Harmful Chemicals In Cosmetics: A new study has raised concerns about cosmetics, plastics and some personal care products used during pregnancy. A joint research led by All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi has found that the amount of chemicals in the body of pregnant women is increasing, which can interfere with the normal functioning of hormones. Experts say that these chemicals can have a long-term impact on the health of the mother as well as the baby in the womb.

When are they used?

641 healthy pregnant women were included during the research. Their urine samples were tested at different stages of pregnancy to find out the presence of these chemicals in the body. The highest quantity of methylparaben was found in the test. It is a preservative which is commonly used in cosmetics, skin care products, lotions, shampoos and many other personal care products.

The amount of monoethyl phthalate is also high

Apart from this, researchers also found monoethyl phthalate in large quantities. This chemical is used in the manufacturing of plastic products and many items containing synthetic fragrances. According to scientists, both of these fall in the category of endocrine-disrupting chemicals, which can affect the hormonal system of the body.

Levels of these chemicals are highest during the second trimester

The study also revealed that the levels of these chemicals were found to be highest during the second trimester of pregnancy. According to AIIMS researcher Tarang Gupta, this is the time when the organs and body of the baby in the womb develop rapidly. In such a sensitive period, excessive exposure to chemicals that interfere with the functioning of hormones can have a negative impact on the child’s health in future.

Rajesh Khadgawat, professor in the endocrinology department of AIIMS, said that the birth weight, length and vitamin D levels of the newborn babies of women whose levels of these chemicals were high were also seen to be affected. However, he clarified that the current study points towards these relationships, but to fully establish this, large-scale and detailed research will be required.

Need to make strict rules

Experts: There is a need to make strict rules regarding the use and monitoring of these chemicals in India. Along with this, it is also important to inform pregnant women that excessive use of plastic and chemicals present in some cosmetic products can pose potential risks. In such a situation, as far as possible, choosing safe and less chemical personal care products can be a better option.

Cesarean Delivery Risk: The continuous cases of deaths and kidney failure reported from Kota Medical College in Rajasthan have increased the concern of the people. Amidst the news of women’s health deteriorating after cesarean delivery and many patients having to go to dialysis, the biggest question being raised is whether there is really a risk of kidney failure during C section. Regarding this, doctors say that cesarean delivery is not a normal procedure but a major surgery and if the infection spreads after the operation, the situation can become serious rapidly. In such a situation, let us now tell you whether there is really a risk of kidney failure during cesarean delivery.

Cases are continuously increasing in Kota

In the last few days, the health of many pregnant women has deteriorated in Kota’s New Medical College Hospital and JK Lone Hospital. So far, four women have died, while many women have faced problems like kidney failure and falling blood pressure. Some patients are undergoing treatment in dialysis and ICU. A team of expert doctors from Jaipur has also reached Kota to investigate the matter.

How does the risk of infection increase?

According to doctors, infection is the biggest risk after cesarean delivery. If bacteria spread in the body, they can reach the blood and then a condition of sepsis can arise in the body. When sepsis occurs, many parts of the body start getting affected and the first effect is seen on the kidneys. This is the reason why in some cases the kidneys of patients stop working. Experts say that during pregnancy and operation the body’s immunity is already weaker. Due to this the infection can spread rapidly. If there is no timely treatment and monitoring, the infection causes a sudden drop in blood pressure. Due to which sufficient blood does not reach the kidneys and the risk of kidney failure increases.

Also read- Summer Fungal Infection: Are you troubled by fungal infection in summer, leave these mistakes today itself.

Why is C section more sensitive than normal delivery?

According to doctors, in C section, several layers of the stomach and uterus are cut and the baby is taken out. This is the reason that compared to normal delivery, there is a higher risk of infection, excessive bleeding, blood clots and post-operative problems. Especially in women who have problems like anemia, diabetes, obesity or prolonged labor pain, the risk increases further. The risk is considered to be higher in cases of emergency cesarean.
