Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi completed his visit to Britain on Friday (July 25, 2025) and reached Maldives’s capital Male on a two-day (25-26 July 2025) visit. During this time, the President of Maldives, Prof. Chinese-ideology, broke the protocol and reached the airport to welcome Prime Minister Modi. Apart from President Mujju, the top four ministers of the Maldives government were also seen standing at the airport to welcome PM Modi. These four top ministers included Maldives Foreign Minister, Defense Minister, Finance Minister and Minister in Home Affairs.

Maldives President sent invitation to PM Modi

In fact, Maldives President Mujju invited Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi to attend the 60th Independence Day celebrations of Maldives on Saturday (July 26, 2025) as the chief guest. However, PM Modi’s visit is showing improvement in stressful relations between India and Maldives, which had been stressful since the formation of the government of Mohammad Mujju, influenced by China’s ideology in 2023.

India out campaign and PM Relations were stressed after comments against Modi

In 2023, Mohammad Mujju started the ‘India Out’ campaign, on the strength of which he also gained power in Maldives. Mohammad Mujju, influenced by the Chinese ideology, spoke of freeing Maldives from India’s influence. After this, many comments were made against PM Modi on behalf of Maldives officials, which made the relationship between the two countries tense.

How to improve the relations between India and Maldives

However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Mohammad Mujju held a bilateral meeting on Friday (July 25, 2025) and held talks to improve the bilateral relations of India-Maldives. During this time, the leaders of both countries discussed cooperation on many issues including trade, tourism, defense and infrastructure. At the same time, PM Modi also announced 72 vehicles and many other equipment to the Ministry of Defense for the Maldives army.
