An altercation over food took one life in Telangana’s Kamareddy district on Saturday night. A 28-year-old scrap dealer was allegedly attacked with a sickle by his wife. The attack happened when he scolded his wife for not cooking chicken. The deceased has been identified as Kodandam Shivaji, resident of Gosangi Colony.

At around 9 pm on Saturday night, Shivaji had a fight with his wife Lakshmi over not making chicken curry. Their relatives Dadaya and Sharda, who lived nearby, came home and pacified both of them. However, soon after their departure the quarrel broke out again and Shivaji again accused Lakshmi of not cooking as per his wish and other domestic problems.

Attack on Shivaji’s neck with sickle
As the fight escalated, another relative Nandini tried to pacify them, but the fight between husband and wife continued. Kamareddy Inspector B. Narahari said, “During the fight, Lakshmi picked up a sickle kept in the house and attacked Shivaji’s neck. After the attack, Shivaji fell and due to the fall, he suffered a serious head injury. He died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.”

What did the family members tell?
According to the complaint lodged by the victim’s elder brother Suri, Shivaji married Lakshmi about 6 years ago and has two daughters. The couple was living in a rented house of their relative Dadayah for the last six months. Family members told the police that there were frequent fights between Shivaji and Lakshmi over domestic issues and the elders often intervened to resolve the disputes between them.

Based on Suri’s complaint, a case was registered against Lakshmi on Sunday under section 103 (1) (murder) of the BNS. The body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem on Sunday. Police arrested Lakshmi on Monday and she will be produced in the court.
