The government has declared summer holidays ahead of schedule and issued an order to close all schools from April 27, 2026. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the health, safety of children and providing relief from the increasing heat. There is intense heat and heat like conditions in many areas of the state, due to which normal life is also being affected.

School holidays apply from 27th April

Following the instructions of the state government, all government, aided and private schools in Odisha will be closed from April 27. On the recommendation of the Education Department, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved this proposal. After this, instructions have been given to the concerned departments to immediately implement the order. Lakhs of students and parents studying in schools are expected to get relief from this.

Decision taken due to heat and heat wave

Temperatures are continuously being recorded above 40 degrees Celsius in many parts of the state. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature in some areas may reach 45 degrees in the coming days. In view of such situation, it was decided to close the schools prematurely. The administration believes that it is very important to protect small children from the scorching heat. The government has made it clear that the pre-scheduled examinations will be conducted as per their schedule. Apart from this, important administrative work, office procedures and other government work will continue as before.

Every year there were holidays in May.

Usually, summer holidays in the state used to start after the first week of May, but this time due to extreme heat in April itself, the holidays have been declared earlier. The sudden heat in the weather forced the government to take this decision. Keeping in mind the safety of children, the state government is also considering temporarily closing Anganwadi centres. A plan is being made to deliver ration and nutritional materials to the needy children from door to door. Instructions have also been given to the officials to make preparations in this regard.

UP School Holidays 2026: There is confusion among students and teachers regarding school holidays on the occasion of Holi 2026 in Uttar Pradesh. Holidays have been declared on March 2 and 4, but the situation is still unclear whether schools will open or remain closed on March 3. According to the annual calendar of the board, schools are to open on March 3, but amid continuous holidays, questions are being raised on the decision to open schools on this day.

There will be a weekly holiday in board primary and secondary schools in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, March 1. Monday, March 2 has been declared a holiday due to Holika Dahan. Apart from this, there is Holi holiday on Wednesday 4th March. However, according to the annual calendar of the Education Board, schools will remain open on Tuesday, March 3. This day remains confusing for everyone.

In this hope, teacher organizations are continuously demanding that schools remain closed on this day also. Teacher organizations have expressed displeasure over the decision to reopen schools on March 3.

Uttar Pradesh BTC Teacher Union has sent a letter to the Elementary Education Department. The union says that the studies are completed by the end of February. After that many teachers return to their home districts. So coming back just for a day is not practical. Apart from this, Holi celebrations continue in many districts on March 3, due to which attendance in schools is likely to be low.

Confusion about the date of Holika Dahan

This year there is confusion among people about the date and auspicious time of Holika Dahan. There are different views about the exact time due to lunar eclipse and Bhadra time. According to the Panchang, due to the conditions of Purnima and Bhadra, the timing of Holika Dahan does not match with the English date. This has also created confusion about holidays.
