Government School Report: Government schools used to be the first choice of millions of families, but now the picture is changing rapidly. The new report of the Ministry of Education shows that a large number of parents are getting their children admitted in private schools instead of government schools. In the last two years, the names of lakhs of children were removed from government schools, while the number of students in private schools has continuously increased. This change is not limited to just one state, but has been seen in many big states of the country. So let us know in which states of the country the condition of government schools is the worst.

What is the new report of the Education Ministry?

Unified District Information System for Education Plus is the official digital database of the Ministry of Education. Through this, data related to admission of students, number of teachers, number of schools and basic facilities is collected in schools across the country. According to the report, in the year 2025-26, a total of 24.72 crore students were registered in schools from primary to secondary level across the country. At the same time, in 2023-24 this number was around 24.80 crores. There was not much difference in the total admissions, but a big change was seen in the figures of government and private schools.

Shortage of 86 lakh students in government schools

According to the report, 12.75 crore students were studying in government schools in 2023-24. In the year 2025-26 this number decreased to 11.89 crores. A decrease of about 86 lakh students was recorded in two years. With this, the number of students in private schools increased from 9 crore to 9.89 crore. About 88 lakh new students took admission in private schools.

In which states of the country is the condition of government schools the worst?

1. Most students study in government schools in Bihar, but here too a decline was recorded in admissions. There were 1.71 crore students in the year 2023-24, which reduced to 1.66 crore in 2025-26.

2. The number of students in government schools in Uttar Pradesh decreased from 1.48 crore to 1.41 crore. There was a reduction of 7.07 lakh students in two years.

3. The number of students in Madhya Pradesh decreased from 81.28 lakh to 79.70 lakh.

4. Admission in government schools in Rajasthan decreased from 77.82 lakh to 74.49 lakh. There was a reduction of about 3.32 lakh students here.

Also read – Salary Word Origin: Sometimes ‘salt’ was found in salary instead of money! Know how your salary got the name ‘Salary’?

5. There was a decline in admission in government schools in Maharashtra also. The number of students here decreased from 51.08 lakh to about 49.79 lakh.

6. West Bengal was the state where admissions in government schools increased. The number of students here increased from 1.49 crore to 1.54 crore. Here about 4.61 lakh new students joined government schools.

What was the change in the number of government and private schools?

In the year 2025-26, the number of government schools across the country decreased to 10,05,245, whereas in 2023-24 it was 10,13,322. The number of private schools has increased. In the year 2023-24, there were about 3.39 lakh private schools in the country, which increased to more than 3.40 lakh in 2025-26. The number of private schools has increased in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan, while there has been a slight decline in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and West Bengal.

Country With Best Education System: In today’s time, every parent wants to give the best education to their children. For this they are also ready to pay huge fees of private schools. But do you know that there are some countries in the world that send their children to government schools only? Yes, the government education system of these countries is so strong that about 98 percent of the students there study in government schools only. Let us know about these countries.

The government education system of this country is the best

Finland, the beautiful country of Europe, is known all over the world for its education system. The most special thing here is that everything from primary to higher education is completely free. About 98 percent of the children here study in government schools. Here children are not given any homework nor are there any examinations. Here children are taught through games, due to which their mental development happens faster.

Government schools of this country are number-1

Apart from Finland, government schools are also very good in countries like Japan and Canada. The level of education in Japan is so high that the facilities of government schools there are better than even big private schools. In Japan, children are not only given bookish knowledge, but they are also taught discipline, cleanliness and moral values. In Canada also the government spends a lot on education. In the government schools there, every child gets new technology and excellent environment.

How can India’s system be made the best?

The world learns from these countries that if the government makes proper arrangements, then government schools can also be made world class. When all the children of the country get equal and excellent education, then discrimination ends in the society. If government education is strengthened everywhere like in these countries, then no parent will have to take a loan for the future of their child.

