A van rammed into a crowd gathered for Pride celebrations in Berlin, Germany on Saturday, killing one person and injuring at least 16. After this incident the police had to stop the program. According to the Associated Press (AP) report, police said that the van entered the city’s Tiergarten Park. This was the same place from where the ‘Pride March’ had passed some time ago and after hitting many people, the van collided with a tree. Police said that some people were seriously injured.

Berlin Police officer Florian Nath said that a search is on for possible suspects. Police spokesman Alexander Clute later told the AP that authorities had not yet received any information about a possible motive for the incident. According to Reuters, emergency workers set up a helicopter landing pad near the Reichstag to help transport the injured to hospitals. Police said that some people have suffered life-threatening injuries. Ambulance and fire brigade teams were reaching the spot, so the police have asked the people present there to vacate the place immediately.

According to Reuters, a Berlin police spokesman said that the suspected attacker has been identified as a person associated with the city’s Islamist group, although no one has been arrested at the time of writing.
