Till now people used to think that pollution only affects and makes our lungs, breath and heart sick, but according to a research, pollution is also affecting the fertility of men and women. The most frightening thing is that pollution is also having a serious impact on the pregnancy of women, due to which the cases of abortion in hospitals are increasing rapidly. Due to the polluted air of Delhi NCR and AQI reaching critical levels, miscarriage or abortion among women is increasing rapidly, which is a matter of great concern.

What came out in China’s report?

According to a report published in China, severe level of pollution is no less than a threat to women. It was told in the report that excessive exposure to pollution or living in a polluted place is having a harmful effect on both the quantity and quality of eggs in the ovaries of women, which also reduces the quantity of eggs.

Impact of pollution on women in Delhi NCR

Delhi NCR is one of the places most affected by pollution in India, where according to many doctors, the number of pregnant women in hospitals is increasing. Among these, pregnant women are coming with problems like cold, fever and cough, due to which many IVF surgeries are being canceled because problems like cold and cough are increasing in women.

Effect of pollution on AMH hormone

According to research, when a woman is exposed to pollution for a long time, the level of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) in that woman reduces significantly. Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) is a hormone that determines how many eggs are left in a woman’s ovaries. If the level of this hormone decreases in a woman, it means that there are very few eggs left in the ovary, which directly affects fertility. Why are PM 2.5 and NO2 more dangerous? The biggest reason for the decrease of this hormone is the severe amount of pollution. When the level of pollution in the environment becomes PM 2.5, PM 10 and PM 1 and the amount of nitrogen dioxide (NO2) is high, the level of anti-Müllerian hormone in the body automatically reduces.

Hormonal imbalance and effect on menstruation

Women are most at risk of hormonal imbalance in the body due to their living or coming in contact with places with high air pollution, which can lead to disturbances in the menstrual cycle. If there are too many pollutants like PM 2.5 and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) in the air, they have a harmful effect on progesterone and estrogen levels, which seriously impacts fertility.

Dense smog has once again spread over Delhi and surrounding areas and the air quality has become very poor. Meanwhile, China has set itself an example by talking about this ‘common fight’ on pollution with India. China says that it has reduced pollution significantly with continuous efforts in the last decade and is ready to share its experiences with India.

China compared Delhi’s pollution in pictures

Chinese Embassy spokeswoman Yu Jing posted on social media platform X that both China and India are struggling with pollution amid rapid urbanization. He shared pictures comparing the air quality of Beijing and New Delhi. On one hand, Beijing’s AQI was 68, which falls in the ‘satisfactory’ category, while Delhi’s AQI was 447, which is in the ‘severe’ level.

Yu Jing wrote, ‘China also once struggled with severe smog. Due to our continuous efforts in the last decade, there has been a lot of improvement. In the coming days, we will share our experience through small series.

Pollution situation in Delhi is very serious

Commission for Air Quality Management has implemented Stage-4 of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). This includes ban on construction work, ban on polluting vehicles and other emergency measures. Delhi’s winter pollution crisis is repeated every year.

What did China do to fight pollution?

Temporary steps starting with the 2008 Beijing Olympics laid the basis for further policies.

In 2013, considering pollution as ‘serious’, a National Action Plan was started.

Changes in coal-based power plants and tightening of emission standards of factories.

Reduce dependence on coal and increase renewable energy.

Worked closely with neighboring areas (such as Tianjin and Hebei) to achieve common goals.

Made big investments, like spending on pollution control increased manifold from 2013 to 2017.

Promoted electric vehicles and public transport.

What results did China get from this?

PM2.5 levels in Beijing decreased by 35% between 2013-2017.

Last year, 290 days of good air were recorded in Beijing, which is a record.

China reduced pollution the most in the world.

What is the lesson for Delhi from China?

China’s experience shows that pollution can be reduced through strict policies, regional coordination, transparent data, consistent funding and strict enforcement. National Clean Air Program is also running in India, but experts say that regional cooperation and faster implementation is needed. China has said that it is ready to share this journey with India.

