Union Cabinet Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited Jorhat on Wednesday (1 April 2026) to campaign in favor of BJP candidate Hitendra Nath Goswami. Goswami is contesting from Jorhat assembly constituency. This visit is being considered very important amid the election atmosphere. While talking to the media, Sonowal expressed full confidence about BJP’s victory. He said that the people of Jorhat have already made up their mind and this time they will give victory to Goswami with a huge majority.

He said, ‘It is clear that the public has decided that only Hitendra Nath Goswami will win.’ Taking aim at the opposition, he termed Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi as not a factor and said that Congress will not be able to win this time. Sonowal praised Goswami’s leadership abilities and described him as a leader connected to the public. He said, ‘He is a very good leader. His love and dedication towards the people of Jorhat will definitely bring him victory.

He also said that Goswami has been elected several times, which shows that the public trusts his work and commitment. Sonowal said, ‘He works from the heart and has never done anything that would hurt people’s sentiments. The public has given him a place in their hearts. During the election campaign, Sonowal also honored Goswami by presenting him a traditional Assamese Gamosa, which shows his cultural connect with the people. He said that the positive atmosphere seen among the public is natural and the result of people’s affection.

He expressed confidence that this enthusiasm and support of the public will ensure that Hitendra Nath Goswami wins with a record number of votes. BJP has intensified its election campaign in Upper Assam and senior leaders are continuously visiting important areas. This visit of Sonowal is being considered a part of the party’s strategy, the aim of which is to further strengthen the support among the public.
