Conch shell has a very high place in Hindu religion. The sound of conch is considered auspicious and sacred in worship, aarti and religious rituals. It is said that the conch shell originated during the churning of the ocean. Lord Vishnu is very fond of it, hence conch has a special place in his worship.

It is believed that keeping a conch shell in the house brings blessings of Gods and Goddesses. This maintains happiness, peace and prosperity in the house. But there are some special rules mentioned in Vaastu Shastra which if not followed can lead to inauspicious results instead of auspicious ones.

According to Vastu Shastra, the most auspicious direction to keep the conch is considered to be Ishan Kon (north-east direction). It should be kept near the home temple or place of worship. Keeping it in this direction brings positive energy to the house and increases wealth.

The conch shell should always be kept in a clean place. Whenever you blow the conch, wash it with clean water and then put it back. Keeping it in a dirty or dusty place can spread negative energy and affect the atmosphere of the house.

According to Vastu, the conch should never be kept directly on the ground. During puja, it is kept on a clean cloth or a small stand. The conch is considered a symbol of the gods, hence it is necessary to maintain its purity.

It is considered auspicious to keep the conch on the right side of the idol of Lord Vishnu, Mata Lakshmi or Bal Gopal. The open part of the conch should always be upwards. By doing this, positive vibrations increase in the house and Lakshmi’s blessings remain.

Keeping two conch shells in the house is considered auspicious. One for worship and the other for playing. The puja conch is used only for worship, while the other conch is kept for blowing.

If the south-west corner is dirty or empty, it weakens the stability and decision power of the head of the family, causing bottlenecks in the tasks and increases tension in the house. It is considered auspicious to have heavy furniture in this corner or a room of elders of the family.

If the north-east corner is closed, dark or full, it prevents the flow of mental peace, spiritual progress and positive energy. In this direction it is considered auspicious to have water elements like fountains or temples, but should avoid keeping shoes and slippers or junk.

There is a decline in the social reputation and honor of the person when there is a kitchen or toilet in the east. According to Vastu Shastra, this direction is a symbol of sun energy, and it is very important to keep it open and clean.

Having any kind of heavy items, pillar or ladder in the central part (Brahmasthan) of the house brings permanent obstacles in life. This place is the center of energy, and keeping it open and clean is essential for happiness and prosperity.

Due to more windows or doors in the west direction, economic instability and Lakshmi’s exit is considered to be out of the house. This direction is a symbol of durability and consequences, so it is beneficial to keep it closed and safe.

Any pillar, tree or ladder in front of the main gate of the house is considered to be a Vastu dosha, which prevents the flow of energy and can put the people of the house in a state of mental stress and decision confusion.

If the house has a slope from north-east to south-west, it is one of the biggest defects of Vastu, which causes serious problems in health, business and family life. The same slope should be height in the north-east and low in south-west.
