Pakistan ahmadiyya community: Religious extremists in Pakistan allegedly stopped members of the Ahmedia minority community from offering Eid prayers in at least seven cities. The Jamaat-e-Ahdiya Pakistan (JAP) claimed that the radical Islamic party-Tehreek-e-Labback Pakistan (TLP) also forced two Ahmedia people to abandon their religious beliefs, who did the same for fear of killing the crowd. In recent months, a group of religious extremists have been preventing members of the Ahmedia community from offering prayers at their worship sites on Friday.

Eid prayers were stopped in Karachi
According to the Jamaat-e-Ahmedia Pakistan (JAP), Ahmadiyas were stopped from offering Eid prayers in Khushab, Mirpur Khas, Lodharan, Bhakkar, Rajanpur, Umarkot, Larkana and Karachi. He said that religious extremists, along with the local administration, stopped the Ahmadiyya community from offering Eid prayers within their places that offer their prayers. He said that Giri Shahu, the oldest Ahmadi worship site of Lahore, was surrounded by TLP workers on Eid on Saturday and demanded the police to seal it. He said that the police took action on his call and sealed the place of offering Ahmadiya’s prayers.

After this incident, the police registered a case against more than 50 people, including 8 named Ahmedis, under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

The FIR was lodged on the complaint of a person named Mohammad Amanullah, alleging that people of Ahmadi community are insulting Islam, calling themselves Muslims. Ahmadis were declared non-Muslim in Pakistan in 1974, after which they have not been allowed to follow Islamic customs. In recent years, attacks and restrictions against him have increased further.

At the same time, Jamaat-e-Ahmedia Pakistan (JAP) spokesperson Aamir Mahmood said in his statement that the Ahmadiya community was stopped from offering prayers at 33 places in the last one month. According to JAP, the places of worship of Ahmadis were also surrounded in many other districts of Punjab like Kartarpur, Gujarat and Sialkot. Hatred towards the Ahmadiyas community in Pakistan is not new, but recent incidents have put their religious freedom in more danger.

Constitution is being violated

Jamaat-e-Ahmedia Pakistan (JAP) says that this action is a clear violation of Article 20 of the Constitution of Pakistan, which guarantees religious freedom to all citizens. JAP spokesperson Aamir Mahmood demanded the government to ensure the safety of Ahmedis and take legal action against radical elements.
