TIME Releases 100 Most Influentials: America’s prestigious Time magazine on Wednesday released the list of the world’s 100 most influential people, which includes many big names associated with politics, diplomacy and global leadership. Veteran leaders like Pope Leo, US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have been included in this list. The inclusion of the name of New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has also become a topic of special discussion.

Other global leaders whose names are included in this list include US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Canadian PM Mark Carney, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, Japan’s first female PM Sanei Takaichi and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

On Monday, Pope Leo responded to Trump’s statements by saying, ‘I have no fear of the Trump administration.’ He said that the Vatican repeatedly appeals for peace and this is not related to any politics, but to the teachings of Christianity. He also said that it is wrong to link his message to Trump’s political statements and that he will continue to move forward on his mission.

Warning on ‘illusion of power’
Pope Leo said his statements were not against any single leader, but against the growing “illusion of omnipotence” in the world, which is fueling wars. He stressed that the Church’s aim is not conflict, but peace and reconciliation.

Trump’s counterattack – called the Pope ‘weak’
At the same time, Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on the Pope, calling him ‘weak on crime’ and ‘bad for foreign policy’. He said that the Pope opposes America’s policies, especially the steps against Iran. Trump also said that he does not like a Pope who, according to him, does not take a tough stance against Iran’s acquisition of nuclear weapons.

Trump further said that he is not a big fan of Pope Leo and described him as “very liberal”. He also advised that the Pope should stay away from politics and focus on religious work, as such statements could harm the Church.

Pope’s global appeal – ‘Stop the war now’
Earlier on Saturday, Pope Leo had appealed to world leaders to end the war. He said, ‘Now stop worshiping your own power and money, now stop the war.’ The Pope appealed to leaders to adopt the path of dialogue and compromise and warned that religion should not be used to justify violence. He said that real power lies in protecting life, not in destroying it.
