According to the Panchang, the festival of Rakshabandhan is celebrated every year on the day of Sawan Purnima, which is falling on Saturday 9 August 2025 this year. The festival of Rakshabandhan is not only a symbol of tying a yarn (thread) but also a strong relationship between brother and sister.

While tying a rakhi on the brother’s wrist on the day of Rakshabandhan, the sister has to take care of many things like auspicious time, right method, proper direction etc. Because the mistakes made inadvertently create a rift in relationships. Therefore, do not make any such mistake on this holy day. Know the necessary rules related to Rakshabandhan.

Keep in mind the Muhurta- Do not tie a rakhi at any time on the day of the reservation, but only in the auspicious time it is advisable to tie a rakhi on the brother’s wrist. Auspicious time to tie rakhi on the day of Rakshabandhan (Rakhi Bandhne Ka Muhurat) will be from 05:47 am to 01:24 in the morning.

Keep these things in the plate (Rakshabandhan Thali)- Prepare the plate well before tying the rakhi. Make sure that the plate of worship must have things like Akshat, lamp, ghee, sweets, rakhi, coconut, roli and water etc. Without these things, the plate of Rakshabandhan is considered incomplete.

Keep in mind Bhadra and Rahukaal- On the day of Rakshabandhan, the brother should avoid tying rakhi during Rahukaal and Bhadrakal (Bhadra). Both these Muhurtas are considered inauspicious to tie rakhi. Please tell that this year, Bhadra will not be shared on Raksha Bardhan. But on August 9, there is Rahukkal from 09:00 to 10:30 in the morning.

Keep in mind the direction- While tying the rakhi, also keep in mind the right direction. Rakhi should not be tied by facing south direction. To tie rakhi, it is considered auspicious to face Vastu and Vastu according to the east or north direction.

Do not use this color- Black color is considered inauspicious in Hinduism. In Vastu Shastra it is associated with negativity. Therefore, on the day of Rakshabandhan, brothers and sisters should not wear black clothes and do not tie a black rakhi on the brother’s wrist.
