The cousin is 35 years old and earns around Rs 2 lakh every month, while his wife’s salary is Rs 1 lakh. That means both of them together are earning Rs 36 lakh annually. But despite this they say that they are still not able to afford even a decent 1BHK house. Their direct question is that when there is not enough space for oneself, then how to create a separate space for the child?

School fees increased tension

Not only the house, but also the expense of children’s education has become a major reason for this decision. The couple says that private school fees have reached Rs 35,000 to Rs 40,000 every month. In such a situation, it is not easy for them to bear the expenses of raising a child. This is why they are currently postponing family planning and trying to keep their expenses under control.

Growing trend of DINK lifestyle

Such couples are nowadays called DINK i.e. “Double Income, No Kids”. Such people earn both but decide not to have a child. They pay more attention to their career, travel and lifestyle. The number of such couples is increasing rapidly in urban areas, which shows that inflation and changing priorities are now affecting family planning as well.
