Maharashtra Government has changed the name of Aurangabad Railway Station to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Railway Station. This decision has been taken in honor of the son of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Aurangabad city and railway station were named after the first Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. This decision has been taken on the recommendation of Maharashtra Government.

Aurangabad railway station was built in 1900 and was built by Mir Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad. This station is situated on the Kacheguda-Manmad section. The government had issued a gazette notification on October 15 to formalize this name change. From now on, the new name of the station will be used in passengers and administrative documents only – Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

Approval given on the recommendation of Maharashtra Government

According to Railways, this decision was taken after the recommendation of Maharashtra Government and approval of Home Ministry. The new name of the station has been kept as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar with the aim of honoring the bravery and historical contribution of Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Railway officials said that after this change, all the information and tickets will be issued according to the new name. An official said that the Railways has completed all the necessary administrative procedures. Now the name of the station ‘Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar’ will be heard on all platforms and trains.

Earlier, the Central Government had also approved renaming Aurangabad city as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in 2022. Now with the renaming of the railway station, this process has been completed and the name of both the city and the station has become in line with the historical respect.

The Railways, while taking strictness on this, has made it clear that doing video or photography without permission is a punishable offense under the Indian Railway Act. If caught, there can be a fine of thousands of rupees and jail.

Strict action of railway

According to railway officials, in recent times, the trend of making the track and reel at the station has increased. This not only puts their lives at risk. Rather, the risk of accidents also increases. People making such videos endanger themselves and others. Many times incidents of hitting the train have also come to the fore.

How much can be fined?

Railways has clarified that if a person is caught making a reel in the track or station premises, then he can be fined from Rs 1,000 to 5000. Not only this, the guilty can also be jailed for three to 6 months. Along with this, the railway administration can also register an FIR and arrest them.

Where to make a reel completely banned?

According to the railway manual, videography or photography without permission in railway tracks, platforms and trains is completely banned. Apart from this, shooting cannot be done in historical heritage, government buildings and sensitive areas without written permission. At the same time, written permission and fees are mandatory from the Railway Board or CPRO of the concerned zone for commercial shooting.

What on shooting without permission Get Punishment ?

Under the Railway Act 1989, shooting and jail can be punished for shooting without permission at any railway track or railway station. According to Section 66E of the IT Act 2000, a video or photo of someone can be imprisoned for up to 3 years or a fine of up to Rs 2 lakh. If someone is recording porn or emergency content, then strict action can be taken under Section 67 of the IT Act.

Meanwhile, a fellow passenger Hafeezul Rahman slapped him.

In the video, Rahman can be seen attacking Mazumdar and when he was questioned, he said that he did this because he was getting upset because of him. Rehman was detained and handed over to the police after the flight reached Kolkata, but was later released.

What did the victim’s father Abdul Mannan Majumdar tell?

32 -year -old Mazumdar, who works in a hotel in Mumbai, has taken flying from this route several times before and his family was unaware that something has happened. Those people reached Silchar Airport on Friday to pick up Hussain. His father Abdul Mannan Mazumdar said that after watching the viral video, he tried to contact him, but his mobile phone was closed.

After this, the family lodged a missing complaint and the investigation revealed that Majumdars did not board the flight going to Silchar on Friday and did not even go to Kolkata Airport on Saturday. The police then received information that he was at Barpeta railway station and the police found him there. An official said that he looked unwell and is now being taken home.

Meanwhile, IndiGo, who slapped Rahman, has been banned from flying on any aircraft operated by the airline and said that the safety of our customers and crew is our top priority.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told the Rajya Sabha on Friday (August 1, 2025) that the main reason for the stampede at New Delhi railway station on February 15 this year was a fall of heavy belongings from the head of a passenger, after which the chaos took the form of a stampede and 18 people were killed and 15 people were injured in this painful accident.

The Railway Minister said that a high level committee created to investigate this incident has submitted its report. The report said that the accident took place on the stairs of the foot over bridge-3 connecting platform number 14/15 at around 8:48 pm. A large number of devotees were present at the New Delhi railway station to board the trains going to Prayagraj at the time of the accident.

‘Many passengers were walking with heavy stuff on their heads’

According to the report, many passengers were walking with heavy luggage on the head, causing the passengers to walk smoothly on the foot over bridge and during this time heavy items fell from a passenger’s head, which increased the pressure on the stairs and the passengers started falling on each other. The report said that this stampede was limited to the stairs of platform number 14/15.

Let us tell you that 18 people lost their lives in this accident, including 11 women and 4 children. After this, five senior officials of the railway, including the DRM of Delhi Division, were transferred.

The Railway Minister also informed that many steps have been taken by the Railways to ensure that such an incident does not happen again in future. Now the railway has decided to appoint ‘station directors’ at 73 major railway stations in the crowded country. The station directors will also have the rights that to reduce the congestion at the station, they will be able to take ‘on the spot’ on the spot and immediately like the availability and capacity of the train can limit the sale of tickets so that the pressure on the platform does not increase.

‘Permanent holding area outside 73 stations’
Apart from this, the work of creating a permanent holding area outside 73 stations is also being done. Currently, a pilot project is going on for Permanent Holding Area on five stations New Delhi, Anand Bihar, Ghaziabad, Ayodhya, Varanasi. Passengers with confirmed tickets will have an entry on the platform directly, while passengers without tickets and waiting tickets will have to stay in the holding area until the train comes on the platform.

Apart from this, 12 meters wide and 6 meters wide fob is being done to improve the railway foot over bridge to improve crowd management. CCTV surveillance, walkie-talki, announcement system and war room are also being arranged at stations for crowd management.

Station directors will be appointed at major railway stations
The Railway Minister said that after the incident, many important steps have been taken for mob management. Permanent holding areas will be built at 73 railway stations across the country. The pilot project has started in New Delhi, Anand Vihar, Varanasi, Ayodhya and Ghaziabad.

He said that two new standard foot over bridge designs for mob management have been developed for 12 meters (40 feet) and 6 meters (20 ft) width. These include ramps, which proved to be effective in crowd control during Mahakumbh. Now these wide FOBs will be installed at all big stations.

Apart from this, a senior officer will be appointed station director at all major railway stations, who will lead all departments and will be empowered by financial rights to take quick decisions in emergency.
