Girls Dropped Out Rate India : Even today, there are millions of children in India who leave school midway due to financial constraints, domestic responsibilities and social problems. The most worrying thing about this is that a large number of girls are leaving school. In many cases, weak financial condition of the family, household work, responsibilities at a young age and difficulty in accessing school are becoming the reasons for stopping their education. According to reports, between 2022-23 and 2023-24, lakhs of children left school at primary and upper primary levels across the country. Among them, the number of boys is more, but in many states the situation of girls dropping out of education remains very worrying. In such a situation, let us know how many girls are leaving studies every year due to lack of money and which state has the highest number.

In which states are most children leaving studies?

According to the report, Bihar tops the states with highest dropouts in the country. More than 27 lakh children left school here. After this, names of states like Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Assam have emerged. The states with highest dropouts include Bihar 27.69 lakh, Rajasthan 8.99 lakh, Uttar Pradesh 7.41 lakh, Madhya Pradesh 3.37 lakh and Assam 3.58 lakh. The economic situation in these states, problems in rural areas and limited access to education are being considered as the major reasons.

How many girls are leaving studies every year due to lack of money?

A survey by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) revealed that a large number of girls are missing out on education due to household chores. According to the report, about 33 percent girls were forced to leave school due to household work. In many places girls have to take care of younger brothers and sisters. At the same time, some families, due to financial compulsion, send their girls to work as laborers or to work in homes. In rural areas, early marriage is also considered a major reason for stopping girls’ education.

Which state has the highest number?

In Uttar Pradesh, the dropout percentage of girls at primary and upper primary levels was higher than that of boys. Especially between classes 6 to 8, a large number of girls are leaving studies. Apart from this, in Rajasthan and some other states also, the dropout rate was found to be higher among girls from Muslim and tribal communities.

Which states performed better?

Some states also showed better situation in the report. In which the dropout figures in states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal have been reported to be very low or zero, although experts say that there may be a need to re-examine these figures, yet the effect of education system, awareness and government schemes in these states is considered to be better.

What suggestions has the government given?

The central government has advised states with high dropouts to take special steps. Under this, emphasis is being laid on steps like regular monitoring of children in schools, financial assistance to poor students, special schemes for girls, better school facilities in rural areas and rejoining dropout children back to school.

In the Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh, the Chief Minister is preparing for financial help to poor daughters of backward classes on the lines of mass marriage scheme. So far, only 20 thousand rupees are available in the marriage grant scheme of the Backward Classes Welfare Department, while the government gives 60 thousand rupees to the bride’s account in the Chief Minister’s Group Marriage Scheme. Now the Backward Classes Welfare Department has prepared a plan in this equal form.

The objective of this scheme is to arrange for the marriage of daughters of OBC poor families. Soon such families will be identified and benefited.

Backward poor families will get benefit

Minister of State for Backward Classes Welfare (Independent Charge) Narendra Kashyap said that now a proposal has been made to increase the grant to 60 thousand rupees, which will benefit the poor families of backward classes. Our government is helping the poor and backward.

Two daughters get help in marriage

The Backward Classes Welfare Department is operating the wedding grant scheme for daughters of poor families of other backward classes (except minority backward classes). In this, an amount of 20 thousand rupees is given as a grant on the marriage of the adult daughters of families with income up to Rs 1 lakh per year. Under the scheme, a grant is given for the marriage of a maximum of two daughters of a family. Income certificate is mandatory for application. At the same time, destitute women or widow women applicants are given preference and they do not require income certificate.

Increased amount in mass marriage scheme

Please tell that the Yogi government has increased the amount of Chief Minister’s mass marriage scheme. Earlier, 51 thousand rupees were given for the marriage of a girl. In which 35 thousand rupees used to go to the bride’s account and the goods worth 10 thousand were available to the young people. Now this amount has been increased to one lakh rupees, with sending 60 thousand rupees directly to the account, a normal married couple of 25 thousand rupees is given as a gift.

On the target of this scheme, there was a demand to increase marriage grant in backward class girls. On which the proposal has been made.
