A major police operation was conducted on Tuesday (28 October 2025) in Rio de Janeiro, the capital of the South American country Brazil. About 2,500 policemen were involved in this operation. The main target of the action was the drug gang Red Command, which has been active in favelas for many years.

The operation began in the morning, when police entered several areas with helicopters and armored vehicles. As soon as the security forces started moving forward, the gang members opened intense fire at the police. The encounter between the two sides continued for hours, in which more than 130 people died. Four policemen are also said to be among those killed.

Tension on the streets of Rio after the encounter
After the incident the atmosphere of the city became very tense. In many areas, dead bodies remained lying on the roads and local people protested against it. The family members alleged that the police also opened fire on innocent people. Many families demonstrated by placing the dead bodies on the streets and called this action a massacre.

Supreme Court sought accountability
The Supreme Court of Brazil has itself taken cognizance of this incident. Justice Alexander de Moraes has asked the state government and police officials to submit a detailed report. The court has asked whether all the deceased have been identified and whether the forensic investigation has been completed. The court also said that if there is a violation of rules in the use of force, then it is a serious threat to democratic values and human rights.

Criticism from human rights organizations
The United Nations (UN) and Human Rights Watch (HRW) have given a strong reaction to this operation. Both organizations say that this is an action like collective punishment in the name of law. The UN Human Rights Commission said in a statement that transparency and accountability are necessary in such a large number of deaths. Local NGOs said that apart from bullets, knife-like wounds were found on many dead bodies, which probably point towards extra-judicial killing i.e. killing without legal process.

Police side fight against narco terrorism
Rio Police said in its statement that this operation was against narco-terrorism. According to him, Red Command had been trying to take over the areas of rival gang Third Pure Command (TCP) in recent months, due to which the violence had increased. Police say that the gang had modern weapons, grenades and drones. According to the police spokesperson, our aim was to destroy the hideouts of these gangs so that security can be ensured in civilian areas.

Old roots of Rio’s drug war
Rio de Janeiro has long been infamous for drug mafia and police encounters. Many crime organizations are active in the favelas, of which the Red Command is the oldest and most influential gang. It not only controls the drug trade but also maintains its hold on local services like electricity, water and security. Every year hundreds of civilians are killed in these gang wars. Often police action turns so violent that even innocent people become victims.

PM Modi Statement in Brics Summit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the BRICS Summit (BRICS Summit 2025) held at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Sunday (July 6, 2025). At the BRICS summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave his address about peace and security. PM Modi said that global peace and security is not only one ideal, but it is the foundation of the common interests and future of all of us.

He said, “Development of humanity is possible in a peaceful and safe environment. BRICS has a very important role in fulfilling this purpose. To face our shared challenges, we have to unite and make collective efforts. I have to move forward.”

Prime Minister Modi said on the issue of terrorism

PM Modi gave a statement on terrorism, saying, “Terrorism stands as the most serious challenge for humanity today. Recently, India faced an inhuman and cowardly terrorist attack. On April 22, on 22 April, the terrorist attack in Pahalgam was a direct attack on the soul, identity and dignity of India. This attack was not only on India, not only India, the whole humanity has been standing with this misery and the clock of misery, who are standing with our support, who expressed their support and sensation I express my heartfelt gratitude to him. “

He said, “The condemnation of terrorism should be our ‘principle’, not only ‘facility’. If first you will see in which country, against whom, then it will be a betrayal against humanity.”

Can not weigh victims and supporters of terrorism in one scales- PM Modi

PM Modi said, “There should be no hesitation for banning terrorists. Terrorism victims and supporters cannot weigh in the same scales. For personal or political selfishness, terrorism should be assured, terrorism or supporting terrorists. Are we serious about it or not?

BRICS condemns Pahalgam terrorist attack in joint statement

At the same time, in the joint statement of the BRICS summit, the Pahalgam terror attack has been condemned. Along with this, action was also demanded on terrorists and terrorist organizations announced by the United Nations. This directly means that BRICS has given a strong message to Pakistan without naming Pakistan. BRICS said in his joint statement, “We repeat the elimination of every format of terrorism, including the cross border movement of terrorists, financial assistance to terrorists and providing their safe place.”

Prime Minister Modi said about global dispute and stress

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “World is surrounded by world disputes and stress from West Asia to Europe today. The human situation in Gaza is a cause of great concern. India has a strong belief that no matter how difficult the circumstances are, the path of peace is the only option for the good of humanity.”

He said, “India is the land of Lord Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi. There is no place for war and violence for us. India supports every effort that makes the world out of partition and struggle and leads to communication, cooperation and coordination, increase solidarity and trust. In this direction, we are committed to cooperation and partnership with all the friendly countries in this direction.”

Invited to attend BRICS conference in India

At the end of his address at the BRICS summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited for the BRICS Summit to be chaired by India next year. PM Modi said, “I invite all of you to come to India to attend the BRICS Summit to be held under the chairmanship of India.”

XI Jinping Brics Summit 2025: The 17th BRICS summit has started on Sunday (July 6, 2025) at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In this conference, he participated in many countries with the world’s emerging economy. However, this time the absence of the top leader of one member country of one of the most powerful countries of BRICS remained the subject of discussion.

72 -year -old President of China Xi Jinping will not attend the annual meeting of BRICS leaders this year. The Chinese President has used the platform of BRICS to a new look to the balance of global forces.

Chinese Prime Minister BRICS Summit will be involved

This will be the first time after coming to power in China in 2012 when President Xi Jinping will not attend the BRICS summit. On the other hand, Beijing has not given any official reason except the busyness of the program to send Chinese Prime Minister Lee Kyang to the conference instead of President Jinping.

The two -day BRICS conference held at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is going to be absent at a time when BRICS is discussing ways to increase mutual cooperation with member countries amidst serious concern over western domination. At the same time, in the year 2024, BRICS expanded itself and has also included Egypt, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Ethiopia, Indonesia and Iran among the member countries.

China will miss this opportunity due to not joining BRICS Summit

Chinese President Xi Jinping can lose the opportunity to present China as a stable option compared to the US, rather than attending the BRICS conference. This is an opportunity for China that Beijing has been wanting to show in front of Global South for a long time.

The reason for the absence of Jinping from BRICS

CNN quoted the Associate Professor Chong Jaa Eon at Singapore, saying in his report, “Perhaps BRICS Xi Jinping is not in the top priorities, as he is paying more attention to handling China’s domestic economy at the moment. Also, Beijing does not expect any major results from this year’s BRICS summit.”

It is also read: Weapons coming from Myanmar in Manipur, supply all over India! Security agencies alert

The Prime Minister of China will take part in this summit. The President of China is raising many questions not to attend the BRICS summit. Many experts also believe that Brazil has kept distance from China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) project and this is not liked by China.
