Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself received Russian President Vladimir Putin, who arrived in India after four years, breaking protocol. Both the leaders shook hands and hugged. Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh and Indian Ambassador to Russia Vinay Kumar were also present at the airport along with PM Modi. PM Modi and Putin left for 7LKM sitting in a car. Modi sat on the left side of the Fortuner car and Putin sat on the right side. During this, Guard of Honor was also given to President Putin.

This is Putin’s first visit to India since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war. To receive him, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the airport with his convoy. The Prime Minister will also host a private dinner in his honor today.

Putin will stay in India for the next thirty hours. Even before his arrival in India, many Russian ministers have reached Delhi. These also include Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Agriculture Minister Dmitry Petrov.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier reached the airport to receive 6 leaders. These include US President Barack Obama, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Japan’s Shinzo Abe, US President Donald Trump, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani.

‘Russia is interested in trade’

Russian Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov said that Russia is interested in increasing trade exchanges. We are interested in increasing the supply of Indian products to the Russian market and balancing trade. We are very interested in buying Indian products.

What did Defense Minister Rajnath Singh say?

Before Putin’s arrival, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s statement also came. He said that it is a good thing that despite geopolitical uncertainty, our India-Russia defense cooperation is progressing at a good pace. The 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held in Tianjin, China saw a different style of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russia President Vladimir Putin. The two leaders reached the Ritz-Karlton Hotel sitting together in the Ores sedan car in Russia. Putin kept waiting for Prime Minister Modi for about 10 minutes. The two leaders reached the way and then reached the hotel and continued the discussion for about 45 minutes. Both the giants welcomed and hugged warmly
There was also a warm atmosphere between Modi and Putin at the conference site. The two leaders embraced and greeted each other. Its pictures and videos became very viral on social media. PM Modi’s message in SCO
In his speech, Prime Minister Modi clarified India’s attitude towards SCO. He said that India’s priorities are based on three pillars.

• Security – Mass action against terrorism, especially recent Pahalgam attack.
• Connectivity – Emphasis on promotion of projects such as Chabahar port and north-south transport corridor.
• opportunity – Focused on strengthening regional cooperation and development.

PM Modi made an indirect comment on the CPEC of Belt and Road Initiative and Pakistan without naming and said that the projects that ignore sovereignty lose confidence.

Bilateral meeting of Modi-Ki Jinping after 7 years
This summit was also important because the first bilateral meeting was held between Prime Minister Modi and President Xi Jinping seven years later. Modi emphasized the need for India-China cooperation in dealing with terrorism. He also raised his concerns over terrorism across the border. The meeting took place after the 2020 Galwan struggle, which further increased its importance.

India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Thursday (August 7, 2025). The meeting was held with the aim of strengthening energy and defense cooperation between India and Russia. Doval had reached Moscow on Wednesday and had already indicated that Putin could travel to India at the end of the year.

Important talks with Russian Security Council Secretary
Earlier in the day, Doval also met Sergei Shoigu, Secretary, Russian Security Council. Shoigu said that there are “strong and the test of time” friendly relations between India and Russia. He said that it is important for the two countries to decide the time of new high level talks between President Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Emphasis on India-Russia strategic partnership
Shoigu said that the most important thing for Moscow is that special and privileged strategic partnership with India should be strengthened in every way. This partnership is based on mutual respect, faith, equal idea of each other’s interests and desire to promote shared agenda.

Cooperation in dealing with shared challenges
The Russian Security Council Secretary also said that both countries are committed to dealing with the challenges and dangers of modern times. India and Russia have been strategically connected with each other in security, defense, energy and technical fields for many decades.

Netanyahu’s statement
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also strongly condemned the attack in his official message and said that my dear friend Narendra Modi is very sad about the barbaric terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Our condolences and prayers are with the victims and their families. Israel stands with India in the fight against terrorism. This statement once again proves how deep the diplomatic and security cooperation between India and Israel is, especially against shared threats like terrorism.

Sri Lanka’s statement on terrorist attack
India’s neighbor Sri Lanka has also reacted to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that we strongly condemn the heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam. We express our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wish the injured to recover early. Sri Lanka stands in strong solidarity with the Government of India and people in the fight against all forms and expressions of terrorism. America strongly condemned terrorist attack
