Inflation News: There was a war going on between Iran and the US since February, which took a break for a few days in June, but now once again the conflict between the two countries has started. Due to which inflation started spreading across the country since March. Especially in the month of May, inflation increased very rapidly which had an impact on the public’s pockets as well. Recently, the inflation rate for the month of June has been revealed, which has increased the tension of the people.

Inflation increased in June
Inflation has increased significantly in June as compared to May. According to the recently released CPI report, retail inflation has increased to 4.38% in June. Which was 3.93% in the month of May. According to this report, inflation on food items stood at 5.32% in June, whereas it was 4.78% in May. So let us tell you what has become expensive and what has become cheap.

Prices of these things increased
The biggest reason for increase in inflation in the month of June has been the increase in the prices of petrol and diesel in May. Due to which the cost of transportation has also increased. Due to this the prices of these things have increased:

Let us tell you that the inflation rate has increased in the month of June as compared to May because the government had increased the prices of petrol and diesel gas in May itself. Which had an impact on things used in everyday life. Everything from milk to transport had started becoming expensive. Now it will be interesting to see what comes out in the July report.

Retail Inflation: Due to the ongoing tension between US and Iran, the prices of crude oil are continuously increasing. Its direct impact is also on India’s economy. With the increase in the prices of petrol, diesel and gas, the era of inflation has started. The country’s retail inflation rate has reached the highest level of 15 months at 3.48 percent in April. Know which state has the lowest and which has the highest inflation rate.

Inflation rate increased the least in these states

According to statistics…

Mizoram recorded the lowest inflation rate of 0.69 percent

1.77 percent in Chhattisgarh

1.96 percent in Delhi

2.02 percent in Ladakh

2.07 percent in Arunachal Pradesh

These states have had the lowest inflation rates.

Inflation rate increased the most in these states

According to statistics…

The highest inflation rate of 5.81 percent was recorded in Telangana.

4.20 percent in Andhra Pradesh

4.00 percent in Karnataka

And the inflation rate in Rajasthan was 3.77 percent.

These states remained on top in terms of inflation this month.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) estimates that the country’s retail inflation rate may be 4.6 percent in the financial year 2026-27. Better production of Rabi crop is considered to be the main reason behind this.

Prices of these things increased
The increase in inflation has had the biggest impact on five things. These include silver jewellery, coconut, gold-silver and platinum jewellery, tomato and cauliflower. Apart from this, inflation rate was high in food and beverages, paan tobacco and intoxicants, clothing and footwear, health, information and communication and educational services in April.

What did the RBI Governor say?
On this issue, RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said, “Due to the rise in global energy prices, prices of some fuels like premium petrol, LPG and industrial use diesel have increased.

Retail Inflation In India: Amidst the increasing global tension related to Iran and the latest inflation figures, news has come out that increases the concern for the common people. According to government data released on Thursday, retail inflation has again increased in the country.

According to government data, retail inflation based on Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased to 3.21% in February, whereas it was 2.74% in January. These figures have been released by the National Statistical Office (NSO) and have been prepared on the basis of the new series with base year 2024.

Food inflation also increased

Food inflation has also increased rapidly in February whereas a month ago i.e. in January, food inflation was 2.13%. It increased to 3.47% in February.

prices of which things increased

During this period, a sharp rise in the prices of many commodities was seen, including:

gold and silver jewelery

diamond and platinum jewelery

coconut and copra

Tomato

Cauliflower

prices of which things decreased

There was also relief in the prices of some food items, such as:

Garlic

Onion

Potato

arhar dal

litchi

rural and urban inflation

According to the data, the impact of inflation was different in both rural and urban areas:

Inflation rate in rural areas: 3.37%

Inflation rate in urban areas: 3.02%

Experts say that if tensions in West Asia increase and persist for a long time and oil prices remain high, there may be further pressure on inflation in the coming months. Its effect can be seen on both the expenditure of common people and the economy of the country.

It is noteworthy that after the release of Retail Inflation Index last month, Chief Economic Advisor of the Central Government V. Anantha Nageswaran had said that if the fluctuations in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) are reduced, then it will also bring stability in the financial expenses of the government.

Additionally, he further said that many government expenditures, such as determination of Dearness Allowance and inflation-linked bonds, are directly linked to CPI. So if the CPI remains more stable, these expenses become easier to estimate and become more reliable and predictable.

India’s Retail Inflation: New retail inflation data has been released for the month of January, in which the inflation rate has been recorded at 2.75 percent. The special thing is that this data has been prepared on the basis of the new series of Consumer Price Index (CPI). Now the basis of calculation has been changed from 2012 to 2024, due to which there has been a change in both the method and scope of inflation estimation.

