Shop only from trusted websites

For online shopping, always go to a trusted website only. Avoid shopping on any new or suspicious looking website due to the lure of links received in messages or attractive offers seen on social media.

Look for the lock icon in the URL

If you have doubts about any website, always check its URL carefully. There will be no spelling mistake in the URL of the original website and a lock icon will also be visible in it. The lock icon means that the site has Secure Sockets Layer encryption, making your data more secure than an unencrypted site.

Do not shop with debit card

Use only mobile payment app or credit card for online shopping. Never shop with debit card. If the debit card gets compromised then cyber criminals will get all the details of your bank account, due to which you will have to suffer huge loss.

Don’t shop on public Wi-Fi

If you are at a cafe, railway station or airport and using public Wi-Fi, then avoid online shopping. The reason for this is that public Wi-Fi has less security and the transactions done through it can be hacked. Therefore, always shop through a secured connection.

How to check fake SIM?

If there is a fake SIM in your name, then to avoid this problem, the Government of India has created a special website TAFCOP (Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection). With the help of this portal, you can know in just 1 minute how many and which SIM cards are running in your name. It is very important to know how many SIMs are active in your name because if someone has activated the SIM on your ID and it is being used for wrong purposes, then you can become responsible. Your name may appear in some fraud or scam. If multiple SIMs are running without your knowledge, then the data and privacy risk also increases. Also, only a maximum of 9 SIM cards can be activated on one ID.

1. First of all, go to the browser of your mobile or laptop and open the website https://tafcop.dgtelecom.gov.in/.

2. After this a box will appear on the home page, enter your mobile number in it.

3. Now fill the captcha code given below and click on Validate Captcha.

4. Now an OTP will come on your mobile, enter it and login.

5. After login, you will see the list of all the mobile numbers which are linked to your ID.

What to do if a number is not yours?

If you see a number in the list which you do not recognize or which you have not taken yourself, then select the Not My Number option given in front of that number and then click on the Report button. Now after registering the complaint, you will get a ticket ID or reference number. Also, your complaint will be investigated and if necessary, that fake SIM will be closed or removed from your ID.
