Amidst the increasing tension in West Asia, the eyes of the world have once again turned to the Strait of Hormuz. The Khatam al-Anbiya headquarters, which is responsible for Iran’s war operations, has announced that the Strait of Hormuz is being “closed” to ships. However, America has rejected this claim and said that ship movement is continuing in the waterway and the situation is being constantly monitored.

Khatam Al-Anbiya Headquarters has cited the alleged violation of the terms of the ceasefire agreement with America as the reason behind its announcement. Along with this, continuous ceasefire violations by Israel in Southern Lebanon, displacement of civilians and military action have also been cited as the basis for this decision.

Amidst these claims and counter-claims, news of relief for India has emerged. Three large Indian flagged crude oil tankers have safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz and headed towards India. More than 8.6 lakh tonnes of crude oil is loaded in these ships, which is considered very important for the energy security of the country.

Giving information on Saturday, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that the three Indian flag tankers named ‘Desh Vaibhav’, ‘Desh Vibhor’ and ‘Sanmar Herald’ have safely crossed the strait with 94 Indian crew members and are now heading towards India.

“Three Indian flagged crude oil tankers… ‘Desh Vaibhav’, ‘Desh Vibhor’ and ‘Sanmar Herald’ carrying over 8.6 lakh tonnes of cargo with 94 Indian crew members have successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz today and are now headed towards India,” Sonowal wrote on Twitter.

According to the information, ‘Desh Vaibhav’ is likely to reach Vadinar port in Gujarat on June 24. ‘Desh Vibhor’ coin can reach the port on the same day. Whereas ‘Sanmar Herald’ is expected to reach Paradip port of Odisha by July 1.

At a time when there is uncertainty regarding the Strait of Hormuz between the claims of Iran and America, the safe crossing of this strategic sea route by three oil tankers of India is considered to be a news of great relief and confidence for the country.

Ever since the war between Iran and the US started, there has been a huge increase in the prices of crude oil. The effect of which has been seen in India also. Meanwhile, India’s Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal recently participated in ABP News’ India at 2047 Conclave. During this, he talked about the number of ships stuck in the Strait of Hormuz as well as the rising prices of petrol and diesel.

How much did India suffer from the war?
During this conclave, when Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was asked how much loss India suffered due to the war between Iran and US, then in response to this question he said, ‘You already know about the geopolitical situation, being an experienced Indian, you also have this data. I don’t want to cite any figures that have no relation with reality. Being the largest transporter in the country, our basic work is to transport goods from one place to another.

Further taking his point forward, he said, ‘People can say anything about the figures, but the reality is that very soon our ships will be able to bring 13 numbers of essentials to India, which will bring essential energy, LPG and cargo.’

Not only this, he also told that he is also ensuring the safety of his Chief Harriers (main carriers) and other Indians. He told that about 30500 Chief Harriers are stranded in this situation, efforts are being made continuously to bring them back.

Toll paid to bring the ship?
Recently there were reports that India had to pay a toll of about 2 million dollars to remove its ships from the Strait of Hormuz. In response to this question, the minister said – ‘No, it is not so, we have not given anything to anyone, this is a wrong report. No one paid any money in our Indian flagship.

How many ships were there before the war?
During this time, Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also told that before the war between Iran and US started, about 136 ships used to leave the Strait of Hormuz every day. So, after the start of the war, sometimes it happens that not even a single ship is able to leave in a day.

What did the minister say on petrol, diesel and gas?
During this conclave, Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also talked about the prices of petrol and diesel. On the price rise, he said, ‘This global crisis is not just for us but for the world, whatever step we have taken according to the situation, it has been taken only for the welfare of the public. We have to move forward understanding the situation of the world. Whatever we are making available to the public. We have taken steps for the public. We are trying hard to get our ships out, the situation is like this, this is a problem of the whole world, ships from different places of the world are stuck, we are not alone.

When the minister was asked about the increase in power of petrol and diesel in the coming time, he gave a vague answer. He said that this situation is such that everyone has to understand. However, he has not clarified whether the prices will increase further in the coming time or not.