Government made changes in the base year

In this new series released by the National Statistics Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, several important amendments have been made keeping in mind the changing patterns of consumer spending. To present a more accurate picture of the price situation, the number of goods has been increased from 259 to 308, while the number of services has been increased from 40 to 50. Its purpose is to ensure that people’s actual consumption behavior is better reflected.

Food inflation in January stood at 2.13 percent, which is lower than the overall inflation rate. The new series includes rural house rent, online media services, fuels like CNG/PNG. Additionally, telephone charges, rail and air fares, postal charges, fuel and online streaming services like OTT subscriptions have also been included to make better use of the data available from digital and administrative sources. This change reflects the changing lifestyle of consumers and the increasing role of digital services.

SBI Research Report on GST: GST 2.0 was announced amidst the ongoing trade tariff tension with the US. It is being said that due to extensive changes in GST rates, tax rates on essential household goods and services will be reduced. In addition, it can help reduce retail inflation from 0.65% to 0.75% in the next financial year. On Thursday, SBI Research said that in the 56th meeting of the GST Council on Wednesday, two tax slabs of 5% and 18% have been approved instead of the current four -level tax rate structure.

What is going to happen?
In addition, a special rate of 40% has been fixed for some luxury and harmful goods and services. The new tax rates will be effective from 22 September except tobacco and related products. The SBI report further stated that out of the 453 items which were changed in GST rates, 413 items were seen to be seen to be seen, while only 40 items were seen to be increased. About 295 items now apply 5 percent or 0 GST rate instead of 12 percent.

Since the GST rate of essential commodities (about 295 items) has come down from 12% to 5% or 0, the consumer price index-based inflation in this category can also be reduced by 0.25 to 0.30 percent in FY 2025-26, keeping in mind the effect of getting 60% of customers on food items.

Why can inflation be reduced?

If you believe in SBI Research Report, then rationalization of GST rates on services will reduce retail inflation on other goods and services from 0.40 to 0.45%. In this, customers have been estimated to get 50% benefits.

According to the report, retail inflation may decrease from 0.65 to 0.75% during the financial year 2026-27. The effective weight average GST rate has come down to 11.6 percent in September 2019, which was 14.4 percent in the beginning, with the GST Council rationalized by the GST Council. According to the report, in view of the current change in rates, the effective weight average GST rate can be reduced to 9.5 percent.

Retail inflation: The common man has been relieved on the inflation front in the country. India’s retail inflation has come down to 1.55 percent this month due to the fall in the prices of food items in the month of July. This is the lowest in the last eight years. According to government data, this is the lowest level of retail inflation since June 2017. Retail inflation in July was lower than the 2.1 percent of June this year, 55 basis points, which is the lowest level of retail inflation since January 2019.

Inflation in negative zone

In July this year, food inflation came down to the negative zone of -1.76 percent over the same month. Food inflation has also fallen by 75 basis points in July as compared to June. Food is the lowest level of inflation since January 2019. The decline in main inflation and food inflation during July 2025 is the reason for the declining prices of pulses, vegetables, grains, eggs and sugar.

May cpi data: India’s retail inflation was 2.82 percent in May, which was 3.16 percent in April. That is, it has reduced by 34 basis points in the last one month. Retail inflation has become the lowest in May after February 2019. At the same time, in October, retail inflation reached the 14 -month high level 6.21 percent. This decline is more than expected. The CNBC-TV18 pole had estimated inflation to be 2.95 percent in May.

Due to these, there is a decrease in inflation

The credit for this decline in retail inflation in May goes to the decrease in the price of vegetables, fruits, grains, pulses, sugar, confectionery and eggs. All India Consumer Food Price Index (CFPI) is 0.99 percent compared to the annual inflation rate of May 2024. NSO data shows that food inflation in May was 0.99 percent, which is much less than 8.69 percent in the same month a year ago.

There is so much inflation in rural and urban areas

According to data from the National Statistics Office, the same inflation rate for rural areas was 0.95 % and urban inflation was 0.96 %. Food inflation saw a rapid decline of 79 basis points in May 2025. In total, food inflation in May 2025 is the lowest since October 2021.

In May, the main and food inflation in rural areas was 2.59 percent (provisional), while in April 2025 it was 2.92 percent. Urban inflation declined from 3.36 percent in April 2025 to 3.07 percent (provisional) in May 2025. Food inflation has seen a sharp decline of up to 0.96 percent in April 2025 to 0.96 percent in May 2025.

In May, the inflation rate of vegetables decreased from April -10.98 percent to -13.70 percent. Inflation from pulses to other products decreased from April -5.23 percent to -8.22 percent. Inflation of grains and other products was 4.77 %, inflation of milk and products was 3.15 percent. Fuel and light inflation was 2.78 percent.
