Pakistan’s friend Turkey has announced the new discovery of 92.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas. According to the current market rates, its value has been estimated at around 37 billion US dollars i.e. around Rs 3.08 lakh crore. Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar told the Parliament’s Energy Committee that this discovery is the biggest step towards Turkey’s energy self-sufficiency. Out of this, 75 billion cubic meters of gas was obtained from the Goktepe-3 well in May 2025.

Minister Bayraktar informed that the government aims to complete a total of 300 drilling operations by 2026, of which 282 will be onshore and 18 will be offshore. Turkey is currently producing 1.8 lakh barrels of oil per day, which is enough to fuel approximately 7 million vehicles. He said that oil production in the Mount Gabar field has been increased to 81,000 barrels per day from the earlier 57,000 barrels. Due to this, the country’s trade deficit has reduced by about 2 billion dollars every year.

20 million cubic meter production by 2026

The Turkish government also said that gas production of 20 million cubic meters / day will be started by 2026 through the new floating platform Osman Gazi being established in the Sakarya Gas Field in the Black Sea. In the third phase (by 2028), this production is expected to increase to 45 million cubic meters/day.

Self-reliance in energy sector through modern drilling technology

Over the past decade, Turkey has built the world’s fourth largest oil and gas exploration fleet. This includes 6 drilling ships and 2 seismic survey ships. With the help of these modern ships, Turkey is now able to dig and produce in its own sea areas, thereby reducing its dependence on foreign companies.

New gas discovery in Egypt, increased energy activity in Arab region

Along with Turkey, Egypt has also recently announced the discovery of new natural gas. According to the Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum, Badr El Din Company has discovered a well in the Badr-15 field of the Western Desert, which has the capacity to produce 16 million cubic feet of gas and 750 barrels of condensate per day. This is likely to increase Egypt’s national gas reserves by approximately 15 billion cubic feet.

Turki President Recep Tayip Erdogan (Khalifa) suffered a major setback when the US flatly refused to sell Turki F-35 fighter aircraft. The major reason for this decision is to buy Turki to buy the S-400 missile defense system from Russia, which the US had described as a threat to the NATO security structure. After this, the Turki was excluded from the F-35 program, causing Erdogan’s ambitions to be a big shock.

After the F-35 dispute, Erdogan has now moved to Britain. According to the Middle East I report, a temporary agreement has been prepared between Turki and Britain on 40 Eurofighteer Typhoon Aircraft. Britain’s Defense Secretary John Heli can sign the agreement during the IDEF weapon fair held in Istanbul. The deal will be under the UK -led Eurofighter Consortium, including countries such as Germany, Italy and Spain. In such a situation, the consent of all these countries will be necessary. In 2024, the Turki crossed the earlier veto of Germany, which strengthened the possibility of the deal.

Why typhoon has become necessary
The F-16 and other American aircraft used in the Turki Air Force are getting old and a domestic fifth generation fighter jet called Kaan will not be ready till 2028. In such a situation, the Turki needs a bridge capability and Eurofighter Typhoon has emerged as a great option. The latest deal proposed the Eurofighter’s Tranche 4 variant, equipped with state -of -the -art avionics, AESA radar and multirol capabilities.

Playing technology transfer condition at price
In early 2024, Britain described the price of about $ 12 billion for 40 aircraft, which Turki considered expensive. This deal is not only at the price, but also on technical transfer and training of Turki pilots. Turki pilots have not yet operated European fighter aircraft. They have been dependent on the American platform till now. Currently, the Turki has also considered buying second hand eurofighters from Qatar so that delivery can be done quickly according to the requirement.

Strategic and political equation
Behind this deal, not only military needs, but geopolitical balance is also playing an important role. Turkes are now trying to strengthen their strategic relationship with Europe and Britain, distance from America. For Britain too, this deal is part of the strategy to find new defense partners after Brexit. Eurofighter sales can provide financial and politically strengthening the British defense industry.

Turkish ministers Visit Islamabad: Both senior ministers of Turki arrived in Islamabad on Wednesday, where they are scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Army Chief General Asim Munir. This tour is being considered an important step towards the growing defense cooperation and Islamic unity of both countries.

Business, defense and strategic cooperation review
According to the Turki media, issues such as fan and guller’s meeting with Pakistani leaders and military officials will be discussed on issues like economy, defense industry, trade and military cooperation. Also, there will be talk on the review of the High Level Strategic Cooperation Council held in Islamabad in February and the preparation of the next meeting in Turki.

Indo-Pak tension is also in agenda
This tour is happening at a time when India and Turki relations are stressful, especially due to the support of Pakistan. According to the Turki Media Hurriyat, the fan agenda also includes tension and regional peace attempt between India and Pakistan. In such a situation, India can become an important issue of this conversation.

Pakistan can get and Turkas weapons
The Turkas have already said that it will strengthen defense relations with Pakistan. This means that Pakistan can get more weapons and defense equipment from Turki. During the Indo-Pak struggle in May, the weapons made in Turkas helped Pakistan. In 2023, Turki sent weapons and ammunition worth about $ 20.95 million to Pakistan.

Turkas also interested in energy and minerals
Apart from defense, the Turkas are showing deep interest in Pakistan on the economic front. According to experts, Turki is eyeing three national oil companies of Pakistan. The two countries have entered into agreements between the Turki Petroleum Corporation and Pakistani companies in April 2025, which can increase the energy and mineral cooperation in the future.
