US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Tuesday (26 May 2026) that the Quad group is no longer just a talking platform but it is becoming an ‘action-oriented’ platform. Here all four countries come together to discuss common issues and then start taking action on them.

At the beginning of the Quad Foreign Ministers’ meeting held in New Delhi on Tuesday, Rubio said that attending the Quad meeting immediately after taking the oath shows America’s strong commitment to this group. He said that I want to thank S. Jaishankar and the Indian government, who hosted us. Not only for this bilateral visit, but also for this important meeting. I would also like to thank Toshi and Penny for coming here and participating in this. This is happening at a critical time. When I became the Foreign Minister, my first official meeting was with the Quad and this clearly shows our commitment.”

Focus on action rather than talk

Marco Rubio said, “Our goal over the past year has been to make this forum not just a place where we talk about problems together, but a forum where we actually do something. I think we can tell our respective people that we are moving very quickly and effectively in this direction. The areas in which we are working together today have become even more important because of recent world events. Therefore, today we will make further progress towards making our relations more practical.” Rubio said that together the four countries have the ability to tackle many of the world’s biggest problems, such as humanitarian aid, security of sea lanes, energy security, and strengthening essential minerals and supply chains from different sources.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the most special thing about the Quad is not only that it is a group of four strategic partner countries who come together to talk about their common interests, but also that it is gradually becoming a platform where we are starting to work together. All four countries bring their own distinct strengths and together we can help solve many of the world’s biggest problems. Be it humanitarian aid, energy security, freedom of sea lanes or making the supply chains of energy and essential minerals more diverse. The Quad includes Australia, India, Japan and America. Its objective is to increase cooperation in areas like maritime security, strengthening supply chains, essential minerals, infrastructure development, disaster relief and new technologies.

The issue of Hormuz dominated the QUAD meeting held in Delhi. The foreign ministers of the countries included in this organization discussed opening the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible. This meeting of QUAD has given a message of tension to Iran. Actually, in this meeting there was discussion on opening of Hormuz and passage of ships without any hindrance.

In the joint press conference after the meeting, S Jaishankar said that there are many challenges before us today. The supply chain is affected at the global level. Along with this he said that we have zero tolerance against terrorism.

Current situation of the world was discussed in QUAD

After the meeting of the foreign ministers of the Quad, a joint press release was also issued. In which it was said, ‘An important meeting of the foreign ministers of Quad has taken place. Most of the discussions in this meeting focused on the latest situation in the world. Being a Quad, we focused on the issues of the Indo Pacific region. Since we are four maritime democracies located on different sides of the Indo Pacific region, the exchange of ideas was important.

Expanding cooperation in maritime sector: QUAD

It said, ‘Cooperation in the maritime domain has continuously expanded, including surveillance and area awareness, logistics networks, submarine cables, training, capacity building and disaster risk reduction (HADR) activities. We will strengthen these areas further in the coming times.

Consensus reached among all four foreign ministers on global supply chain: QUAD

QUAD foreign ministers said, ‘We talked about the issue of safe and unimpeded maritime trade and reiterated the importance of strictly following international law. All four of our nations are market economies. We strongly believe that economic resilience should be promoted. Supply chains should be strengthened, reliable and safe engineering should be disseminated, production capacities should be increased. In our discussions, the energy sector and availability of fertilizers in today’s times were also discussed.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has said that India is always concerned about Pakistan, especially about terrorist organizations operating from Pakistani soil. However, he also clarified that India has not expressed any objection to Pakistan’s role as mediator.

Marco Rubio was talking to the media on Monday (May 25, 2026). He is on a four-day visit to India and will also participate in the meeting of Quad Foreign Ministers to be held on Tuesday. During this, he was asked whether India has expressed any concern over Pakistan’s mediating role in matters related to Iran.

On the question related to Pakistan’s mediating role, Rubio said that India has been raising the issue for a long time that terrorist groups target India from Pakistani territory. He said that this concern of India always remains, but India has not made any complaint regarding Pakistan’s mediating role in the Iran issue.

Why did Rubio speak on India-US relations?

Marco Rubio said, ‘India is always concerned about the fact that armed terrorist groups operate from Pakistan’s soil, but as far as Pakistan’s role in the Iran issue is concerned, this issue has never come up.’ Rubio described India as one of America’s most important strategic partners. He said that the relations between the two countries are strong and by the end of the current US administration, these relations can be stronger than before.

He also responded to India’s concerns about America’s increasing contact with Pakistan’s military. Rubio said that America works with many countries of the world at different levels and India also does the same, but this will not affect the India-America strategic partnership.

Pakistan’s role is important in ceasefire

At present, Pakistan has emerged as an important mediator in the ongoing war between America and Iran. According to reports, Pakistan played an important role in the temporary ceasefire between America and Iran. Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir also recently visited Iran. US President Donald Trump also praised Pakistan and said that he approved the ceasefire as a favor.

He praised Pakistan Prime Ministers Shahbaz Sharif and Asim Munir. Trump described Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as his very good friend and said that India can trust him 100 percent. This statement was given over a phone call during an event organized at Bharat Mandapam, in which External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and US Ambassador Sergio Gore were also present.

India US Relations: Just before his upcoming visit to India, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has given a big statement. Venezuelan oil will also be discussed
Marco Rubio made another big announcement during this period. He told that Venezuela’s interim President Delsey Rodriguez is also visiting India next week, where she will discuss the issue of selling oil to India. It is noteworthy that US President Donald Trump had mentioned for the first time in the beginning of February this year about India buying oil from Venezuela. At the same time, an important trade agreement was announced between Washington and New Delhi, under which the reciprocal tariff on Indian imports was reduced from the current 25 percent to 18 percent.

Rubio will be in India from 23 to 26 May
The US Secretary of State will be on a visit to India from May 23 to May 26. During his four-day visit, he will visit New Delhi, Kolkata, Agra and Jaipur. Interestingly, Marco Rubio will be the first US Secretary of State to visit Kolkata in almost 14 years. Before him, in 2012, the then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had visited Kolkata. Let us tell you that the US Consulate General located in Kolkata is the second oldest US Consulate in the world.

Quad meeting will be held on 26 May
A meeting of foreign ministers of Quad countries has been fixed on the last day of this tour i.e. 26th May. This meeting was chaired by India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar will do. Along with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japan’s Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu will also attend the meeting.

Quad countries jointly announced a new initiative, which is named Quad Critical Minerals Initiative. Its purpose is to make the mineral supply chain safe and diverse so that the four countries together can strengthen economic security and collective self -reliance. It was called an ambitious expansion of our partnership.

Business agreement expected
Prior to the meeting, Jaishankar had said that the Indo-US trade talks are progressing and some concessions will be necessary to find a middle way. On the other hand, US President Donald Trump said that the US can make a trade agreement with India, which will benefit American companies and face less tariffs in India. However, he raised doubts over the deal with Japan to a time limit.
