Police in Pakistan’s Punjab province have registered a case against a professional singer and his team for singing a song related to jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan during an event.

A Punjab Police spokesperson said on Monday, ‘A case has been registered against renowned Qawwal Faraz Amjad Khan and his team members for singing the song ‘Prisoner No. 804′ during a government-sponsored cultural program at Shalimar Garden in Lahore on Saturday night.’

He said the singer and his team tried to ‘provoke the public’ by giving a political color to the government-sponsored event as the song is related to jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan. According to the FIR, ‘There was a danger of inciting unrest and violence due to the controversial song.’

Singer made this appeal to Maryam Nawaz

The musical and cultural evening ‘Chandni Raatein’ was organized by the Lahore Authority. On the other hand, singer Faraz Amjad Khan requested Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to cancel the FIR lodged against him and said that he was threatened for singing this ‘pro-Imran song’.
