Veteran cricketer Ross Taylor, who has played for New Zealand, has taken a U-turn from retirement. He has decided to play in the ICC T20 World Cup Asia-East Asia Pacific qualifier not for New Zealand but for Samoa. Let us know that by winning this qualifier tournament, Samoa can qualify for next year’s T20 World Cup. Ross Taylor has shared this information through social media.

Ross Taylor wrote, “It has become official now. I am proud to announce that I will now come to the blue jersey and represent Samoa cricket team. It is not just a return to the game that I love. It will be a great respect for me to represent my heritage, culture, villages and family.”

Taylor has the ability to play for Samoa, because his mother comes from Samoa. It has been more than 3 years since he played a last match for New Zealand, so Ross Taylor can now play for another country in international cricket.

450 matches played for New Zealand

Ross Taylor, 41, played 450 matches for New Zealand in international cricket. He scored 18,199 runs in Tests, ODIs and T20s. He was also a part of the New Zealand Test team which won the 2021 World Test Championship title.

The T20 World Cup Asia East Asia Pacific Regional qualifier will start its campaign in the final phase from the match against Oman on 8 October. Samoa is placed in Group C with Papua New Guinea and Oman. Samoa can make it to Super-6 by staying in the top-2 of this group. At the same time, the team which will remain in the top-3 of the Super-6 phase will qualify for the World Cup.
