RBI New Proposal: From time to time, new methods have been tried by RBI i.e. Reserve Bank of India to prevent fraud and scams. In this context, recently, to prevent online fraud, RBI has proposed to impose a delay of 1 hour on large digital transactions. But many banks have expressed concern over this proposal of RBI.

What do the banks say?
Many banks say that the limit of Rs 10,000 set by RBI is very low. He believes that it should be increased to at least Rs 25,000. According to bank employees, a delay of 1 hour on transactions above Rs 10,000 may affect the speed of UPI and online payments.

Speaking to NDTV Profit, a senior government bank official said that emergency payments and tax related transactions should be kept out of this rule. Also, it may be difficult for some small and less technical banks to implement a facility like kill switch.

What was RBI’s proposal?
Let us tell you that last month RBI had issued a discussion paper to prevent cyber fraud. Four major suggestions were made in this, including:

• 1 hour delay on large online transactions
• Extra security checks for high value transactions
• Large amount transfer allowed only to trusted accounts
• Giving customers additional control over large digital transactions

After this decision of RBI, people associated with the payment industry say that the rule of separate scrutiny of accounts receiving more than Rs 25 lakh is also not practical. Fraudsters can avoid this rule by using multiple small accounts. Cases of digital fraud are continuously increasing in India. In the year 2025, about 28 lakh cases of digital fraud were reported, whereas in 2024 this rate was 24 lakh. The amount of fraud increased to approximately Rs 22,931 crore.
