Senior party leader and Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor has reacted to the uproar created by the post of Congress Rajya Sabha MP and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh. Shashi Tharoor supported the views of his party colleague Digvijay Singh and said that the organization should be strengthened.

Shashi Tharoor said this during the 140th Foundation Day program of the party organized on Sunday (December 28, 2025) at the Congress Headquarters. During the event, Tharoor was sitting next to Digvijay Singh at the party’s Indira Bhawan headquarters and shared views with the senior leader.

Digvijay Singh had given a statement regarding PM Modi

Digvijay Singh created a political stir on Saturday (December 27, 2025) when he praised the organizational strength of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). While sharing an old picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he had said how a grassroots worker, learning by sitting at the feet of his leaders, became the Chief Minister and then the Prime Minister.

Digvijay Singh said after the controversy over the statement

During this, he also raised the issue of strengthening the Congress organization at the grassroots level and said that this is very important to compete with the ruling BJP and remove it from power. A day after the controversy over the statement, Digvijay Singh said that he has said whatever he had to say. He said, ‘I have been with the Congress Party for 50 years and I have fought these communal forces in the Assembly, Parliament or organization.’

He claimed, ‘I have fundamental disagreement with him and I oppose his ideology. I have fought against such people and will continue to fight. When asked to comment on his statement given on Saturday (December 27, 2025), he said, ‘Every organization needs strength.’

Shashi Tharoor spoke on Digvijay Singh’s statement

When Shashi Tharoor was asked to comment on this issue, he said, ‘The organization should be strengthened, there is no doubt about it.’ When asked about sitting next to Digvijay Singh and discussing this topic between the two, Tharoor said, ‘We keep talking to each other, we are friends and keep talking to each other.’

He told journalists, ‘Today is the 140th foundation day of Congress. This is a very important occasion for the party. This is the day when we remember our glorious history and the contribution of the party to the country.

Shashi Tharoor posted on X

At the same time, Shashi Tharoor said in a post on social media platform X, ‘Today is the 140th anniversary of the establishment of the Indian National Congress (INC). This is the same organization which played a decisive role in leading India’s freedom struggle from British rule.

He said, ‘From its first convention in the year 1885 till today, the Congress Party has remained a strong cornerstone of the country’s democratic journey and political development. Today this occasion was celebrated with solemnity and mutual harmony at Indira Bhawan.

Other leaders of Congress Party also reacted

Meanwhile, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate said, ‘I feel that BJP is distorting the essence of Digvijay’s post. We do not need to learn anything from the Sangh, which spreads hatred and takes inspiration from the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi’s murderer (Nathuram) Godse.

Shrinet claimed, ‘We are the Indian National Congress and we fought the freedom struggle against the injustice and exploitation of the British rule and converted it into a mass movement. We do not need to learn anything from anyone, rather others should learn from us.

At the same time, senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid said, ‘There is a lot in Congress and others should learn from Congress only. We have absolutely no need to learn from RSS, because we oppose that ideology. While another leader Rajeev Shukla said, ‘The roots of this party are so deep that they can never be erased.’

On the occasion of completion of 100 years of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, major changes are going to take place in its functioning. The organization is going to change the structure of provincial campaigners. For this, a proposal has been made, according to which now there will be no provincial campaigners in the Sangh, but there will be divisional campaigners in their place. The scope of work of these divisional campaigners will be less than that of the provincial campaigners.

What changes are to take place under the new structure?

In this new structure, every state will have a state campaigner. A division of the union will be formed by merging about two government divisions (commissionership). For example, the Union has currently divided Uttar Pradesh into 6 provinces, Braj, Awadh, Meerut, Kanpur, Kashi and Goraksh, but from the administrative point of view, there are currently 18 divisions (commissionerships) in UP. In this way, 9 division campaigners will remain in UP and there will be one state campaigner for the entire UP. Whereas at present 6 provincial campaigners are fulfilling their responsibilities. At the same time, the number of field campaigners will also reduce.

