During the hearing in the High Court, the judge clearly said that in a serious case like POCSO, interim protection cannot be given to the accused. The court said that it cannot order a stay on the arrest of Bhagiratha. The final decision in the matter will now rest with the next vacation bench.

The defense lawyers had demanded from the court that Bhagirath’s arrest be stayed till the next hearing, but the judge rejected this request. Tamil Nadu News: Police have arrested 7 people under the POCSO Act for gang-raping a 17-year-old girl from Ayyampettai area of ​​Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu. This incident has created a stir in the area. The girl, who hails from a village near Ayyampettai in Thanjavur district, befriends Appu (aka) S. of the same area in 2022. Surendran Pandian.

It is being claimed that their friendship turned into love. After this, Surendran Pandian gang-raped the girl. However, later both separated. After this, from the year 2025, the girl came in contact with Manimaran, 20 year old son of Vinayakamurthy, resident of Punnianallur village. She also befriended Sudhan alias Jayasudhan, 24 year old son of Kumar, resident of Pashupati Kovil. It is said that the girls lived with each other without knowing each other.

Meanwhile, the girl’s health was deteriorating for the last few days, after which the girl’s parents admitted her to the Kumbakonam Government Hospital for treatment. The doctors there told after examination that the girl was 6 months pregnant. The parents were shocked by this and when they interrogated the girl, she told that Manimaran and Jayasudhan had gang-raped her.

The victim narrated her ordeal to the police

Child Protection Committee officials received information in this regard. Immediately, they took the girl to Papanasam Women Police Station and lodged a complaint. When the police interrogated the girl, she told that Manimaran and Jayasudhan gang-raped her. Further, he informed that Surendran Pandian, M. Vishwanathan of Ayyampettai, R. Rocky alias Rakesh, R. Akash, M. Shanmugam, Saravanan’s son Ashok, resident of Punnianallur, also raped her.

After this, Papanasam lady police inspector Usha along with the police interrogated Manimaran and Jayasudhan. It was revealed that both of them had gang-raped the girl. After this, a case was registered under the POCSO Act and both Manimaran and Jayasudhan were arrested.

Apart from this, 5 others including Surendran Pandian were arrested under the POCSO Act yesterday. Police are searching for Vishwanathan who is absconding. Apart from this, the police admitted the girl to the government hospital for medical examination. This incident has created a stir in Ayyampettai area.
