US President Donald Trump has taken a tough stance after the death of two American soldiers and a civilian interpreter in an ISIS attack in Syria. Trump described the attack as a direct attack on both America and Syria and said that there would be ‘very serious retaliation’. Speaking to reporters at the White House, President Trump described those killed as ‘three great patriots’. He said, ‘This ISIS attack was on both America and Syria. We mourn the death of our people and pray for their parents and families.

‘We will respond’- Trump bluntly
When Trump was asked whether America would respond to this attack, he clearly said, ‘Yes, we will respond.’ After this, he also wrote on the social media platform Truth Social that ‘very serious retaliatory action’ will be taken.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that the attack took place on December 13 during a counter-terrorism operation near Palmyra, Syria. According to CENTCOM, the lone attacker was an ISIS gunman. He was killed by American and allied forces. Three other American soldiers were injured in this attack. The identities of the deceased have not been made public at this time and will be kept confidential for the next 24 hours, so that the families can be informed.

Syria’s new president is also angry
Trump said Syria’s new President Ahmed al-Shaara is “extremely angry and disturbed” by the attack. He said that the attack took place in that part of Syria which is not yet completely under the control of the government and which is considered a ‘very dangerous area’. Currently, about 900 American soldiers are deployed in Syria, who are part of the ongoing operations against the Islamic State (ISIS).

This attack took place at a time when Syria’s interim President Ahmed al-Shaara had met Trump at the White House just a few weeks ago. Al-Sharaa came to power after the fall of Bashar al-Assad government. Assad later fled to Russia, where he was given asylum. CDS General Anil Chauhan said that ‘Operation Sindoor’ is still going on and the forces will have to be in the highest vigilance all the time.
