Summer Heat: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that many parts of northwest India including Delhi may have scorching heat next week. On the other hand, monsoon rains have stopped in central India and it will not start for at least a week.

The heat in Delhi has intensified since Saturday. Safdarjung Weather Station recorded a maximum temperature of 39.8 degrees Celsius, which is considered normal. But in the coming days this temperature can increase by 3 to 4 degrees. On Sunday, it can reach 42 degrees and by Tuesday to 44 degrees Celsius. This can prove to be the hottest week of this season so far. Currently, the highest temperature recorded in Delhi is 42.3 degrees Celsius, which was recorded on 16 May.

This may be the final heatwave
Scientists believe that it can be one of the last intense heatwaves of summer as the monsoon will be active again after this. At present, the progress of monsoon was stopped due to dry winds around May 29. According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon will grow again from June 12 to 18.

This time the heat was low!
This time the heat in the country has been relatively low, because the monsoon had reached before normal. Generally, the monsoon covers most parts of the country by the end of June and spreads across India by 8 July. It usually arrives in Delhi on 27 June.

Former Earth Science Secretary M. Rajeevan said that weather models are indicating that the monsoon will be weak till June 12. The reason for this is weak monsoon flow and dry winds coming from the north-west direction. He said that breaks during the monsoon have now become common and their number is increasing. However, it is expected that the monsoon will be activated again in the third week of June.

Temperature beyond 40 ° C in many parts of Delhi
On Saturday, Delhi’s Ayyanagar station recorded 41.2 ° C and Palam recorded 40.7 ° C. Air quality has also deteriorated and AQI has reached 209, which falls in the ‘poor’ category. In view of this, prevention measures have been implemented in NCR under Stage 1 of Grap.

The threat of heatwave continues
No heatwave warning or color-coded alert has been issued to Delhi so far. However, IMD has reported that heatwave can be created in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and West Rajasthan.

According to the IMD senior scientist Naresh Kumar, the temperature in many parts is below normal at the moment, but it will increase in the next four-five days. In West Rajasthan, Heatwave can be returned from 9 June, while in parts of Punjab, Haryana, UP and MP on June 10, the heat can reach the peak. The temperature in Delhi-NCR can go from 43 to 44 ° C.

When is heatwave and severe heatwave?
According to the IMD, if the maximum temperature is above 40 ° C and is 4.5 degrees or more than normal, then it is considered heatwave. It is also considered heatwave at temperatures above 45 degrees. If 6.5 degrees or more than normal, it is considered a serious heat.

Monsoon likely to be active from June 13
Mahesh Palawat, Vice President of Skymet Meteorological, said that the current seasonal systems such as Western disturbances and cyclonic circulation – are now weakened. He said that the monsoon can be active again from June 13. Till then the weather will remain drought in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, UP, MP, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.

Possibility of heavy rains in South and Northeast India from June 10
According to IMD, heavy rains are expected in South India and Northeast states from June 10. The monsoon will be active again in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and the rain will return.

Record rain in May, not yet heatwave
In May this year, Delhi has recorded the highest rainfall so far 184.6 mm, which is the highest since 1901. Due to this, the temperature remained under control in May and not a single heat was recorded. In contrast, in May last year, he was six days of heatwave. On May 29 last year, the maximum temperature in Safdarjung was recorded at 46.8 ° C and the mercury reached 49 ° C from 26 to 31 May.

Vigilance required for next week
Although this time the heat has intensified late, but now the temperature is rising rapidly. Given the warnings of the Meteorological Department, it is important that people be cautious and adopt all measures to avoid heat, such as not getting out in the sun, drinking enough water and taking special care of the elderly and children.
