An important warning has been given by the bank to the users of YONO app. The bank has said that cyber fraudsters are targeting customers in new ways and even small carelessness can lead to emptying of the account.

Fraud in the name of YONO
Actually, these days scammers are trying to make people victims of fraud by creating fake pages in the name of YONO SBI on social media. These scammers run false sponsored ads that read ‘Forgot your username or password?’ Click on this link and recover immediately. SBI has given a clear warning regarding this that do not click on any such link. Because these are completely fake and can steal your banking information.

If any user clicks on such a link and enters his details, he can immediately become a victim of fraud. In such a situation, it has been advised by the bank to always use YONO SBI app or official website only and do not give any personal details on any unknown link, message or call. Especially do not share OTP or password at all.

You can call as a bank officer
Apart from this, according to SBI, fraudsters can contact you through call, SMS or email by posing as bank officials. They try to obtain sensitive information from users by luring them with KYC updates, account blocking or reward points. The bank has made it clear that no officer ever asks for OTP, PIN, password or card details through phone or message. If someone does this then he is definitely a fraud. Especially YONO SBI users need to be alert, because this app is directly linked to the bank account.

Bank calls from this number
At the same time, the bank has also told that there is a need to be cautious about phone calls coming in the name of the bank. Generally SBI official calls come from numbers starting from 1600. Apart from this, if you receive a call from any other number, treat it as suspicious and do not share any details. If you have become a victim of fraud in any way, then without delay call the National Cyber ​​Crime Helpline 1930 and lodge a complaint. Apart from this, you can also file online complaint on cybercrime.gov.in.

Scammers are sending APK files, which is not good from security point of view. The bank advised its customers to install the app only from the official app stores – Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

Sharing a post on social media platform X, SBI said, “Fraudsters are sending fake ‘Bank Letters’ and ‘KYC Alerts’ along with harmful APK links. Tapping on it once can put your phone in danger and your money can be lost. Download apps only from Play Store or App Store.” The post further read, “Never install suspicious APKs. To report cyber fraud, call 1930.

How to identify fake app?

Check the name of the developer before downloading any app. Scammers often use names that resemble real companies. This needs to be looked at carefully.
Original apps usually have millions of downloads. The number of installs of fake apps is often low.
Don’t just look at stars or ratings, read reviews too. If almost all the reviews are the same or you see mistakes in them, then be careful.
Before installing an app, see what access it is asking from you. For example, if it asks for access to your contact list or gallery, then it can be dangerous.