All the countries in the world give special importance to education because everyone knows that only an educated citizen builds a country and creates the future of the country. All over the world, education is considered the foundation of developed countries and that is why different nations create a huge network of schools and colleges at their own level. However, an interesting question always remains in discussion, after all, which country has the highest number of schools and colleges in the world? And where does India rank in this list?

India’s population and education needs

India comes seventh in the world and number 1 in the world in terms of population. According to the survey, 46.9% of the total population of India is below 25 years of age, which makes India a young country. With such a large population receiving education, is the network or number of educational institutions in our country big enough to provide education to such a huge population?

Highest educational institute in India

You will be proud to know that India has the largest number of educational institutions (schools, colleges, universities) in the world. After India comes the United States and China. It is recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records that the number of secondary schools in India is the highest in the whole world, where 139,539 educational institutions are available for children or students from class 9th to 12th, which shows that India is completely aware of education.

Total number of schools in India

There are approximately 15 lakh schools in India, which include schools at all levels of primary, upper primary, secondary and higher secondary, which are providing education to the vast population of India.

Higher education institutions of India

India also has a large number of institutions of higher education (colleges and universities) that are responsible for the future of India’s students, among which IITs, IIMs, NITs and IISC Bengaluru are elite and known throughout the world for their quality of education. There are more than 12,700 higher education institutions in the country, including more than 4,000 recognized universities. In some sources this number is also stated to be 5,000 to 8,000 universities.

America’s educational institutions

The number of higher educational institutions in the United States is approximately 4000, but according to the 2023 24 report, the number of higher educational institutions in America, which include higher degrees like Bachelor’s Degree and sometimes Master’s and Doctorate (PhD), is approximately 5,819. America is the first choice of every student in the world for higher education. There are world famous educational institutions here, which include world famous universities like Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Princeton, Yale, Columbia.

China’s higher educational institutions

China ranks third in the world in the number of higher educational institutions. According to China’s Ministry of Education, there are 3,117 universities, colleges and other institutions of higher education, including 1,308 universities and colleges and 1,560 vocational and technical colleges, including major educational institutions such as Tsinghua University and Peking University.

Now in private schools, fees will not be increased due to will. The Delhi government is going to implement a new rule, under which a three -level monitoring system will be made. Before increasing the fees, schools will have to take approval at many levels and the opinion of parents will also be given importance in this.

Under this system, a 10 -member fee regulation committee will be formed first at the school level. This committee will include school management as well as 5 parents. The presence of scheduled castes and women representatives in the committee will be necessary.
Mexico bans junk food: The government’s ban on junk food in Mexico schools has come into effect from Saturday (March 29). Officials say that this step has been taken to deal with the increasing obesity and serious diabetes problems in the country.

This new rule which was first released last year, stops salty and sweet packed foods that have become part of the diet of Mexican children. These include sweet fruit juice, packet chips, artificial boar peels and chili spicy soy-rich peanuts.

Ministry of Education of Mexico said this in its post

The Ministry of Education of Mexico announced that the ban on junk food has now become a law. Posting on X, it wrote, ‘Goodbye, junk food!’ Parents were also encouraged to make healthy food for their children at home and cooperate in this campaign of the government.

Public Health Secretary Mario Delgado said, “One of the main goals of the new Mexican school system is to promote healthy life.” He also informed that parents are fully supporting this rule.

Plan will be implemented in a phased manner

According to the new rule of Mexico, schools will have to gradually remove all the food and drink items that have more salt, sugar, calories or fat and have black warning labels. Mexico implemented this mandatory labeling system in 2020.

Under this junk food ban, which came into force from Monday morning, schools will now have to give healthy options like Bean Tacos instead of junk food and also provide plain drinking water.

Mexican President also released a statement

Mexico President Claudia Shinbam said, “It is better to eat bean taco than the packet of potato chips.” According to UNICEF, Mexico’s children eat the most junk food throughout Latin America. For this reason, obesity has become a serious problem in children. The agency’s report states that 40% of the total calories taken by children come from Chinese -rich drinks and more processed foods.
