A four-year-old girl was molested in Tarakeshwar area of ​​Hooghly district of West Bengal late night on Friday (7 November 2025). According to the police, the victim was sleeping with her grandmother in a mosquito net under the railway shed, when some unknown person cut the mosquito net and abducted the girl.

The family told that they belong to the Banjara community. They were living temporarily in the railway shed as their house was demolished by the administration. The next day in the afternoon, the girl was found naked and soaked in blood near Tarakeshwar Railway High Drain. “She was sleeping next to me,” said the girl’s grandmother, who showed a torn mosquito net. Someone took him at around 4 in the morning. I didn’t even know. They cut the mosquito net and took her away; when they found her, she was naked.” After the incident, the victim has been admitted to Tarakeshwar Rural Hospital, where her condition is said to be critical.

Police registered a case, investigation continues under POCSO Act

A senior officer of Hooghly Rural Police said that an FIR has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO) in connection with the incident. The police team has collected forensic evidence from the incident site. The process of scanning the footage of CCTV cameras installed nearby has been started. The police officer said that we are investigating from every angle. Based on initial evidence the culprit will be identified soon. However, the victim’s family has alleged that the local police initially delayed in registering the FIR, after which the case was registered due to increasing pressure.

BJP accused Mamta government

BJP leader and leader of opposition in the assembly, Subhendu Adhikari launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s government. The victim told her aunt how pressure was put on her in the hospital where she worked. The victim’s aunt said, “We raised her since childhood and bore the expenses of her education. She was under a lot of work pressure, hence she took this step. Just two days ago, she had told that her seniors at work were harassing her.”

Accused policeman suspended

Satara Superintendent of Police Tushar Doshi said, “A case has been registered against Gopal Badane and Prashant Bankar on charges of rape and abetment of suicide. The accused sub-inspector has been suspended and police teams are busy searching for both the accused. This matter will be thoroughly investigated and strict action will be taken.”

In the case on which this disputed decision of the Allahabad High Court came, 2 accused had sections 376 (rape), 18 (attempt of crime) and sections of the Poxo Act. Justice Ram Manohar Narayan Mishra, who gave a decision on the case, recorded the facts of the incident with an 11 -year -old girl. His conclusion was that this is a case of trauma on the dignity of the woman. Can not call it an attempt to rape or rape.
