Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced compensation for those killed and injured in the truck accident in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has announced that the next of kin of each person killed in the accident will be given Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF). Apart from this, an assistance amount of Rs 50 thousand will be given to the people injured in the accident.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared a post on social media platform X on Thursday (December 11, 2025) and expressed grief over the workers killed and injured in the accident. PM Modi said, ‘I am saddened by the loss of lives in the horrific accident that occurred in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh. My condolences are with the families of all the deceased. I wish speedy recovery of all the injured.

Truck carrying laborers fell into ditch

Actually, this heart-wrenching accident happened on Wednesday (December 10, 2025) near Metengliang on Hailong-Chaglagham road in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh. When a truck carrying laborers slipped from a dangerous mountain road and fell into a gorge thousands of feet deep. In this horrific incident, 22 laborers traveling in the truck died. At the same time, only one laborer could survive this horrific accident.

All the laborers were residents of Tinsukia, Assam.

The 22 laborers who lost their lives in this horrific accident were all residents of Gelapukhuri tea garden in Tinsukia district of Assam, who were going on contract to work at a site in Arunachal Pradesh. The road to reach the project site was full of dangerous sharp turns, steep descents and deep ravines, where all the laborers traveling in the truck died after the tire of the truck slipped.

Rescue team recovered 13 bodies

After this tragic accident on Wednesday (December 10, 2025), relief and rescue teams were immediately deployed. The rescue team recovered the bodies of about 13 laborers from the accident site. Meanwhile, the search is on to recover the bodies of the remaining workers. Teams of local police, district administration, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) as well as Indian Army are also involved in the rescue operation. The bodies of the workers whose bodies were recovered have been sent for post-mortem. Besides, his family members have also been informed.

The border dispute between India and China regarding Arunachal Pradesh is decades old, but adding to this dispute, a new case has come to light, in which a woman resident of Arunachal Pradesh has been severely tortured in China. The woman has alleged that the Chinese authorities had refused to accept her Indian passport as valid. Chinese officials detained and tortured the woman for 18 hours at Shanghai Airport.

Pema Wang Thongdok, a resident of Arunachal Pradesh, said that Chinese immigration officials detained her at the airport for 18 hours on Friday (November 21, 2025). He claimed that Arunachal Pradesh is a part of China, hence the Indian passport of a woman born in Arunachal is invalid. Actually, Pema Wang Thongdok was going from London to Japan on November 21, 2025, but in the meantime her plane stopped for three hours at Shanghai Airport in China, where Chinese officials stopped the woman and took her into custody.

The woman gave information about the incident on X

Pema Wang Thongdok, a resident of Arunachal Pradesh, posted about the incident in China on social media platform In the post, Pema said, ‘Due to China Immigration and China Eastern Airlines Corporation Limited, I was detained for more than 18 hours at Shanghai Airport on Friday (November 21, 2025). They declared my Indian passport invalid because my birthplace is in Arunachal Pradesh, which they declared to be Chinese territory.

According to Thongdok’s statement, Chinese immigration officials had declared his Indian passport invalid after seeing Arunachal Pradesh listed as his birthplace. After this, Chinese officials refused to recognize his Indian citizenship and said that Arunachal is a part of China. Chinese authorities also confiscated his passport and he was barred from boarding onward flights despite having a valid visa for Japan. At the same time, after an Indian woman was taken hostage at Shanghai Airport, Chinese officials tortured her by starving her for 18 hours.
