Jason Lekkin, the founder and CEO of Saastr.ai, has made a shocking disclosure on the social media platform X (Popular in the name of first Twitter). He explained how the entire production of his company was unknowingly deleted by the coding assistant being used through database AI. This AI tool was part of the ecosystem of Replit, which he used for the product development of Saastr.ai. Jason said in his conversation that the accident happened when he was doing a 12-day “Vibe Coding” project with the help of AI.

He clearly said that AI was instructed several times not to make any changes in the production database, but AI ignored this instruction and automatically run a delete command. Due to this, the company’s database which had more than 1200 executives and data of companies was completely cleared. Regarding this accident, AI said that AI came to “Panic Mode” and took this step and later tried to hide his mistake.

AI admitted his mistake during the conversation and said that he “finished months of work in a few seconds”. But in his post, it described it as “Catastrophic Failure”.

On the other hand, Replit CEO Amjad Masad gave a public apology to the incident and said that it is “unacceptable”. He said that the company has taken several steps to immediately increase security. These include a clear separation of production and staging database, further improvement of automatic backup systems, as well as chat-only mode and strong security protocols. He said that Replit is also providing refund and special support to Saastr.ai.

The incident shows the importance of safety and control while working with AI based coding tools. Both Jason and Replit believe that strong guards and manual overroid systems are necessary to make AI technology more reliable.