This incident shows the potential for environmental cooperation between the two countries, while people in Delhi wait for clean air.

Living in Delhi-NCR is no longer difficult just because of traffic or inflation, but lack of clean air has become the biggest problem for the people here. The havoc of pollution returns with every winter, but this time the situation looks more scary than ever. The air has become so poisonous that people are forced to check AQI on mobile before breathing.

The situation has become very serious after the Air Quality Index (AQI) reached above 450 in the capital and surrounding areas. Keeping this in view, the government has implemented GRAP-4 (Fourth Phase of Graded Response Action Plan), which is considered to be the strictest step to deal with pollution. Along with this, shocking facts have come to light in a survey of community platform Local Circles. In which it has been found that 8 percent people want to leave Delhi and 52 percent are falling ill in some way or the other.

GRAP-4 implemented, restrictions and strictness

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) reported that AQI was continuously increasing. AQI was recorded at 431, which increased to 441 within a few hours. After this, considering the situation, it was decided to immediately implement GRAP-4 in the entire NCR. Under GRAP-4, trucks, loaders and heavy vehicles (except vehicles carrying essential goods) will not be able to enter Delhi. All construction and demolition work will be completely stopped. In government and private offices, only 50 percent of the employees will come to office, the rest will work from home. Schools up to classes 9 and 11 will run in hybrid mode. NCR District Magistrates can impose additional strictness in their respective areas. This order has been issued under the Environment Protection Act, 1986.

52 percent people sick in local circles survey

Shocking facts have come to light in a major survey of community platform LocalCircles. More than 52 percent people said that they or their close ones have fallen ill due to pollution. 82 percent of people’s family, friends or colleagues are suffering from some serious illness. 28 percent people said that 4 or more people among their acquaintances are sick due to pollution. Due to this, diseases like asthma, chronic respiratory disease (COPD), lung damage, heart failure and stroke are increasing. Doctors say that due to prolonged exposure to toxic air, these diseases are increasing rapidly, especially in children and the elderly.

8 percent people want to leave Delhi

The survey also revealed that 8 percent people are planning to leave Delhi-NCR. Many people have already gone to other cities. Hills and small towns are becoming the first choice of people. People say that they want to live in a city where there is no need to look at a mobile app to breathe.

The serious problem of pollution persists in the national capital of the country. Due to air pollution in Delhi, health related problems of people are increasing. Meanwhile, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has given a big statement. While apologizing to the people of Delhi, he said that it is impossible for any government to completely eliminate pollution in just nine-ten months. Along with Aam Aadmi Party, he also held Congress responsible for this.

Delhi government minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said, “Our government in Delhi is trying to improve the average AQI every month. While apologizing to the people of Delhi, I want to say that it is impossible for any government to clean up all the pollution in 9-10 months. But I want to tell you, people of Delhi, that the Aam Aadmi Party government has been dishonest and deceitful, we have improved it and reduced the AQI.

Delhi: Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa says, “…I want to apologize to the people of Delhi and say that it is impossible for any government to completely eliminate pollution in just nine-ten months. However, I want to assure Delhi residents that we have worked tirelessly to… pic.twitter.com/xYiY6zAJDQ

Pollution disease due to AAP and Congress- Sirsa

Sirsa further said, “Only if we continue to reduce pollution in this manner, it is possible to provide clean air to Delhi. This is the disease of the previous government of Aam Aadmi Party for 10-12 years and Congress for 15 years. Now when Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi ji talk about wearing masks, I want to ask them, where were your masks last year? Last year there was more pollution than this.

‘Pollution in Delhi harms people’s health’

He also said, “Last year there were dirtier days than this.” Last year, if we talk about today, AQI was 380 but neither Rahul Gandhi nor Priyanka Gandhi was seen. These people were associated with Aam Aadmi Party. Today he has remembered everything. Of course there is pollution in Delhi, children’s health is being harmed but this is the contribution of Aam Aadmi Party, which we are trying to fix. We are taking action every day like doctors, but the Aam Aadmi Party has given us the task of making people sick.

