The launch of satellite internet service in India has been awaited for a long time. Many companies including Elon Musk’s Starlink and Jio have applied to the government for this and have also got provisional spectrum, but the wait for the launch is getting longer. Now Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia himself has told why there is a delay in the launch of this service. Let us know what reasons he has given behind this.

Due to these reasons the service has not been launched yet

According to media reports, Scindia said that this service cannot be rolled out until Starlink and other companies fulfill the conditions set by the security agencies. He said that OneWeb, Starlink and Reliance Jio will have to take security clearance as well as ensure that users’ data remains in India. The government has allotted provisional spectrum to these companies and these companies are working closely with security agencies. This process is still going on. He also said that the Department of Telecommunications and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) are working together to finalize the spectrum pricing.

There is no consensus on pricing

It is being said in the reports that there is no consensus between the Department of Telecommunications and TRAI regarding the pricing of spectrum. The Department of Telecommunications had given several suggestions, including increasing the annual spectrum fee from 4 percent to 5 percent and removing the fee of Rs 500 on every connection in urban areas, which TRAI has rejected. Now the Department of Telecommunications will present its views before the Digital Communication Commission (DCC), after hearing which the DCC will decide what next step should be taken for the pricing of spectrum. After the process is completed from here, it will be sent to the Union Cabinet for approval.

Satellite Technology: Satellites moving in space appear millions of kilometers away, yet we are able to control them, send commands, take data and change their orbit. All this is possible due to the systematic combination of signal, antenna and ground-based control center. Let us understand in simple language how this entire process works.

Ground Station and Mission Control

Each satellite has one or more ground stations, centers with large antennas that send and receive radio signals to and from the satellite. Mission control i.e. control room decides which commands to send, when to give psychological commands to the satellite and the received telemetry data is monitored. The ground station always keeps track of the satellite and gives it necessary commands. This process is known as Telemetry, Tracking & Command (TT&C).

How does the signal come and go

When the control center sends a command, it comes out from the ground antenna in the form of radio waves, this is called uplink. The satellite receives that signal and reads it through its on-board computer and implements the command. Whereas the data sent by satellite such as images, system health or results of experiments, the signal coming to the ground is called downlink. Both these signals are in different frequency bands (like S-band, X-band, Ka-band) to reduce interference and increase data speed.

Ledger and real-time connection

Some modern missions also use laser communications instead of radio. Laser beams provide very high speed and low interference links but require precise pointing and clear weather.

The biggest challenge of signal is distance. Signals take time even at the speed of light. For example, signals to satellites near low-Earth orbit (LEO) take milliseconds to reach, while signals to geostationary-orbit (GEO) — about 36,000 km from Earth — take about 120 milliseconds one way (double the round-trip). Relative motion between the satellite and the ground station in space causes Doppler shifts, so the ground station constantly adjusts the frequency to accurately capture the signal.

antenna and pointing

Large dish antennas or phased-arrays of ground stations are pointed precisely in the direction of the satellite. Satellites also have high-gain antennas that target small areas of the ground. Precise pointing ensures that the signal remains strong and clear.

Data security and reliability

Encryption and authentication are required on the command and telemeter so that no unauthorized party can control the satellite. Also, error-correction coding is used so that despite noise and interference, the data is delivered clean.

Many satellites are now autonomous in some cases, that is, they take small decisions on their own (such as power-management or antenna-re-alignment) because quick commands from the ground are not always available. In addition, mission-control has redundant ground stations and automated scripts to ensure the satellite remains safe in the event of an emergency.

Normal Vs Satellite Internet: In today’s digital age, Internet has become an important part of everyone’s life. Be it work, study or entertainment, it is important to have internet speed and a reliable connection. But there are many types of internet, the most prominent of which are normal (broadband/fibre) and satellite internet. Let us know what is the difference between them and which one is faster.

What is normal internet?

Normal Internet mainly includes DSL, cable, fiber optic and mobile data. It usually provides connection through underground cables or towers. Fiber broadband nowadays can provide speeds ranging from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps. Latency is low in normal internet which is good for gaming and video calls. The connection in cable and fiber remains stable most of the time and is less affected by rain or weather. Normal Internet is most used in cities and towns and is suitable for home and office connections.

What is satellite internet?

Through satellite internet, data reaches your device directly via satellite, without the need for terrestrial cables. It is useful in areas where cable or fiber cannot reach. In recent times, companies like Starlink and OneWeb provide speeds ranging from 50 Mbps to 250 Mbps. Latency in satellite internet is higher than normal internet because data has to be sent to the satellite and back. Connection may be affected by weather such as heavy rain or storm. Satellite internet is a good option to provide internet in rural or remote areas but it can be a bit expensive and slower in latency compared to normal internet in cities.

Who is faster?

In terms of speed, normal internet (fibre) is faster and more reliable than satellite internet. Fiber has low latency and is a better choice for video calls, online gaming and high-resolution streaming. Satellite internet is beneficial when you do not have the option of normal broadband. Although the speed of satellite internet has improved after the advent of new technology, the effect of latency and weather still remains a challenge.

