Assam Election 2026: Congress leader Pawan Khera has now reached the Supreme Court after his anticipatory bail was rejected by the Gauhati High Court. The whole matter started after he made controversial remarks on the wife of the Chief Minister of Assam. Also, the Assam High Court has considered this entire incident not as defamation but as a conspiracy. It has also been said that custodial interrogation should be done. After this order of the High Court, Pawan Kheda has reached the Supreme Court. In such a situation, the question is arising that if the Supreme Court also keeps the High Court’s decision permanent, then Pawan Kheda’s troubles may increase. Will be able to arrest them.

The matter came into controversy when Congress leader Pawan Kheda, in a press conference during the Assam election campaign, accused his wife of holding passports of three countries. On this, a case of forgery and defamation has been registered against him in Assam. The sword of arrest is hanging since his petition was rejected by the Gauhat High Court. Earlier, Telangana High Court had given him transit bail, which was stayed by the Supreme Court.

Congress leader Kheda had accused Sarma’s wife Riniki Bhuiyan Surma of allegedly having several foreign passports of UAE, Antigua and Barbuda-Egypt. Apart from this, it was also said by Kheda that he had two different properties in Dubai. Apart from this, it was alleged that there was assets worth Rs 52 thousand crore in the name of a firm named Riniki Bhuiyan Sarma Asset Collective LLC, registered in the state of Wyoming in the United States. On this, Assam CM Sarma and his wife have filed a case against him.

Donald Trump has been upset by the decision of the US Supreme Court regarding tariffs and he has again dropped the tariff bomb on the whole world. Trump had earlier announced the imposition of an additional 10 percent reciprocal tariff, but within just 24 hours he increased it to 15 percent. Donald Trump said through a post on the social media platform Truth Social that America is going to increase the 10 percent tariff imposed on countries around the world to 15 percent with immediate effect. Reiterating his old claim, he said that many countries have been taking advantage of America for decades and this decision related to tariff is a response to that. It also said that the tariff hike is completely within the ambit of the law and it has been investigated.

Earlier, Trump had imposed a tariff of 10 percent after the decision of the Supreme Court, but the very next day on Saturday, he increased the tariff to 15 percent. Regarding this, Indian-American lawyer Neel Katyal has raised many questions on the global tariff.

‘They should adopt the American way’
He further said that if the President wants to impose global tariffs on a large scale, then he should adopt the American way and go to Congress (US Parliament). Our Constitution also says that if Trump’s ideas regarding tariffs are so good then Congress should not have any problem in accepting them.

He is an Indian-American lawyer. His arguments in the US Supreme Court had defeated Trump in the matter of tariffs. He told the court that the US Parliament has the power to regulate business, but President Trump cannot use this power arbitrarily. Former US Acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal has emerged as the face of a historic Supreme Court decision striking down Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs. He called Trump’s use of the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to levy tariffs on every trading partner an unjust and unconstitutional tax.

After the Supreme Court’s decision, Katyal said, “Today the Supreme Court of America stood its ground for the rule of law and for the entire America. The message was simple that the President is powerful, but our Constitution is even more powerful than that. In America, only Congress can tax the American people.”

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of small businessmen and was supported by the Liberty Justice Center. Trump described the trade deficit and fentanyl overdose deaths as a national emergency, calling the tariffs necessary for national security and economic benefit. Katyal described this decision as an important achievement from the constitutional point of view. He said, “The US Supreme Court has fulfilled every demand of ours in our legal case. Everything has been fulfilled.”

He further said, “This case has always been about the presidency, not any one president. I am extremely pleased to see that our Supreme Court, which has been the cornerstone of our government for the last 250 years, is protecting our most fundamental values.”

Who is Neel Katyal?
Born in Chicago to Indian immigrant parents (a doctor and an engineer), Katyal has made his career advocating for important constitutional cases. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College and Yale Law School and has clerked for US Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer.

After being appointed Acting Solicitor General by President Barack Obama in 2010, Katyal represented the federal government before the US Supreme Court and appellate courts. He has argued more than 50 cases before the Supreme Court, which is a record for minority lawyers.