Let us tell you that on Tuesday (December 16) morning, some improvement was seen in the air quality (AQI) of the national capital, where the AQI was 377 as compared to 498 a day earlier. However, there was fog in the city and visibility was also low.

Congress Party’s Lok Sabha MP Vamsi Krishna Gaddam reached Parliament House with an electric bike. He told that the level of air pollution in Delhi is high, hence he came to Parliament using an electric bike. According to the MP, this electric bike runs for about 100 kilometers on a charge of just Rs 20. ‘RG’ was written on the bike.

Its price is said to be around Rs 1 lakh. Vamsi Krishna Gaddam said that in view of pollution, attention should be paid to the use of electric vehicles. There was discussion in the Parliament premises regarding his initiative. While talking to the media, the Congress MP told that he has made this bike himself and has also taken all the permissions related to it.

Hearing in Supreme Court on pollution tomorrow
The Supreme Court on Monday said it will hear on December 17 a petition related to worsening air pollution levels in Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR). A bench of Chief Justice (CJI) Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Vipul M Pamcholi considered the arguments of senior advocate Aparajita Singh, who is assisting the court as amicus curiae. Singh said that unless this court gives any direction, the officers do not follow the already existing protocol.

CJI commented
On this the CJI said, ‘This matter will come before a bench of three judges on Wednesday. There will be a hearing on this. Another lawyer, citing an application related to health issues of children, said that despite earlier orders, schools are organizing outdoor sports activities. The amicus curiae also said, ‘Despite this court order, schools have found ways to organize these sports activities…these activities are taking place. CAQM (Commission for Air Quality Management) is once again citing this court order.

AQI crossed 400
On Monday, Delhi remained wrapped in a blanket of dense smog, due to which the Air Quality Index (AQI) reached 498, which falls in the ‘severe’ category. The air quality was ‘severe’ at 38 centres, while it was ‘very poor’ at two centres. Jahangirpuri recorded an AQI of 498, which was the worst air quality center among all the 40 centres.

In view of the serious problem of pollution in Delhi, an important decision has been taken regarding outdoor physical sports activities. The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has directed the state governments of Delhi and NCR to immediately stop all outdoor physical sports activities. Also warned that continuing such events amidst poor air quality can pose a serious threat to the health of children.

CAQM has written a letter to the Chief Secretaries of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh on Saturday (December 13), saying that it is concerned that despite the instructions given earlier as per the Supreme Court order of November 19, some schools and institutions of Delhi-NCR are still conducting outdoor sports activities.

Instructions to create awareness about health risks

“Continuing outdoor physical activities during poor air quality is against the spirit and intent of the Supreme Court’s observations and the Commission’s directions,” CAQM said. In the letter, the commission asked to postpone the physical sports competitions to be held in November and December. It directed the NCR state governments and the Delhi government to ensure strict and immediate compliance of the earlier instructions, issue necessary instructions to all schools, educational institutions, sports bodies and local authorities to close outdoor physical sports activities and sensitize schools and parents about the health risks involved.

Instructions to closely monitor and take appropriate action

CAQM also asked the authorities to closely monitor compliance at the field level and take appropriate action in case of any violations. On Saturday, the panel took the strictest action under its air pollution control plan, GRAP, which includes banning all construction and demolition activities in Delhi-NCR following a sharp rise in pollution levels amid extreme weather conditions.

What are the restrictions under GRAP Stage IV?

Under Stage IV of GRAP, entry of trucks in Delhi has been stopped, except those carrying essential goods or providing essential services. However, movement of CNG, LNG, electric and BS-VI diesel trucks has been allowed. There is a ban on plying of registered diesel heavy goods vehicles (BS-IV and below) in Delhi, with exemption again only for essential services.

Ban on construction and demolition activities also

All construction and demolition activities are banned, including public projects like highways, roads, flyovers, power transmission lines, pipelines and telecom, which are usually allowed in the lower stages. Schools in Delhi and the worst-affected NCR districts have been asked to run classes not only for primary students but also for higher classes (VI to IX and XI) in hybrid mode (online and physical), with students given the option to attend online classes wherever possible.

