Telangana News: The Telangana government has started a unique and popular initiative to develop Hyderabad in Telangana as a global city. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced that some big and prominent roads of the city will be named after international celebrities and big companies of the world. Its objective is to give Hyderabad an identity on the global stage and attract international investors.

Big road named after Ratan Tata

The government has first taken the initiative to honor prominent industrialist and Padma Bhushan awardee Ratan Tata. It has been decided to name the 100 meter wide greenfield radial road starting from Raviriyala near Nehru Outer Ring Road (ORR) connecting the proposed Future City as “Ratan Tata Road”. It is noteworthy that Raviriyala Interchange has already been named “Tata Interchange”. With this, an effort is being made to recognize the growing contribution of Tata Group in Hyderabad.

Avenue named after Donald Trump

The most discussed proposal is to name the main road in front of the US Consulate as “Donald Trump Avenue”. This will be the first time in the world that an Indian city will have a road named after former US President Donald Trump. The government will soon send a letter to the Union Ministry of External Affairs and the US Embassy to take this proposal forward. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy believes that this will further increase the international brand value of Hyderabad and strengthen investment and trade relations with America.

Google Street and Microsoft Road also proposed

The Chief Minister also hinted at the recent US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) meeting held in Delhi that some other roads in Hyderabad will soon be named after big global tech companies. According to the plan, one road can be named Google Street, the other Microsoft Road and an important intersection can be named Wipro Junction.

Tata Trusts Power Struggle: Tata Trust Chairman Noel Tata and Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday. During this, differences among the trustees on the issue of appointment of directors and governance in the board of Tata Sons were discussed. On Tuesday, Noel Tata, N. Chandrasekaran, Tata Trusts Vice Chairman Venu Srinivasan and trustee Darius Khambatta reached the Home Minister’s residence in the evening for the meeting, which was also attended by Sitharaman.

What is the matter?

Tata Trust holds about 66 percent stake in Tata Sons. After recent differences, Tata Trusts has been divided into two groups. Noel Tata is in command of one group. Meanwhile, the command of the second group of four members is with Mehul Mistry. The real reason for the dispute between them is regarding the appointment of the board of directors in Tata Sons.

In fact, after the death of Ratan Tata, Noel Tata was elected chairman of Tata Trusts in October 2024. During that time, it was decided that nominee directors of the trusts would be appointed every year in the Tata Sons Board, so that transparency is maintained among all the members of the trust. It is also important to mention here that Mehul Mistry is associated with Shapoorji Pallonji Group, which has 18.37 percent stake in Tata Sons. Now some trustees believe that Noel Tata is keeping them away from many important information. These trustees are not happy with the way Noel Tata is working.

Mistry is a big supporter of Ratan Tata and had supported Tata in the fight against late Cyrus Mistry. Mehul says that Noel Tata kept him away from many important information. The main reason for this controversy is regarding board appointment in Tata Sons. Tata Sons handles the affairs of this 156 year old group. It includes about 400 companies including 30 listed companies.

Sources say the controversy started in the meeting held on September 11 when the board of directors of Tata Sons was considering the reappointment of former defense secretary Vijay Singh, who had resigned last month. Vijay Singh is one of the seven trustees of Tata Trust. That Singh did not attend the meeting of September 11, even though his name was in the nomination agenda.

77-year-old Vijay Singh has been the director of Tata Sons since 2012 and a trustee since 2018. In the meeting, the proposal for his reappointment was put forward by Trusts Chairman Noel Tata and Venu Srinivasan. However, four other trustees – Mehli Mistry, Pramit Jhaveri, Jahangir H.C. Jahangir and Darius Khambatta opposed it. Due to this the proposal was rejected. After this, all four trustees talked about nominating Mehli Mistry to the board of Tata Sons, but this time the proposal was opposed by Noel Tata and Venu Srinivasan. After this, Vijay Singh resigned from the board of Tata Sons on his own will. Now the next meeting of the trust is on October 10.
