Liquor prohibition law has been in force in Bihar for almost 10 years. Meanwhile, the MLA of Upendra Kushwaha’s party has started a controversy by demanding a review. However, the government has clearly said that the liquor prohibition law will not be withdrawn. Amidst all this, Vikassheel Insaan Party chief Mukesh Sahni has made a shocking claim. He was talking to the media in Patna on Thursday (February 19, 2026).

On the review of liquor ban, VIP chief Mukesh Sahni said, “Bharatiya Janata Party wants liquor to be allowed in Bihar. To take Bihar forward, to ensure that the mothers and sisters in Bihar remain safe and there are no fights in the house, for this you have implemented the liquor ban law and are causing a loss of Rs 40 thousand crores every year, but how is it failing? Why are you not implementing it successfully? Or are you not able to manage the state? The police administration is not under your control…”

‘…and they can earn big money’

Sahni said, “For what purpose did you implement the prohibition law? How many lakhs of crores of rupees did the state suffer in the last 9-10 years? Answer that first. Bharatiya Janata Party knows that Bihar has to be hollowed out. The target of the leaders of Bihar is to send money every month by charter plane. They know that there is nothing left in Bihar. BJP wants that liquor prohibition should be restarted and they can earn big money from it.”

‘Nitish Kumar unwell…BJP dominates’

The VIP chief further said that Nitish Kumar’s dream was to make Bihar a Gandhian state. Like liquor is banned in Gujarat, people are living life well. Right now Nitish Kumar has become unwell and BJP is dominant. The decision has to be taken by the government, but we question that first answer the purpose for which you implemented the liquor ban law and caused loss of lakhs of crores.

Upendra Kushwaha’s party (RLM) MLA Madhav Anand said in the House that the prohibition law implemented in Bihar should be reviewed. After his statement, now Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi’s reaction has come. On Wednesday (February 18, 2026), Manjhi was talking to journalists at his residence in Gayaji. Jitan Ram Manjhi said that prohibition is right but there are huge irregularities in its implementation.

The Union Minister said that he has already been warning the government on this issue. Many times the Chief Minister has demanded a review from Nitish Kumar. It was on his request that the liquor prohibition law was reviewed for the third time. He said that in the third review, a clear provision was made that a person who is moderately drunk or carrying 250 to 500 grams of liquor will not be arrested, but the reality is that the same people are being caught. Those who smuggle thousands and lakhs of liters are let off with money.

Manjhi demanded to think

Jitan Ram Manjhi said that liquor ban is causing economic loss to the state. He said that when prohibition is not effective and home delivery is taking place, expensive liquor is coming from outside, then Bihar’s money is going out. This should be seriously considered.

On the other hand, Jitan Ram Manjhi mentioned poisonous liquor. Said that the poor section, especially the people of Dalit community, are becoming victims of poisonous liquor. Liquor is made in two hours. Big people drink expensive liquor, but poor people get trapped and lose their lives.

Let us tell you that Jitan Ram Manjhi has given such a statement before also. Many times he has clearly said that the prohibition law needs to be reviewed again. After Madhav Anand, now Manjhi’s statement has increased the tension in NDA.

NDA constituent MLA has demanded that the liquor prohibition law be reviewed. Politics is going on on this. Meanwhile, JDU MLA Vinay Chaudhary attacked Tejashwi Yadav while talking to the media in the assembly complex on Wednesday (February 18, 2026). In a way, Tejashwi Yadav has been accused of coming to the House after drinking alcohol.

JDU MLA Vinay Chaudhary said that Tejashwi Yadav had come to the House wavering. On this the journalists said that his leg was injured. On this, the MLA said, “The body does not shake due to leg injury… So ask him why he was shaking. We were talking about getting a medical examination done, but he (Tejashwi Yadav) ran away.”

‘Review does not mean the end of the lockdown’

The JDU MLA was asked that the MLA of your constituent party has demanded that the prohibition law should be reviewed. On this he said that every person has his own thinking. Review of the law does not mean the end of the ban. This means more strictness. That means they have expected improvement.

On this question, yesterday (Tuesday) Tejashwi Yadav said that Bihar has got an unconscious Chief Minister. On this he said that he (Tejashwi) still feels like taking Nitish Kumar along again. There is no restlessness for that. The Chief Minister even said in the House that you (Tejashwi Yadav) were thrown out because of the disturbance. When the Chief Minister said these words then why did he not respond? Should have stood up in the House and challenged. Why didn’t you do it?

On the other hand, Congress MLA Abhishek Ranjan also made a big claim. Speaking to the media in the Assembly complex, he said, “The liquor ban law in Bihar has completely failed. Liquor is being delivered through home delivery. If someone demands, liquor can be delivered even inside the Assembly.”

Liquor prohibition law is in force in Bihar since 2016. Almost 10 years have passed and in the meanwhile, controversy has started once again regarding the review of this law. On Tuesday (February 17, 2026), MLA Madhav Anand of NDA’s ally Rashtriya Lok Morcha in the House raised the demand that the prohibition law should be reviewed. After this demand of Madhan Anand, politics has started in the state. However, JDU has made its stand clear.

JDU spokesperson Abhishek Jha did not take the name of his alliance partner MLA but took full aim at him. Abhishek Jha said that any law made by the government is being reviewed from time to time. Prohibition of alcohol has also been under review. An MLA has given a statement in the House that there should be a review. Now only they can tell what the meaning of the review is according to them.

‘Those who are giving statements…’

Abhishek Jha said that under the guise of review, if someone wants to delay it or wants to end it, then this cannot happen. Nitish Kumar has strictly enforced the liquor ban law in Bihar for so many years and will continue to do so in future also. The people who are giving statements keep traveling to Delhi. We feel that there is prohibition in Bihar but there is no prohibition in other states.

Prohibition law completely failed: AIMIM

AIMIM MLA Akhtarul Iman described the liquor ban law as a complete failure. Akhtarul Iman says that home delivery of liquor is being done in Bihar. The liquor mafia enjoys the protection of the government and the police. Due to prohibition, the new generation has fallen prey to dry addiction.

On one hand, Akhtarul Iman claimed that there were ‘holes’ in the liquor prohibition law, while on the other hand, senior minister of Bihar government, Vijay Chaudhary said that the liquor prohibition law in Bihar was implemented with the consent of all the parties in the House. The liquor ban law was in force in Bihar, is in force and will remain in force.

RJD sought answers from the Chief Minister

On this entire controversy, RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari said that only the MLAs of the ruling party are exposing the liquor ban in the House. MLAs are saying that liquor ban should be reviewed, then liquor ban is the silver of liquor mafia. People are dying due to poisonous liquor. The Chief Minister should answer. Now the leaders of his own constituent party are exposing the liquor ban.