Under Stage IV, state governments have been asked to consider taking additional emergency measures such as closing colleges and educational institutions, shutting down non-essential commercial activities and even imposing odd-even rules for vehicles if the pollution situation worsens.

Restrictions under GRAP apply in Delhi in winter

It is noteworthy that during winter, restrictions are imposed in the Delhi-NCR region under GRAP, which divides the air quality into four stages – Stage I (poor, AQI 201-300), Stage II (very poor, AQI 301-400), Stage III (severe, AQI 401-450), and Stage IV (very severe, AQI above 450). In winter, due to bad weather conditions, smoke from vehicles, stubble burning, firecrackers and other local sources of pollution, the air quality in Delhi-NCR reaches dangerous levels.

Amidst the increasing cold in North India, air pollution has further increased the problems of the people of Delhi-NCR. Even on Sunday morning, the capital and surrounding areas did not get respite from the poisonous air. The situation is so serious that in many areas the Air Quality Index (AQI) has crossed 490, due to which Delhi has reached the ‘severe-to-severe’ category. Along with this, dense fog has badly affected life.

AQI crosses 490 in Delhi, air becomes poisonous
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), AQI was recorded above 490 in many areas of Delhi at 6 am on Sunday. The entire capital remains in ‘Severe Plus’ category. The air quality in Noida and other NCR areas also remains very poor.

Dense fog, visibility less than 50 meters
Along with pollution, dense fog has also increased the problems of the people. Visibility has been recorded less than 50 meters in many areas, due to which road, rail and air traffic has been affected.

Stage-III and IV of GRAP implemented
After Delhi’s AQI reached 401 on Saturday, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) implemented Stage-III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). Later, when AQI increased beyond 450, Stage-IV was also implemented. At present all phases of GRAP are in effect.

Strict restrictions on vehicles
Under GRAP, movement of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers has been banned in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar. Apart from this, entry of diesel trucks of BS-IV or below and non-essential heavy vehicles has been stopped in Delhi.

50% staff in government-private offices, work from home
Delhi Government has issued an order under Section 5 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986, directing 50% of the employees in government and private offices to work from home. Only the remaining 50% employees will work in offices.

Classes in hybrid mode in schools
The government has given instructions to study in hybrid mode for students up to classes IX and XI. However, classes for classes X and XII will continue as normal.

Ban on construction and demolition work
Under Stage-III of GRAP, all construction and demolition works have been banned in Delhi-NCR. There is a possibility that this will affect the livelihood of daily wage labourers. The exemption given to projects like highways, roads and flyovers in Stage-IV has also been withdrawn.

CAQM warning
CAQM said that due to slow wind, stable environment and adverse weather, the pollutants are not being spread. The Commission has advised children, elderly and people suffering from serious diseases to stay indoors and avoid outdoor activities.

Double blow of cold and pollution
On one hand, severe cold and dense fog are troubling people, on the other hand, severe pollution has posed a big threat to the health of the people of Delhi-NCR. Till the situation becomes normal, the administration has appealed to remain alert and follow the instructions issued.

Google has become the first trusted platform for Indians to get health related information in the year 2025. Be it a mild headache or high fever, numbness in hands and legs or sudden pain in the stomach, most people try to understand what is going wrong with their body by searching on the internet before going to the doctor. Google Trends throughout the year show which health symptoms Indian users search for the most information about and what could be the possible reasons behind these symptoms.

Fever

Fever is the most Googled symptom by Indians in 2025. Generally the body temperature increases, the main reason for which is above normal body temperature (about 98.6°F). This is often the body’s response to fight infection or disease.

Headache

Headache is also one of the most searched symptoms in India. This is a common problem, but if it increases then it can be a sign of serious diseases, such as the risk of migraine increases significantly.