There will be a field campaigner from UP and Uttarakhand

Along with the area campaigner of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, there is one area campaigner combining West Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Now instead of these two area campaigners, there will be only one area campaigner who will look after the work of entire UP and Uttarakhand, while the state campaigners of these two states will remain separate. Similarly, currently there is one area campaigner for the entire Rajasthan and separate area campaigners for the North region (Delhi, Jammu-Kashmir, Himachal, Haryana, Punjab), but now in this region Rajasthan will also be merged from the Sangh point of view and there will be one area campaigner for the entire region.

Instead of 11, 9 area campaigners will be left.

At present there are 11 area pracharaks in the Sangh. After which only 9 area campaigners will be left and there will be around 75 division campaigners in the entire country. At the same time, the number of field campaigners will also reduce in this composition. Around 2 area campaigners will be reduced to 9 area campaigners.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Sunday (November 09, 2025) that the Sangh is not a supporter of any political party. He only supports policies, not parties. Speaking at an event on completion of 100 years of RSS in Bengaluru, he said that if Congress had stood in favor of Ram temple in Ayodhya, the volunteers would have voted for Congress also. He answered in detail on many issues including the participation of Muslims in RSS, the organization not being registered and Congress’s criticisms on the tricolor.

Sangh does not take part in electoral politics: Bhagwat

Bhagwat said that RSS does not take part in electoral politics nor does it support any political party. He said, ‘We do not support any party. We don’t do politics, we support policy. There was a demand for Ram temple in Ayodhya, so the volunteers went in favor of those parties which were in support of it. If Congress had supported, they would have voted for Congress.

‘Muslims and Christians can also come, but…’: RSS Chief

On the question asked about Muslims joining RSS, Bhagwat said that there is no restriction on the basis of caste, religion or creed in the Sangh. He said, ‘Neither any Brahmin is allowed to come separately, nor any Muslim or Christian is stopped. Whoever comes, should come as a son of Mother India. Both Muslims and Christians come to our shakha, but we do not ask who is who.

Why is there no registration of RSS?

Recently Congress leaders raised the question why RSS is not a registered organization. On this, Bhagwat said, ‘When the Sangh started in 1925, would we have registered with the British Government? Even after independence, registration is not mandatory under law. We also get legal recognition as ‘body of individuals’ and we fall in the same category.

He said that the Sangh was banned thrice, which proves that the government considers it a ‘recognised organisation’, otherwise how could it have been banned? He said that every time the courts canceled the ban. Therefore the association is neither illegal nor unconstitutional and we do not need registration.

RSS counterattacks after Kharge’s statement

These statements of Bhagwat have come after the recent allegations of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. Kharge had said last month that his ‘personal opinion’ was that RSS should be banned. Many Congress leaders, including Kharge’s son and Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge, had recently made scathing attacks on the RSS. Bhagwat said that as the opposition increases, the Sangh becomes stronger.

RSS’s opinion on tricolor

Congress often alleges that RSS does not believe in the tricolor. On this Bhagwat said that this perception is wrong. He said, ‘The organization adopted its saffron flag in 1925. The national flag was decided in 1933. At that time the Flag Committee had also recommended the traditional saffron colour, but on the suggestion of Gandhiji, a three-coloured flag was made. Bhagwat said that RSS has always respected the tricolor. ‘Congress has its own flag, Communist Party has a red flag, Republican Party has a blue flag. Similarly, we have a saffron flag, but our respect for the national flag has always remained firm.

Karnataka High Court has put an interim stay on the government’s order regarding Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in the state. The High Court on Tuesday (October 28, 2025) has given a big decision regarding the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Along with this, the High Court has also issued a notice to the state government. In fact, the Karnataka government had ordered to ban the activities of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in the state and make it mandatory to take prior permission for gathering of more than 10 people in public places, on which the High Court has now given a major decision. This decision of the High Court is a big blow to the government led by CM Siddaramaiah.

This decision of the state government was challenged in the Karnataka High Court and it was alleged that it was against the fundamental rights of the citizens. Hubli based Punashchitna Seva Sanstha had filed a petition in the High Court. At the same time, the Karnataka government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced to challenge this decision of the High Court. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the state government will file an appeal in the division bench of the High Court against the interim order of the Dharwad bench.

