‘Tusshar Kapoor is not even my friend’

While talking to Hindi Rush, Radhika said, ‘There were reports of my and Tusshar’s affair. This is a very old rumour. I was learning dance in London. And articles were coming in the paper that I am celebrating Valentine’s Day in Goa with Tusshar Kapoor. I was a student. I was eating butter and bread because there was no money. My roommate and I were sitting and reading the article and laughing. I did not have Tushar’s phone number and what am I doing in Goa with Tushar. I am not even Tushar’s friend. I worked in the film Shor in the City. Later I came to know that this was a marketing strategy. But I didn’t know that at that time.

Let us tell you that Tusshar Kapoor and Radhika Apte had worked together in the film ‘Shor in the City’. This film was released in 2011. Romantic scenes of both were also shown in the film. After this, news of their affair started doing the rounds.

Radhika had talked about this earlier also. She had said, ‘I was in London and was learning dance. The song Saibo became a hit and they called me back for promotion. So he had spread the linkup rumor between me and Tushar. This was not true at all.

Radhika was asked what she would do to make the film industry more friendly for parents. She said- ‘I will be the first to change my working hours. You cannot expect someone to stay without seeing their child for a whole week. I have had several conversations and debates over his refusal to work long shifts. You will be surprised how much battle has to be fought for this. I find it very strange and people say to hire a nanny and bring her to the set. Sorry, but that’s not really the answer.

Radhika also talked about her non-negotiable conditions while signing the script. She said- ‘She would like a five-day working week and 12-hour shifts. He said- Now I have started adamant on my point and many people have not liked it. I cannot work more than 12 hours a day and this includes travel, hair, make-up and shooting. If my journey takes two hours, my shift will have to be planned accordingly. Of course, there may be some exceptions to this, but this is my non-negotiable condition.

She further said- ‘I insist on weekly off and ideally do not want to work more than five days a week. Unless it’s a small film where the project really can’t work without it. I would prefer five days a week and 12-hour shifts.

I was in the first trimester of my pregnancy, I felt hungry again and again, and I was eating more things like rice or pasta. The actress said that despite pain and my uncomfortable, the producer did not even allow the doctor to meet the doctor.

However, Radhika was also working on the international project during that time, for which she praised the producer and said- ‘A Hollywood filmmaker supported me a lot. When I told him that I am eating more and can change my look till the end of the shooting, he laughed and said, ‘Don’t worry, even if you change completely till the end of this project, then there is no problem, because you are pregnant.’ His support matters a lot to me.

Radhika said that she understands professional responsibilities well, and always respects her. He said- ‘But at that time a little sympathy is very useful. I was not expecting special behavior from anyone, just wanted a little humanity and understanding. Wanted people to understand this happiness a little.

Radhika met Benedict Taylor in 2011 in London, when she was on a year break and went to learn a contemporary dance. Both of them married in 2013, and in December 2024, Radhika gave birth to a daughter.
