A 49-year-old visually impaired Christian man has been arrested on charges of blasphemy in Pakistan’s Punjab province. Police gave this information on Sunday (November 02, 2025). Nadeem Masih is accused of insulting Prophet Mohammed and if this allegation is proved then he can be sentenced to death.

Police officer Muhammad Yaqoob said, ‘Masih was recently arrested from Model Town Park in Lahore. A parking contractor told the police that Masih had insulted the Prophet. A case has been registered against Masih under section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code. His lawyer Javed Sahotra said that there are major discrepancies in the FIR, which will be challenged in the court and it is expected that Masih will get bail.

Will approach Lahore High Court

Speaking to the newspaper ‘International-Morning Star News’, Sahotra said that if Masih is not granted bail by the lower court, he will approach the Lahore High Court, which will definitely take these facts into consideration. Sahotra claimed that Masih, who has an iron rod in his right leg, was tortured by the police in custody.

Christ’s mother told the truth

Masih’s mother said that her son was often harassed by a parking contractor and his associates and that she had a dispute with Masih over money, which led to blasphemy charges against him. Pakistan’s blasphemy laws have been misused primarily to target religious minorities and to settle personal and economic disputes.

In an interview clip, Mirza claimed that a community calls Prophet Mohammed by a different name. During the conversation, he repeated the same words, which led to the controversy. After this, many religious organizations lodged a complaint and were arrested and sent to jail under Section 3 of MPO.

Criticism and controversy
Lahore lawyer J. Sajjal Shahedi said that Mirza has been arrested not to maintain public order but to suppress independent voices. He alleged that the government gives exemption to violent organizations but targets independent clerics like Mirza.
