Nowadays, fitness no longer just means a thin waist or bulging muscles, but being healthy and energetic has also become equally important. Due to this desire, the number of youth going to the gym has increased rapidly and with them the trend of protein powder, shakes and supplements has increased. Many people spend thousands of rupees a month just on supplements, thinking that without them muscles cannot be built. But the question is whether expensive protein powder is really necessary to get a good body and strength. According to experts, if your diet is right and balanced then only by eating local food, your body can get plenty of protein, energy and strength.

Many protein powders available in the market provide instant energy, but excessive consumption for a long time can have adverse effects on the liver and kidneys. Apart from this, they are also quite expensive, hence the question arises whether there is any cheap, safe and natural option available. So let us know how powerful your plate is. Whether it has protein with desi food or not.

how powerful is your plate

Have you ever thought that the food that is on your plate every day becomes your real strength? In today’s time, people are resorting to expensive protein powder and supplements to stay fit, whereas the real health and strength is hidden in our desi food. Food items made from pulses, gram, kidney beans, vegetables, grains and milk, all together provide essential proteins, fibre, vitamins and minerals to the body. These nutrients strengthen the muscles, increase immunity and maintain energy in the body throughout the day.

If your plate includes dal-rice, roti-vegetable, curd or cheese, then understand that your diet is balanced. Especially beans like gram and kidney beans are excellent sources of natural protein, which give strength to the body without any harm. So next time you eat food, pay attention not only to the taste but also to the nutrition.
What problems can occur due to protein deficiency?

If the body does not get enough protein, many problems can arise. Like nails start breaking quickly, immune system becomes weak, falling sick frequently, mood swings and difficulty in thinking, weakness in muscles and risk of fracture due to weak bones.

Make up for protein deficiency with these things

If you do not want to take supplements, then include some natural things in your diet. Such as pulses, beans and peas, milk, curd, dairy products like cheese, eggs, fish and lean meat, seeds and nuts, soy products like tofu and tempeh.

A balanced diet is very important for a healthy and fit body. It should contain proteins, vitamins, carbs, fats and minerals in the right quantity. In such a situation, the role of protein is very important in repairing the cells and tissues present in the body. That is why people pay maximum attention to protein in their diet.

In such a situation, people generally prefer non-veg food for protein, but most of those who do not eat non-veg consider pulses as a good source of protein. But recently the gastroenterologist of Fortis has told that pulses are not a good source of protein and those who eat them thinking so are absolutely wrong. Let us know whether pulses are really a better source of protein?

Why are pulses not a good source of protein?

Dr. Shubham Vatsya, gastroenterologist and hepatologist of Fortis Hospital, Vasant Kunj, who is an expert in diet and food, posted a video on his Instagram and said that pulses are not a good source of protein. She says that “if you think of lentils as a rich source of protein, then you are wrong” because lentils do not contain essential amino acids. Therefore it is not able to fulfill the protein requirement of the body.

How much protein is there in lentils?

Dr. Vatsya says that pulses contain some protein but it is not enough for the body. 24 grams of protein is found in 100 grams of raw lentils, which is less than the protein found in 100 grams of chicken. If we talk about cooked pulses, one bowl of cooked pulses contains 5 grams of protein and 100 grams of raw pulses makes 4 to 5 bowls of pulses. In such a situation, you will have to eat 5 bowls of pulses to get 25 grams of protein, which is generally impossible.

What is the better option instead of pulses?

The cells present in the body need protein to be repaired. In such a situation, you can eat many more protein rich things instead of pulses. Non-vegetarian people can eat fish, egg and chicken, whereas vegetarians should eat more things like milk, curd and cheese for protein.