Cough

Cough is one of the most Googled symptoms in India. This can be a sign of anything from mild allergy to serious lung disease. Cough can start due to change in weather, increase in pollution, cold, dust or viral infection.

sore throat

Sore throat is one of the most common and most searched symptoms in India. It can also be caused by pollution, virus, bacteria, allergies, acidity (GERD), tonsillitis or excessive use of noise.

body pain

Body pain has now become a very common problem in India. Earlier this problem was seen in the elderly, but now it is increasing in the youth and even children. If pain in the body or joints persists for several days, it is important to consult a doctor.

Chest pain

Chest pain is one of the most worrying symptoms in India. It is often seen that people get heart attacks immediately after chest pain. This is why people Google it the most. However, sometimes this pain can be caused only due to gas, acidity, muscle strain or stress.

Vomit

Vomiting is a symptom that many people Google in India, as it can be caused by anything from simple indigestion to severe food poisoning. It is important to get treatment on time.

hair fall

Hair fall has become a big problem for Indians in 2025. Its causes include genetic reasons, head infection, hormonal changes, excessive stress and thyroid.

Why People Are Leaving Delhi: The air in Delhi is very bad at this time. On one hand, North India is facing the brunt of cold, while on the other hand, Delhi is also facing the brunt of pollution along with cold. In areas like Anand Vihar, Ghazipur, India Gate and Duty Path, ITO and Akshardham Temple, the blanket of fog dimmed the sunlight a bit. The worsening air quality of Delhi is now forcing people to take difficult decisions. Many families have started leaving the city and settling in cities with clean air like Bengaluru. There are many families who lived their lives in the streets of Delhi but are now forced to leave the streets of Delhi to save their lives.

people leaving delhi

The story is no longer just about one or two families. Last week, a post went viral on social media, in which a professional said that his wife left a prestigious government job to leave Delhi’s polluted air, fearing for the health of their child. This post brought out the frustration and uneasiness buried within the people regarding the unsafe air of Delhi-NCR. The air quality of the city has been stuck in the poor category for the last several weeks. Now pollution is no longer just an issue of weather, but has started affecting people’s lifestyle and future decisions.

Many people move to other places until the winter passes, while some are deciding to leave the city permanently. Many people said while talking to the media, “Maybe I had become accustomed to the air of Delhi, but my parents’ health started deteriorating every winter. After the arrival of the child, it was decided that there was no point in stopping now. Got a job in another city and we took the same house there. There is no reason to come back.” Some people are forced to stay in the city, but life has not been easy. Some people move out of the city during pollution months for work. The rest seek respite by spending a few weeks in hilly areas like Ranikhet, Mussoorie, Chail or Kasauli.

not easy for everyone

However, it is not so easy for everyone to leave the city. As one user wrote on X that not everyone can leave the place. Most of the people are tied to jobs or compulsions. The real need is for efficient administration and strong policies. It’s easy to run away, but difficult to fix the problem.

Film producer-director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, who has made films on serious subjects like ‘The Delhi Files’ and ‘The Kashmir Files’, has expressed concern over the problem of increasing pollution.

In his latest post, he described the country as a hub of all kinds of pollution and termed the countrymen as frogs in slowly boiling water.

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri posted this

Vivek Ranjan wrote on his Instagram handle, “India has become a hub of all types of pollution – air, sound and eye. Pollution has now become the wallpaper of India. We see it every day, but ignore it. We have now started living with it.”

He took the help of the famous frog example. Vivek wrote, “A frog put in cold water does not react immediately when the water is slowly heated. By the time the water becomes completely hot, the frog is so weak that it cannot even jump. We are the same frog. We did not choose to jump, we have learned to adjust. Slow poisoning seems easier to tolerate than sudden change.”

Where is Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri pointing?

Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s message is clear, whether it is the poisonous air of Delhi, the hatred and obscenity spreading on social media, or the ever-increasing noise pollution, we all are slowly becoming accustomed to all this. Statistics and reports alone cannot awaken our carelessness. Instead of eliminating these problems, we are trying to adjust to them.

Let us tell you that the air quality of Delhi remains in very poor category. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded AQI 338 on Saturday. According to air quality and weather agencies, no significant improvement in the pollution situation is expected in the coming week.
