Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to work towards the fair, proper and mutually acceptable solution of the Indo-China border issue on Sunday (August 31, 2025). He also pledged to expand business and investment relations, acknowledging the role of both economies in stabilizing global trade.

The conversation between PM Modi and Xi Jinping in Northern China’s Tianjin city on the sidelines of the Annual Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation (SCO) took place in the backdrop of the upheaval in the global economy due to the tariff policy of the administration led by US President Donald Trump. The two leaders in their comprehensive conversation mainly focused on promoting trade and investment relations.

Modi emphasized the importance of peace and harmony in border areas

In the meeting, Prime Minister Modi underlined the importance of peace and harmony in the border areas for the continuous development of India-China relations. He said that New Delhi is committed to pursue its relationship with Beijing on the basis of mutual trust, respect and sensitivity.

He agreed to expand the shared base on bilateral, regional and global issues and challenges on terrorism and multilateral forums.

India-China cooperation is related to the interests of 2.8 billion people- PM Modi

In his statement aired on television, PM Modi said, ‘Our cooperation is related to the interests of 2.8 billion people of both countries. This will also pave the way for the welfare of all humanity. At the same time, the Ministry of External Affairs (Mea) said in its statement that Modi and Xi Jinping accepted the role of both economies in stabilizing the world trade and underlined the need to move political and strategically to promote bilateral trade and investment relations and to reduce trade deficit.

Mea said, ‘The Prime Minister emphasized that both India and China want strategic autonomy and their relations should not be seen from the perspective of a third country. The two leaders described the expansion of shared base on bilateral, regional and global issues and challenges on terrorism and multilateral forums.

What did PM Modi say after meeting with Jinping,

In a social media post, PM Modi termed his conversation with Xi Jinping as fruitful. He wrote, ‘We reviewed the positive pace of India-China relations after our last meeting in Kazan, Russia. We admitted that it is important to maintain peace and harmony in the border areas. We reiterated our commitment to cooperation based on mutual respect, interests and sensitivity.

India and China have taken several steps in recent months to remove the increased tussle in the relationship between the two countries after the violent clashes between Indian and Chinese soldiers in the Galwan Valley of East Ladakh in June 2020. Modi reached Tianjin in China from Japan on Saturday (30 August 2025) in the second phase of his visit to two countries. This is Modi’s first visit to China after more than seven years.

After meeting in Kazan, peace remains on India-China border- PM Modi

The Prime Minister said, “After the meeting of his and Xi Jinping in Kazan in October last year, there is an atmosphere of peace and stability on the Indo-China border.” At the same time, the Ministry of External Affairs said, ‘The two leaders welcomed the positive speed of bilateral relations and the continuous progress in it after their last meeting in Kazan in October. He emphasized that both countries are development partners, not the opponents and their differences should not be converted into controversies.

The ministry said, “Steady relations and cooperation based on mutual respect, interest and sensitivity between India, China and their 2.8 billion people are essential for the multiproof world and multipolar Asia, along with the growth and development of both countries, as well as the 21st century trends.” He said that the two leaders expressed satisfaction over the successful return of soldiers last year (from the disputed points of Eastern Ladakh) and the restoration of peace and harmony in the border areas.

Modi and Jinping committed to bilateral relations- Mea

The ministry said, “Modi and Xi Jinping committed to the political perspective of their overall bilateral relations and the long -term interests of the people of the two countries, committing to the fair, appropriate and mutually acceptable solution of the border issue.” He said, “The two leaders referred to the important decisions taken in the talks between two special representatives earlier this month and agreed to support their efforts even further.”

According to the ministry, Modi and Xi Jinping also underlined the need to strengthen the relationship between people through direct flights and visa facilities based on the restoration of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and tourist visa.

He said, ‘Both leaders accepted the important role of their economy in stabilizing world trade in connection with economic and business relations. He emphasized the need to move political and strategically to expand bilateral trade and investment relations and to reduce trade deficit.

PM Modi Sco Congratulations to Jinping for successful chairmanship

China welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s possible visit on Friday (August 8, 2025) on Friday (August 8, 2025) to attend the Tianjin Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Sangathan (SCO) later this month. He hoped that the event would be a meeting of solidarity, friendship and meaningful results.

People who have knowledge about the case in Delhi said this week that after a gap of seven years, Prime Minister Modi can visit China to attend the SCO’s annual summit later this month.

SCO summit will be held from 31 August to 1 September

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said, “China welcomes Prime Minister Modi for the SCO’s Tianjin Summit.” He was asked about the news of Modi’s visit to China to attend the summit. China will host the SCO Summit in Tianjin from 31 August to 1 September.

He said, “We believe that the combined effort of all parties will have a confluence of solidarity, friendship and meaningful consequences and SCO will enter a new phase of high quality development with more solidarity, coordination, mobility and productivity.”

Sco This conference of the biggest event after its establishment- Guo

Guo said, “Leaders of more than 20 countries, including all member countries of SCO and 10 international organizations, will participate in the relevant programs. SCO Tianjin Summit will be the biggest summit since the establishment of SCO.”

Modi is expected to visit Japan around August 29. After this, he can go to the Chinese city of Tianjin for the SCO summit. There has been no official confirmation of Modi’s visit to Japan and China to two countries yet.

The meeting between PM Modi and President Jinping is not clear

China is the current president of SCO. In such a situation, India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval had gone to China to participate in SCO meetings in the last two months. However, it is not yet clear whether Prime Minister Modi and President Jinping will hold a bilateral meeting during the SCO Summit or not. It is expected that Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the top leaders participating in the SCO Summit.

PM Modi went to China in 2018 last time

Prime Minister Modi last came to China to attend the SCO summit in June 2018. At the same time, Chinese President Xi Jinping went to India for the second informal summit in October 2019. However, in eastern Ladakh, there was a tussle between the two countries due to deadlock on the border. The military deadlock in eastern Ladakh began in May 2020 and in June the same year, there was a serious tension in the relationship in the Galwan Valley.

In 2024, Modi-Jinping met in Kazan, Russia

The deadlock was effectively ended after the process of returning soldiers from the last two conflict points of Demchok and Depsang under the agreement on 21 October last year. It was decided to resume various dialogues in a meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Jinping on 23 October 2024 in Kazan, Russia.

This meeting of Modi-shee was held between India and China two days after the agreement to withdraw soldiers from Depsang and Demchok. The two sides took several initiatives to reinforce the relationship, including to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and re -start tourist visas to Chinese citizens from New Delhi. The two sides are also discussing the methods of resumption of direct flight services between the two countries.

Was in 2001 in Shanghai Sco Establishment of

The SCO consisting of India, China, Russia, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Belarus is an impressive economic and security group that has emerged as one of the largest inter -international international organizations. It was founded in 2001 by the Presidents of Russia, China, Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan at a summit in Shanghai. Pakistan became its permanent member with India in 2017. Iran joined the group in 2023 and Belarus in 2024.
