Rice Export News: Due to the ongoing tension between the US and Iran, the condition of markets around the world is in trouble. The public is troubled by the shortage and increase in prices of petrol, diesel and crude oil. So now the export of rice is also being affected. According to the Commerce Ministry, there has been a decrease in shipments on many routes including Middle East countries. Due to which there has been a sharp decline in exports.

What does the Commerce Ministry report say?
India is a big producer of rice at the global level, but looking at the current circumstances, this market seems to be at a standstill. According to the recent report of the Commerce Ministry, rice exports have declined by 7.5 percent to only 11.53 billion dollars in the financial year 2025-26. If we talk about March, exports have declined by 15.36 percent in this month to reach $99.75 million.

Shipments from these countries are being affected
Iran buys the largest quantity of Basmati rice from India. But looking at the current situation, order flow, payment flow and shipment schedule is being greatly affected. At the same time, the shipments to the countries of the Middle East region including Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Oman are also being greatly affected by this. It has also been said in the reports that in view of the current conditions, the countries receiving rice imports have expressed their inability to make the payment, due to which there is an atmosphere of tension among the exporters.

Let us tell you that, in the financial year 2024-25, India exported 20.1 million tonnes of rice worth US $ 12.5 billion, which reached more than 172 countries. India is considered to be the largest producer and exporter of rice. It produced about 150 million tonnes of rice from about 47 million hectares of land in 2024-25, which is about 28 percent of global production.