Petitioner’s lawyer argued in court

A single bench of Justice Nagaprasanna has issued an order to put an interim stay on this order of the government and said that the next hearing in this case will be on November 17, 2025. On behalf of the petitioner, senior advocate Ashok Harnahalli argued in the court, ‘The government has ordered that permission will have to be taken for any gathering of more than 10 people. This is a restriction on the fundamental rights given by the Constitution. Even if a party is held in a park, that too will be considered an illegal gathering as per the government orders.

Government order was issued in the beginning of this month

This government order, which was postponed by the Karnataka High Court, was issued earlier this month. In the order issued by the state government, guidelines were given that no private or social organization can organize any program, meeting or cultural event in government or public properties like government schools, college grounds or other institutional premises without written permission.

In this order, the district administration was also directed to ensure that the rules are strictly followed and in case of any violation, action should be taken under the Karnataka Land Revenue Act and Education Act.

The Karnataka government is preparing to ban the activities of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in government schools and college campuses in the state. State government minister Priyank Kharge said in this regard on Thursday (October 16, 2025) that the Karnataka Cabinet has decided to bring new rules to ban the activities of RSS.

A day before this statement of Minister Priyank Kharge, on Wednesday (October 15, 2025), Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had said that his government is considering ways to ensure that no organization harasses people.

Minister Priyank Kharge gave information

Priyank Kharge told news agency PTI after the cabinet meeting, ‘The rules that we are going to bring will be related to public places, government schools, colleges, government premises, government-owned institutions and aided institutions. We will make a new rule by bringing together the orders issued earlier by the Home Department, Law Department and Education Department. In the next two to three days, this new rule will be implemented within the ambit of the law and the Constitution.

If you want to do anything, you will have to take permission from the government – Kharge

This decision of the Karnataka government is being considered as a big step towards banning the activities of RSS in government and government-aided schools and colleges of the state. Kharge further said, ‘We cannot control any organization, but from now on no organization will be able to do anything of its own free will in public places or on the streets. If you want to do anything, you will have to take permission from the government.

Priyank Kharge wrote a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah

Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge had earlier written a letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah demanding a ban on RSS activities in government schools, colleges and state-owned temples. He had alleged that RSS was influencing the minds of the youth and promoting ideology against the Constitution.

In a letter written to the Chief Minister, Kharge requested that like Tamil Nadu, such restrictions should be implemented in Karnataka also. After Kharge’s letter, Siddaramaiah directed the Chief Secretary to review the action taken on this matter.

RSS Ban: The debate regarding Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has intensified in Karnataka. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has given instructions regarding the RSS program that RSS branches should not be established in government and government-aided schools, public grounds or other government properties. This instruction has been given on the request of Information Technology, Biotechnology, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge. In a letter written by Kharge to the Chief Minister, the RSS has expressed concern over the use of public institutions to organize shakhas, allegedly promoting divisive ideologies and inciting anti-constitutional sentiments among children and youth. In the meantime, let us know when attempts have been made to ban RSS before.

After the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi

The first major ban on RSS was imposed after the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi on 30 January 1948. The then Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had imposed this ban on 4 February 1948. His allegation was that RSS was instigating communal tension. This ban was removed in 1949.

during emergency

In 1975, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had declared a nationwide emergency. With this, civil liberties were suspended and political opposition was cracked down on. During this period the RSS was banned again as it was considered a threat to the authority of the government. During this period, many RSS workers were arrested, which showed the controversial role of the organization in Indian politics.

Babri Masjid after demolition

After the demolition of Babri Masjid on 6 December 1992, the central government led by Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao had banned RSS along with organizations like Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal. Later this ban was removed by the High Court.

Priyank Kharge’s letter to CM

Priyank, writing a letter to the CM, said that an organization named Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is using government and aided schools and public government grounds to set up shakhas and inculcate negative thoughts in the minds of children and youth towards the unity of the country and raise slogans against the ideals of the Constitution. Along with this, he requested to ban the activities of RSS organized in government and aided schools, grounds and parks.

On the occasion of the centenary year of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Prime Minister Narendra Modi released a specially designed postage stamp and a memorial coin of Rs 100 at a ceremony held at Dr. Ambedkar International Center in Delhi.

