the new PD-8 jet engine is used in the Superjet-100. Both the engines have been developed in Russia. Rostec says that the design and technology of these aircraft are especially useful for countries that want to reduce dependence on Western sanctions or supply chains.

Make in India Program

Russia believes that India’s UDAN program and Make in India initiative create a big opportunity for these aircraft. The UDAN scheme aims to connect small towns and remote areas with air network, where the demand for regional aircraft is increasing rapidly. Turboprop aircraft like Il-114-300 are considered suitable for these routes.

Dependence on Boeing and Airbus manufacturers

At present, most of India’s airlines are dependent on western manufacturers like Boeing and Airbus. Russia argues that its aircraft will give India technological diversity and could reduce costs and supply shortages in the long run. However, the acceptance of these aircraft in the Indian market will depend on the safety standards, maintenance arrangements and economic conditions.

There was panic in the aviation sector after a bomb threat was received on an international flight coming from Bahrain to Hyderabad. According to information given by officials, Gulf Air flight number GF 274, which was flying from Bahrain to Shamshabad Airport (Rajiv Gandhi International Airport) in Hyderabad, was diverted towards Mumbai due to security reasons.

Early Tuesday morning officials received information that there was a bomb on the plane. As soon as the threatening call was received, security agencies and Air Traffic Control (ATC) immediately swung into action. As a precaution, the pilot was instructed to land at the nearby Mumbai airport instead of Hyderabad. The plane made a safe landing at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 4:20 am.

Security Checks and Protocols
Immediately after landing, the aircraft was taken to an isolated bay of the airport. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the bomb disposal squad surrounded the plane and launched a massive search operation. All passengers and crew members were brought down safely. According to Telugu media reports, a thorough investigation was conducted inside the plane and in the luggage hold. As per security protocol, passengers’ luggage was also re-screened.

Alert at Hyderabad Airport
The impact of this incident was also seen at Shamshabad Airport in Hyderabad. As soon as the news of the flight being diverted was received, high alert was declared at the airport. An atmosphere of anxiety and panic was seen among the people waiting for their families there and among other passengers also.

Till the latest information was received, investigation by the security agencies was going on and efforts were being made to ascertain whether the threat was just a rumor or there was some reality in it. A detailed official statement is still awaited from Gulf Air or civil aviation authorities. The administration is taking full caution while giving top priority to the safety of passengers.

The country’s longest government shutdown going on in America is impacting air travel. From Friday, flights will be reduced at about 40 major airports including New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. This decision has been taken due to shortage of air traffic control staff and to maintain safety.

FAA decides to cut flights by 10%
The FAA said it would reduce air traffic by up to 10% at 40 “high-volume” airports. US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned that flight capacity at 40 major airports across the country could be reduced by 10% in the coming days. The shutdown has now entered its 37th day and has become America’s longest government shutdown to date.

Political deadlock causes shutdown
This time the main cause of controversy is the expansion of the tax credit scheme related to health insurance. The Democratic Party wants this tax credit to continue beyond 2025, so that millions of Americans can get affordable health insurance. At the same time, the Republican Party, whose leader is Donald Trump, is opposing this expansion. Due to this, the government budget could not be passed and America went into a shutdown situation from October 1.

Lack of air traffic controllers and flights affected
Due to the shutdown, there is a huge shortage of air traffic controllers. There have already been restrictions on flights at New York’s JFK, Newark Liberty and LaGuardia airports due to staff shortage. FAA chief Brian Bedford said many air traffic controllers were falling sick due to stress and fatigue, and had not been paid for a month. Due to this, flights will be reduced in the coming days.

Federal employee status and cutback plans
Approximately 1.4 million federal employees are working without pay or are on forced leave. Many employees are forced to take other jobs or struggle with stress.
The flight reduction plan will be implemented in this way-

4% reduction in domestic flights on Friday

5% reduction on Saturday

6% decrease on Sunday

Increase by 10% next week

Flaws in scheduling and rostering still continue in Air India, even though the regulator had reprimanded it on the same issue 5 months ago. In the latest case, a co-pilot and a senior captain have been removed from flying duty after the airline learned that they each operated a flight last month.

In one case, the English Language Proficiency (ELP) license had expired, while in the other case, a co-pilot had not cleared the Bi-Annual Pilot Proficiency Check (PPC) Instrument Rating (IR) test. Let us tell you that now DGCA is investigating these flaws and a report has been sought from the airline.

Co-pilot could not clear latest IR-PPC check

According to the report, the co-pilot had failed to clear his latest IR-PPC check. Although this is not a very unusual thing, but the pilot has to take mandatory corrective training before flying again. In this case, the co-pilot operated the flight without training and this mistake is being taken very seriously.

What did Air India say?

An Air India spokesperson said, ‘The case of the first officer operating the flight after unsatisfactory performance in the training check was detected as soon as the mistake was noticed. The crew scheduler and pilot have been off-roster. Further legal process has been initiated and a report has been made to DGCA.

Pilot off-roster

In the second case, a senior captain operated an A-320 flight as pilot-in-command despite his ELP license having expired. Let us tell you that ELP license is the basic requirement for a pilot to fly. Air India has said that a case of senior pilot operating a flight with an expired ELP has come to light. After this the pilot was off-roster and investigation is going on and report has been made to DGCA. Senior pilots say that these flaws raise questions on the oversight in Air India to ensure that only the right pilots come on the roster.
