The Indian Air Force said on Friday (April 17) night that the runway of Pune airport has been temporarily closed following an incident involving one of their aircraft. The statement further said that efforts are being made for smooth operation of the runway.

“Due to an incident involving an Indian Air Force aircraft, the runway at Pune is temporarily unavailable,” the Indian Air Force said in a post on social media. The aircraft crew is safe and there is no damage to civilian property. Efforts are underway to reopen the runway as soon as possible and resume normal operations, the statement added.

What did the police say about the incident related to the plane?
A senior police officer said that an Air Force plane had a hard landing, but he did not give any other information beyond this. According to Pune International Airport officials, at around 10:25 pm, a fighter plane developed a malfunction while landing, due to which the runway was blocked.

“According to the Indian Air Force ATC, it will take four-five hours to restore the situation on the runway and restore normal operations,” he said. Minister of State for Aviation Muralidhar Mohol confirmed the suspension of runway operations at the airport.

“Thankfully, the aircraft crew is safe and there is no damage to civilian property,” Minister of State for Aviation Muralidhar Mohol said in a post on Twitter. Airlines have been informed and it may take about five hours for normal operations to be restored on the runway. “I am in constant touch with the airport director and Air Force officials to ensure the situation is resolved as soon as possible,” he said.