The RSS was established in 1925 by Keshav Baliram Hedgver in Nagpur. He is known for volunteer-based social and service works. The organization has made significant contribution in areas like education, health, disaster relief and social service. Published postage stamps and monuments are a symbol of these contributions and honor the services of the organization.

On one occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this postage stamp has its own special importance. He reminded that in 1963 the RSS volunteers attended the Republic Day Parade on 26 January and had to tune the patriotism. PM Modi further said that this postage stamp cherishes the memory of the same historical moment. Also, it also has a glimpse of those volunteers of the Sangh, who are constantly engaged in the service of the country and are strengthening the society.

PM Modi said that there is a national mark on the coin on one side and on the other hand there is a grand image of Bharat Mata in Varad Mudra with Singh, in front of which the volunteers of the Sangh are seen paying obeisance with dedication. PM Modi mentioned that this is the first time that a picture of Bharat Mata has been marked on Indian currency. The realization sentence of the Sangh is also written on the coin- “Rashtraya Swaha, Idan Rashtraya Idan Mam”

PM Modi’s message towards Sangh

The Prime Minister said that several attempts were made to stop the Sangh from getting into the mainstream, Guruji was sent to jail in false cases, but the Sangh never adopted bitterness. The volunteers of the Sangh are not different from the society, they are part of the society and they always maintained faith in democracy and constitutional institutions. PM Modi said that despite many challenging circumstances of the society, the Sangh is still adamant like a Virat Vat tree.

Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) said on Wednesday (August 27, 2025) that temples, water and cremation are for all, they should not be discriminated against. The Sangh chief mentioned many important things including trade, conversion, knowing about the Sangh from America during this period.

10 big things of Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat-

1- The RSS chief said, ‘The purpose of our India is world welfare. Everyone is different, but all are one. The world runs with belongingness, it cannot run on the deal. The creation runs well by protecting religion. Because rootism increased and reached over, individualism increased and reached over.

2- The Sangh chief said, ‘If development is indefinite, there is a malfunction in the world. There is disturbance in the world, discord, fanatism has increased, words like Vokism are a big crisis for the world. Religion is not a relief. Diversity in religion is acceptable.

3- Mohan Bhagwat said, ‘Today’s world is craving relationships, but where the relationship is considered to be the country is India. Today, due to economic progress, the distance between the poor and the rich is increasing. There are discussions to overcome this but the results do not come much. Religion should go everywhere, there is no need for conversion.

4- He said, ‘India has always helped those who have done harm while ignoring their loss. Today the world considers our credibility, society believes in our point. Now what is the next stop that we are doing in the Sangh should be in the whole society, which are works like character building, patriotism.

5- RSS Chief said, ‘The worse in India is 40 times better in society. We will have to reach every corner of the society, no person is left, we will have to expand such work. Will have to go to all sections of society and all levels. The Sangh will have to reach the top from the poor to the rich. It will have to be done as soon as possible. So that everyone gets engaged in the work of change of society.

6- Mohan Bhagwat said, ‘The ideology that came from outside also came due to the attack, this is why the people accepted them, but our opinion is to accept everyone. Efforts are needed from both sides to bridge the distance that is made. This is very important for goodwill and positivity, which the country will have to do at the national level.

7- He said, ‘First of all, we have to work to connect society with neighboring countries. Today, the neighboring countries, most of the country were the country in the past. People are there. Everyone’s development should be developed in the inheritance. Let the sect sects be separated, but the society will have to be connected.

8- The Sangh chief said, ‘These three things have to be worked in the environment. Save the first water, remove the second single juice plastic and plant a third tree. Apart from this, work will have to be done on social harmony. We start thinking about the caste about man. It has to be eliminated from the mind. Temples, water, cremation are for everyone, there should be no distinction in it.

9- The head of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh said, ‘India needs to be self -sufficient. Swadeshi’s talk will not mean relations with abroad. International relations and business will continue, but there should not be pressure but voluntarily.

10- Mohan Bhagwat said, ‘If you can drink lemon shikanji, then why should coca cola and spright, eat good food at home, what is the need of pizza from outside. Those who are in their country, should get encouragement, who should not take it from abroad for not near himself.
