It is said that only neighbors in trouble are useful, the same thing was clearly seen at the 25th SCO summit started in Tianjin, China, where Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping came face to face after years. This meeting took place after 7 years and at a time when America has increased the pressure on India to impose tariff by 50%. In such a situation, when the leaders of two big countries of Asia appeared to be standing together, the world’s eyes also stood on them.

Xi Jinping said on this occasion that India and China are counted among the oldest and largest civilized countries in the world. Both Global are an important part of South, in such a situation it is best to remain neighbor and friend. He also said that it is necessary to become friends and good neighbors and to come together with dragon and elephant. But do you know why China is called Dragon and India is called elephant? Let’s know this funny anecdote.

Why India was called an elephant?

Indeed, this symbolic comparison was first introduced by foreign media for the first time. In 2015, the New York Times during the Paris Climate Summit showed India in cartoons as a large and dull elephant, stopping the train of climate change. That is, India was described as a slow and obstructed country. At the same time, China got the image of the dragon, as the dragon is considered a symbol of power and boom in their culture.

Experts say that elephant for India began to be used more than the 1990s, when India started economic reforms, foreign magazines compared India to China. China was called a sharp and aggressive dragon, while India was sometimes said to be a dull and sometimes a lame elephant.

Canadian author David M. Malon does his book does the Elephant Dance? I wrote that India may run with slow steps, but is stable and strong like an elephant. Gradually, the word elephant became an international recognition for India.

Why did China become a dragon?

At the same time, the story of China is different. About 1800 years ago, the Han dynasty made Dragon a royal symbol. The emperor used to connect it with his strength and pride. Even today, dragon is considered a symbol of luck and prosperity in China. Whereas in the stories of Western countries, the dragon was shown as a dangerous monster.

Pandit Nehru’s animal diplomacy

India’s ties with elephants is also very old. From the seals of the Indus Valley Civilization to Lord Ganesha, the elephant has been an important part of Indian culture. After independence, Pandit Nehru also used the elephant in diplomacy. He sent elephants to the children of Canada and Japan, which was called animal diplomacy. That is, it is clear that this story of dragon and elephant is not just a symbol, but reflects the identity and thinking of both countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday (August 31, 2025). After meeting Xi Jinping, PM Modi said that the relations between India and China should not be seen from the perspective of a third country. Prime Minister Modi’s comment clearly indicates the aggressive trade tariff policies of the US and President Donald Trump.

A statement has been issued by India’s Foreign Ministry on Sunday (August 31, 2025). In the statement, the ministry said, “The two leaders have discussed the need to increase India and China’s need to increase the shared base on terrorism and multilateral platforms such as bilateral, regional and global issues and challenges.” The statement also emphasized the strategic rights of Asian neighboring countries.

China reached China amidst the implementation of America’s tariff

The meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping took place on Sunday (August 31, 2025) during the bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation (SCO) held in Tianjin city of China.

PM Modi’s visit to Japan and China took place at a time when US President Donald Trump is constantly isolating India from Russia to import crude oil and many other issues. At the same time, talk about PM Modi’s visit to China, which has taken place after seven years, then the meeting of him and Chinese President Xi Jinping was held when the two countries are showing softening after a military conflict over border dispute in Ladakh’s Galwani Valley in 2020.

What should Prime Minister Narendra Modi speak to Chinese President,

According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (Mea), Modi and Xi Jinping reiterated that the difference in their votes should not be converted into controversies. The two leaders agreed to the fact that ‘both their (India and China) economies have important role in stabilizing the global trade.’ In addition, he also discussed the need to find the solutions accepted in a fair, logical and both sides of the border dispute.

According to Mea, Prime Minister Modi told Xi Jinping, ‘Both India and China follow their strategic rights and their relations should not be seen from any third country’s perspective.’

It is also read from Kailash Mansarovar Yatra to Direct Flight … What issues were discussed between Xi Jinping and PM Modi?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Tianjin on Saturday (August 30, 2025) on a two -day visit to China. This is his first visit to China after more than seven years, which is taking place at a time when India and America have a sudden decline in relations with the tariff policy of US President Donald Trump.

Modi is mainly in China to participate in the annual summit to be held on 31 August and September 1, 2025 of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). However, there is also a program to hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Zipping on Sunday (August 31, 2025).

Bilateral meeting of Modi and Jinping is very important

This bilateral meeting of Modi and Xi Jinping is considered very important, because India and China are considering strengthening bilateral relations amid tension in global trade with the tariff policy of Trump. In the meeting, there is a possibility of taking stock of the India-China economic relations between Modi and Jinping and the measures to remove the increased tussle in the relationship after the border dispute in Eastern Ladakh.

PM Modi posted after reaching China on a visit to China

Modi arrived in China’s Tianjin from Japan under the second and final phase of his two countries. He said in a social media post, ‘I have landed in Tianjin, China. I am eager to discuss the SCO summit and meet various world leaders. A group of artists welcomed PM Modi with a charming performance of Indian classical music and dance at the hotel.

Vladimir Putin may also have bilateral talks on a visit to China

During the SCO Summit, PM Modi is also likely to hold bilateral talks with Russia President Vladimir Putin and many other leaders. Prior to Tianjin’s visit, Modi had said that it is important to work together India and China to bring stability to the global economic system.

India-China can bring stability in global economic system- PM Modi

In an interview on Friday (August 29, 2025) to the Japanese newspaper The Yomuri Shimbun, Prime Minister Modi said that stable, predicted and friendly relations between India and China can have a positive impact on regional and global peace and prosperity.

He said, “Given the current instability in the world economy, it is necessary to work together of two big economies like India and China, so that stability can be brought in the global economic system.”

PM Modi reached Tianjin after Chinese Foreign Minister’s visit to India

Modi’s visit to China is taking place less than 15 days after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to India. Foreign Minister S. After a comprehensive dialogue with Wang Yi with Jaishankar and National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, India and China announced several measures for stable, collaborative and visionary relations between the two sides. These measures include maintaining peace jointly on the disputed border, reopening boundaries to trade and restoring direct flight services as soon as possible.
