On the very next day of the Pahalgam attack, on 23 April, the three wings of the country’s Army (Army, Air Force and Navy) were ready for the operation against Pakistan. This disclosure has been made by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh himself. Rajnath Singh himself said that till 3-4 months ago no one had even thought about the war.

Addressing a program of civil-employees of the Ministry of Defense held in the capital Delhi, Rajnath Singh said that for the first time in the history of independent India, it happened that army chiefs had demanded any kind of weapon or no complaint before performing a big operation.

All three army chiefs agreed to war

The Defense Minister said that the next day of the Pahalgam attack, when the three army chiefs discussed further strategy and asked if the armies of the country are ready for the operation against Pakistan. The three army chiefs immediately agreed to the operation.

It is worth noting that for the 1971 war, the then Army Chief General (later Field Marshal) Sam Manekshaw sought 6 months time for preparations. Even during the Kargil war, the then Army Chief General VP Malik had given a statement with the weapons that will fight the war. That is, General Malik objected to not being a modern weapon.

The support of the country behind the bravery of the army

Calling the civil-defense employees of the Ministry of Defense, Rajnath Singh said that ‘Whenever the army fights war, behind its valor, in a way, the whole country is supported. A soldier fights war, but in a way the whole country and the entire system are fighting war with that soldier. That is why I am discussing the subject of war with you, because your contribution in the strategy of war and its preparation is very important.

The Defense Minister said that the importance of civil-militant coordination has increased in today’s time, because today’s world has become very uncertain. Today we cannot guess that there will be no tension in future areas of the world where there is peace. Think for yourself, three-four months ago, where did we think that we will have to do operation vermilion sometime. Where did we think that circumstances like war will stand at our door.

Army got back-end support

Rajnath Singh said that during Operation Sindoor, we saw how you (civil employees) also gave back-end support to our army. Different departments of the Ministry of Defense also played all their roles well, due to which we could carry out such successful operations.

During this, Rajnath Singh took a dig at and said that there is hardly any position in the government, which I have not played, whether here (Ministry of Defense) or Ministry of Home Affairs, except one up to one, i.e. PMO.

Rajnath singh in sco meeting: Just five years after the clash of the Galwan Valley (June 2020), a senior minister of India is going on a tour of China. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is going to Chingdao in China to participate in the meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) (June 25-26). During this time, Rajnath Singh will also hold a meeting with the defense ministers of China and Russia.

According to the Ministry of Defense, a high-level delegation of India along with Rajnath Singh is also going to China to attend the SCO conference. Several issues are expected to be discussed in the SCO meeting including regional and international peace and security, anti -terrorism efforts and cooperation between SCO member countries.

Rajnath Singh will raise the issue of terrorism and extremism

In this meeting, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will call for joint efforts to express India’s commitment to SCO’s principles, underlines India’s vision for international peace and security, to end terrorism and extremism in the region. With this, we will emphasize the need for more trade, economic cooperation and contact between the countries involved in the SCO. According to the Ministry of Defense, Rajnath Singh, China and Russia will also hold bilateral meetings with the Ministers of Defense countries.

There was tension between India and China in the Galwan Valley

Since the clashes of the Galwan Valley, there was tremendous tension between India and Chinese forces on the Line of Actual Control/LAC adjacent to East Ladakh. In the last year i.e. October 2024, however, the disagreement agreement was signed, under which the forces of the two countries withdrew from the disputed areas. In such a situation, the relationship was seen coming on track.

Doval also met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during this period. At the same time, on Tuesday (June 24), the first batch of Indian pilgrims reached Kailash Mansarovar. The SCO formed in 2001 is an inter-governmental organization. India became its full member in the year 2017 and headed it in 2023. SCO members include Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Belarus. China has headed the SCO for the year 2025 under the theme of ‘SCO’ ‘continuity of Shanghai spirit’.

However, the possibility of meeting Pakistan Defense Minister Khwaja Asif during the SCO meeting in China is not visible at all. Because the tension between the two countries has continued since the Pahalgam attack (22 April) and Operation Sindoor (6-10 May).

According to the Ministry of Defense, India gives special importance to the SCO in promoting multilateralism, political, security, economic and mutual contact between people. The SCO follows its policy based on sovereignty, nations based on the principles of nations, non -interference in internal affairs, mutual respect, understanding and equality of all member countries.
