Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi is the festival of Islam religion, which is celebrated in memory of the birth of Prophet Hazrat Mohammad Saheb and his teachings. According to the Islamic calendar, this festival comes on the 12th of the Rabi-ul-Awaal month. This year it took place on 5 September and on this day Muslims from all over the world are celebrating it with great pomp.

Why celebrate third Eid

The importance of this day is not only because it is the day of the birth of Prophet Mohammad Saheb, but it is also believed that he also died on this day. This is the reason why it is seen in two ways in Muslim society. Some people consider it a day of happiness and celebration, while some consider it an opportunity for mourning and introspection. This is its specialty, which makes it different from other Eids.

Eid-e-Milad is very important

Prophet Mohammed was born on the land of Mecca in about 570 AD. At that time the society was surrounded by darkness and evils. It is believed that the arrival of Prophet Sahab took place to remove the same darkness and to run humans on the path of truth, equality and justice. Because of this, his birthday is considered not just a celebration, but a symbol of a spiritual message.

There is only two Eid mention in Islam

In the religion of Islam, only two Eids are directly mentioned, the first Eid-ul-Fitr, called sweet Eid, and Eid-ul-Azha, ie Eid of Qurbani. But the birthday of Prophet Mohammad Saheb is so important that it has also been recognized as Eid. This year the importance of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi has increased further, as it is also an opportunity to complete 1500 years of the birth of Prophet Mohammad Saheb.

Overall, Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi is not just a religious festival, but to remember the teachings of faith, spirituality and Prophet Mohammad Saheb. This day reminds Muslims that the path of justice, kindness and equality is the message of real humanity.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted people on Friday (5 September 2025) on the occasion of Milad-un-Nabi. This festival is celebrated on the occasion of the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, the founder of Islam. Prime Minister Modi said in a post on ‘X’, “This holy day brought peace and prosperity in our society. Always guide us the values, service and justice. Happy Eid.”

Milad-un-Nabi Prophet-e-Islam is celebrated as the birthday of Hazrat Muhammad. This festival falls in the Rabi-al-Awaal, the third month of the Islamic calendar. Sunni Muslims consider 12 Rabi-al-Awaal to be the birthday of the Prophet. At the same time, Shia Muslims consider 17 Rabi-al-Awal as date of birth.

Best wishes on the evcation of milad-un-nabi.

May this Sacred day brings with it peace and well-being in our social. May the Values of Compassion, Service and Justice Always Us.

Eid Mubarak!

– Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) September 5, 2025

Meaning of Milad-un-Nabi
Milad-un-Nabi means the birth of the Prophet and it is also called Maulid in many places, which means giving birth. This day is an opportunity to remember the teachings of the Prophet and his life. Prophet Mohammed was born in Mecca in about 570 AD. He is considered the founder and final prophet of Islam. At the age of six, he was orphans and raised by grandfather and uncle. At the age of 40, he received the first message of Allah from the angel Jibril Alaihissalam in the diamond cave of Mecca. This message later became part of the Quran. The Prophet spent his entire life to spread the message of humanity.

In India and other countries
In countries like India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, processions are taken out, religious meetings are held and sweets are distributed in house to house. Countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar do not celebrate it, because there is a tradition of Wahabwad and Salafiism, which does not consider events like birthdays appropriate.

Message of Baravafat
Milad-un-Nabi is not a celebration of the Prophet’s birthday, but this day reminds us of the message of their simple lifestyle, compassion, brotherhood and monotheism. This festival is a symbol of advancing the education of humanity and equality.
