Heavy rains in Punjab and water released from dams have spoiled the situation. Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers are in their spate and seasonal drains are also becoming a threat. This is directly impacting the villages and towns of many districts of the state. The villages have been flooded, the fields have been submerged and the everyday life of the people has been filled with difficulties. In view of the situation, the administration has issued an order to close schools in many districts.

School closed for two days in Hoshiarpur

Hoshiarpur Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain has ordered the closure of all government and private schools in the district on 26 and 27 August in view of the situation of heavy rains and waterlogging. He clearly said that safety of children and teachers is a priority.

Many roads have been submerged due to rain and the way to school has become difficult. The Meteorological Department has predicted more rain in the coming days, so instructions have already been given to be vigilant.

Holiday in all educational institutions in Pathankot

Pathankot district administration has also taken a similar step. In view of the continuous rains and rising water levels of rivers, on August 26, all educational institutions have been ordered to be closed.

According to Deputy Commissioner Aditya Uppal, this decision has been taken for the safety of children. The water level of Ujh and Ravi rivers in Pathankot has reached a dangerous level, due to which water has started entering the villages near the Indo-Pak border.

Danger bell in 20 villages of Fazilka

The condition of Fazilka district is more serious. The administration has issued an order here that all schools in 20 villages on the banks of the Sutlej river will be closed from 26 to 28 August. The villages where the holiday has been declared includes areas like Muhar Jamsher, Teja Ruhela, Donna Nanka, Mahatam Nagar and Ram Singh Bhaini.

Due to continuous rains here, the water level of the river has increased and flood -like conditions have been created. The administration has also ordered to install ‘Thikari Pailder’. This means that the villagers themselves will be vigilant and will take immediate action in any emergency.

Alert also in Amritsar

Amritsar district administration has also ordered to keep all the schools of Ajnala and Riya closed on 26 August. Here too, there is a danger of floods due to increasing water level in Beas and Ravi rivers.

Things worsened due to water filling in fields and villages

The water of the Beas river was filled in the fields of Motala, Halher Janardan, Sania, Kolis and Mehtabpur on Sunday evening. The reason for this is being said to be heavy rains in Pathankot’s mill Khad area. Suddenly the water level of the river increased and water started flowing over the dams. Due to this, the crops of farmers have been badly affected.

Government is assessing the loss

The Punjab government has already announced a special ‘Girdawari’ to assess the damage caused in flood affected areas. This will include crop damage and property loss. Preparations are underway to give compensation to the affected farmers and families.
