Smartphone prices have been increasing all over the world for some time. In the last quarter of 2025, the average price of smartphones sold worldwide crossed $400 for the first time. If we convert 400 dollars into Indian rupees then the price is approximately Rs 37,000. This means that now the average price of every phone sold worldwide is Rs 37,000. At one time this was considered a premium price for the phone.

Despite being expensive, people are buying phones in large quantities.

According to the report of Counter Point Research, global smartphone revenue touched $135 billion between October-December, 2025. This is the highest revenue in a quarter and it has increased by 7 percent on an annual basis. During the same period, smartphone shipments have also increased by 4 percent. This shows that people are buying new phones in large quantities and are also spending huge amounts of money on them. Now people are buying more premium phones than before. Due to easy payment options and exchange offers, it has now become easier for people to buy phones.

Apple benefits the most

Apple has benefited the most from this changing trend and has come out ahead in terms of revenue. Due to the tremendous demand for iPhone 17 series, the company’s revenue has increased by 11 percent compared to last year. iPhone 17 series is being sold well in China, North America and Latin America. There is a lot of demand for the most expensive iPhone 17 Pro Max in this series, which is filling Apple’s pockets. Samsung is in second place in this matter and its volume has increased by 17 percent on annual basis. Samsung’s Galaxy A series smartphones are in huge demand in Latin America, South East Asia, Middle East, Africa and parts of Europe.

Samsung started ultra-thin smartphones by launching Galaxy S25 Edge. After this, companies like Techno and Apple have also launched their thin phones. Due to this, Samsung has canceled the plan to launch the next generation model S26 Edge of this phone.

Samsung will discontinue Edge lineup

According to Korean media outlet Newspim, Samsung will not launch the S26 Edge next year. This decision has been taken in view of the low sales of S25 Edge. The company has also given this message to its employees that the Edge line is being discontinued. The company will stop its production once the existing stock is sold. Looking at this experience, there seems to be no possibility of Samsung launching an ultra-slim phone in the near future.

Sales figures not satisfactory

According to reports, only 1.31 million units of S25 Edge have been sold till August this year. In comparison, S25, S25 Plus and S25 Ultra have sold 8.28 million, 5.05 million and 12.18 million units respectively. However, one thing to keep in mind is that the S25, S25 Plus and S25 Ultra were launched in January, while the Edge model was launched in May.

This model will be launched in place of S26 Edge

Earlier there were reports that Samsung will launch Edge model in place of S26 Plus next year, but looking at the current situation, S26 Plus’ place in the lineup has been confirmed. Next year, the company will launch Galaxy S26 Pro, S26 Plus and S26 Ultra models in its flagship series. S26 Pro will be launched in place of the base model of the lineup.