The list of companies providing internet service in the country may soon be included in Billionaire Elon Musk’s starlink. This company has got the final regulatory approval to provide satellite internet service. Earlier, Onweeb of Reliance Jio and Eultsat has also got the green signal for the launch of the service.

Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (In-Space) has given this approval to Starlink. A one of reates Report In-Space has been quoted as saying that Starlink license is valid for five years. Last month, the company got a license from the Telecom Ministry. Starlink will now need to get spectrum from the central government, build infrastructure and show through testing and trial that the company is completing the rules related to security. For the last three years, Starlink was waiting for a license to start its satellite internet service in the country.

There was a dispute between Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio and Starlink for several months how to have a spectrum allocation for satellite internet service in the country. However, the government favored Starlink in this case that the satellite spectrum should be allocated instead of oxes. Starlinks lobbied for not auctioning the satellite spectrum. This company had said that licenses should be given according to the international trend for this. Starlinks argued that this is a natural resource that companies associated with communication should share.

Telecom companies like Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio had said that if the price of satellite spectrum is kept low then it will harm their business. This can benefit companies providing satellite internet service like Starlink. The organization Cellular Operators Association of Telecom companies, in a letter to the Telecom Ministry, also demanded a review of the proposal related to pricing of satellite spectrum. The letter said that satellite internet service providers for the government’s telecom companies about 21 percent more for spectrum compared to the price.

Starlink Gen1: Starlink will play a revolutionary role in promoting digital connectivity in India. Through this, high -speed satellite will be transported to the internet in the remote remote areas of India. For this, Starlink Satellite Communications Private Limited (SSCPL) has been approved by the Indian National Space Promotion and Authority Center.

Starlink Gen-1 Low Earth Orbit (Leo) is officially authorized to provide satellite communication service using satellite group. This agreement is for 5 years. However, the operation of Starlink’s services will be subject to all regulatory approvers, approval and licenses received from government departments.

What is Starlink Jane-1?
Starlink Gane-1 is a global group, including 4,408 satellites, revolving around the Earth at a height of 540 to 570 km. The group is designed to provide a strong throwput of about 600 GBPS in India. It promises to bring revolutionary changes in internet access to urban users seeking high speed connectivity along with rural communities.

Villagers living in remote areas are of great advantage
Experts believe that the arrival of Starlinks can lead to a big change in connectivity for millions of Indians, especially in areas where the infrastructure of the Internet is limited or not present. This service is designed to provide uninterrupted broadband access to homes, businesses, schools and emergency services, which will create new opportunities for education, commerce and innovation.

Starlink is currently serving in Sri Lanka
A spokesperson of the IN-Space stressed that all the starlink operations in India would be strictly monitored to ensure compliance with national security and regulatory requirements. This step is also in line with global trends, as satellite internet groups are becoming an important component of the world’s digital ecosystem. Starlink has recently started operating satellites to provide broadband services in Sri Lanka.

In India, Elon Musk’s company Starlink has got a license to start satellite internet service and now preparations for its commercial launch have also started. Starlink claims that it will deliver high-speed internet to far-flung areas of the country, that too without any mobile tower or fiber line. According to a recent report, Starlink India is preparing to offer 10 USD, ie a basic internet plan with a monthly price of about Rs 850, but before this plan, users may have to pay a hefty amount at a time, which will be taken for the internet kit of Starlink, which will include satellite dishes, routers, cables and other necessary equipment.

What is the cost of a starlink connection?

The internet connection given by Starlink may come through the satellite, but the work of transporting it to the device is of many other tools and equipment and the real price is of them. The way a fiber is a router for broadband connection and for this, users have to pay some installation fees. Similarly, an installation kit is also required for Starlink Satellite Internet Service.

If Starlink live for other countries Website If you look at the details present, then this internet kit is somewhat DIY i.e. ‘Do It EURSELF’ kit, which any user can install themselves. For this you do not need any special engineer or technician. The kit consists of a satellite dish, a power adapter, a starlink router, a 15 -meter starlink cable and an AC cable. All these things work together to create a Wi-Fi network in your home by taking an internet signal from the satellite.

This service of Starlink in India can be launched especially for areas where services like 5G, 4G or fiber broadband have not yet reached. In such remote and rural areas where mobile network is also weak, the setup of Starlink can be revealed as an option. However, its initial price can be slightly heavy for many users. Talking about foreign markets, this kit in the US comes to $ 349, which sits around Rs 30,000 in India by the current exchange rate. In some countries, this figure goes up to Rs 36,000 in Indian currency.

The company has not yet released plans for India. However, a report that came some time ago claimed that the price of basic service could be kept at $ 10 per month to woo users initially. However, the installation charge may have to be paid separately at that time. That is, a lump sum investment is necessary to use starlink for the first time, only then the monthly plan will be implemented.

After getting a license from DOT, Starlink will now apply for a trial spectrum in India and after that the process of installing the user terminal will begin. The company’s plan is to focus on the rural area in the next few months and roll out its service, so that the connectivity of the Internet in those areas can be increased where any network has not yet access.
<!--
